Canadian Idol – Recap – August 8

Archive

Ben opens the show introducing the top 7 singing “Babe” with Dennis DeYoung. Dennis starts off then Rob gets a line, then Tyler and Tyler is barely audible. When it’s Eva’s turn she really shines …..really. And the crowd let’s her know it.

Next the top 7 sing with Roger with “Give a Little Bit”. Not as special for the Idolhead.

Ben then lets us know 2.6 million votes were cast last night. Recap time and Eva and Steffi were just as great tonight.

Breaktime!

Ben then introduces Roger as he does his medley starting with “Dreamer” then “Logical Song” and somebody, I can’t tell who, really missed a note or two. Roger ended up with “Breakfast in America”. OK, but I don’t think I’d be making that concert.

On the other hand I would be making Dennis’s as I was impressed with this 100 year old rocker. Actually I think he’s closer to my age….101. He still has it. His medley consisted of “Lady”, “Mr. Roboto”, and “Come Sail Away”. Rock on Dennis!

Breaktime!

Back from the break Ben informs us that tonight there will be only a bottom 2. What does this mean? The Idolhead translation: Craig would have been in the bottom 3 and we couldn’t have that now could we. On to the results:

Tyler …..Safe…. figured on that
Eva…..Safe…..and supposed to be…..every week
Ashley…..Safe and where did the hair go?
Steffi……Bottom 3 ….Sometimes I hate being right I just hope I’m not all the way right tonight.
Craig, Rob and Hanging by a thread Chad are bunched together and it’s…..
Rob in the bottom 3? Well I guess he was more forgettable than I thought.

It’s now that time for Ben to ask some more time consuming, yet irrelevant questions, to the judges. If he has to do this I wish he’d at least ask questions that we would want to hear the answers to.

Ben asks Sass since they’ve been on this emotional rollercoaster for nearly two months no matter who is in the bottom do they have the mental toughness to go all the way.

Sass: “I think that the fact that they’re standing there with the grace the both of those people have is a testament to what they are doing. They are doing exactly what they need to be doing. That goes for all these people”. Translation: What kind of question was that? Translation 2: What kind of answer was that?

Bea next asks Farley that he said last week from this point on there would be surprises in the bottom. Was he surprised at the results?

Farley: “I’m 50% surprised and 50% not. And I’m not going to tell you why”. I think he meant who but here’s my translation. See ya later Rob. Great answer by the way Farley.

Ben asked Zack if there was anything he wanted to say to them.

Zack: “First of all as usual it is an honor to thave the two of them carry themselves with such grace. Rob is an incredibly talented person but it’s the exceptionally talented that get a break. Steffi…..you know I don’t even know what to say. It doesn’t matter what happens here now. This is just a stepping stone to this ridiculous career you’re going to have”. Translation: See ya Rob.

Ben then asks the last question of importance to Jake. Since the Idols have had a full band behind them week to week what do they need to do to succeed unplugged next week? I didn’t think much of this question until I heard Jake’s answer.

Jake: “I think that is important that they realize that when you’re unplugged it’s all about the words and how you emote those words. Pick songs that mean something to you that you really get behind because it’s just going to be you and your voice. Translation: You can run but your voice can’t hide.

Breaktime!

It’s time to send someone packin’.

Ben says “Rob you did not get enough votes last night. I’m sorry you’re going home”. As Gomer Pyle would say; Surprise! Surprise! And as the Idolhead would say; Whew! I was sure the “D” was a goner.

Ben let’s us know that the Idols will be singing acoustical and I’m assuming this means guitar or guitars only. That should be really interesting. Let’s hope they all follow Jake’s advice. Rob goes out on a high note rocking to “Some Kind Of Wonderful”. As usual, better when the pressure is off. He looked like he was having fun. I was.
