The Weekly Pulse: TV's Second Wife

Archive

You ever have this feeling that you know what other people are going to say before they say it? Or you do know what they are going to do before they do it? Do you ever think that you are psychic? Or maybe you just have a great memory like Shawn Spencer (James Roday) on USA NETWORK’S ‘Psych’? I don’t know which one it is..but I think I’m psychic! Seriously! I will tell you more about that later in this column. Stick around!

Now then..it’s time I get this thing more organized. So here is a new feature that is not so new!

Random Thoughts on Random Shows

I’ve been doing this already for the past month or so. But this is where I will talk about all the new shows I got a chance to watch each week. Or just random thoughts on shows I already watch like ‘Big Brother 7’! All of that and more in this section, so lets start it off right.

‘Gene Simmons Family Jewels’

Another new show on A&E and I like this one as well. Gene Simmons is from the rock group, “KISS”, if you didn’t know. He has a hott, Playboy and B-Movie star, wife..err..girlfriend named Shannon Tweed. They have two kids, but they have been “happily” unmarried for 23 years. Gene doesn’t believe in marriage, while Shannon still waits for him to ask her. This show has the same feel as ‘The Osbournes’, except you can understand what Gene is saying. The show is entertaining to watch, because the people in the show are fun to watch.

‘Last Comic Standing’

I really wanted Chris Porter to win this whole thing. He got eliminated before the “final two”. That upsets me, because it seems this show is rigged for Josh Blue to win. And why? He has a disability and it’s a good story. Yes..Josh is funny, but funnier than Ty and Chris..NO! And Josh proved it in his final standup act. It wasn’t that funny. Too much dead space in between jokes. Ty should win this thing, but I’m afraid America (read: NBC) will go with the sympathy vote and give it to Josh. And I was right. Sure..it’s a good story, but Ty is funnier..PERIOD!

‘Big Brother 7: All-Stars’

Danielle was just plan dumb to think that an alliance with Will and Mike was going to work. It seems like the only people that know what is going on in the house is Will and Mike. They play everyone to be in alliance with them. James is just as retarded to trust Danielle. Janelle nominated “floaters” because there are more of them than “Chill Town II”. They have bigger numbers. Makes sense..doesn’t it? Apparently not, but tell me this..didn’t James want to take George out of the house a few weeks ago? He HATED George, but now he’s in an alliance with Danielle and Danielle likes George. Weird. How did I know that Janelle was going to win the “POV” this week? I knew she would, because it’s been happening A LOT lately. I thought it was funny how Danielle got mad at Will and Mike and James for not trying to win. First off..what were you doing Danielle? Are you saying you wanted others to do your dirty work for you? Of course..you’re saying that. Erika gave you the “HOH” to begin with. You did nothing to earn it. Secondly..you lost to Janelle as well. If you said that you would do anything to send Janelle home, then you should had been quicker to buzz in before Janelle. Honestly, if I was in that competition..I would go after the prizes! Those were some sweet prizes. And I LOVED how Will figured things out and tried to get Marcellas out the house. Will and Mike want Janelle, Kaysar, and Howie to stay in this game. Once “BB6” is out, the “floaters” will be after them. Smart move. Too bad it didn’t work. Danielle put up Kaysar, which is not good at all. A good player will be going home this week. Marcellas, Erika, George, and Danielle are just sitting there like dead weight. They aren’t doing anything. Who do I think will go home? Well..I hope it’s James, but I’m afraid it may be Kaysar. Although, that would be a good twist. So I say James is out. And by the count of 5-1..Kaysar is going home! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! Murtz get on the phone with Kaysar and see what the heck happened? What upsets me the most is that Kaysar wasn’t the target to begin with? No one wanted to send him home. It as Janelle. Sure..they would have gone after Kaysar next, but still..he would have had the chance to fight back and save himself. He didn’t even get the chance this time. That really sucks. And now Erika is the “HOH”. I have no clue what will happen. I’m a little to sad to talk anymore..so I will end this here. BOOO!!

Now lets take a look at what else has been going on this past week at IPTV!!

Seinfeld Quote of the Week

“It’s one day..half a day really. You subtract showers and meals..it’s like 20 minutes!”Jerry explaining to Elaine that they are just staying at his parent’s house for one day from Season Three’s “The Pen”

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming…

Columns a.k.a. Just a Little Bit!!!

Mathan Erhardt tries to fix ’30 Days’ and I see his point. That’s probably because we have the same brain. Besides that, he comments on ‘Monk’, ‘Psych’, ‘Lucky Louie’, ‘Entourage’, ‘Deadwood’, ‘Life on Mars’, ‘Rescue Me’, ‘Eureka’, ‘City of Men’, ’30 Days’, ‘Brotherhood’, and ‘Saved’. I watched 5, of the same shows, out of 12 this week. That’s .417, which is great really considering I don’t get HBO or SHOWTIME or SUNDANCE or the BBC. He also wanted you to get some help for your mental problems!

Scott Keith has his third edition of his new “Reality Bytes” column! In it, he chats about who should win ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ next week, what he doesn’t like about ‘Big Brother 7: All-Stars’, and what he does like about ‘Rock Star: Supernova’! All of that and more this week in Scott’s rant on reality TV!

Farah Syed tries to find her balance this week! She learned from the San Diego “Comic-Con” that the people behind ‘Veronica Mars’ and ‘Lost’ are trying to tone down some of the “myth” behind these shows. Farah says they have to balance the complex storylines that take time to digest with stories that are quick and to the point and keep the action moving smoothly! Read all about it now!

Kevin Wong has a short column this week. Why? Well..he went to a wedding last weekend and this weekend..he has some fantasy football drafts to do. And believe me..those are important! I should be preparing for one right now! Kevin does manage to talk about a few shows that he watched this week. Read to find out which ones!

Recaps a.k.a. Fall Knocks on the Door!!!

Trevor MacKay is there again for last Thursday’s episode of ‘Big Brother 7: All-Stars’!

Murtz rushes home to catch last week’s results show of ‘Canadian Idol’. Sadly..his streak is over, though as he missed last week’s performances on ‘Canadian Idol’. But he couldn’t miss Cyndi Lauper last week. However, he is back LIVE and in his seat for this week’s performances, followed by correctly predicting who went home in the results show from this week as well. He’s back on track!

I have the double shot that includes Sunday night at the ‘Big Brother 7: All-Stars’ house, and fun in the sun with the guys and gals on the ‘Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Fresh Meat’!

Kevin Wong is a triple threat! He recaps the newest episodes of ‘Canadian Idol’, ‘Treasure Hunters’, and ‘Rock Star: Supernova’ as usual! And as an extra bonus, the results show of ‘Rock Star’ is thrown in as well!!

Ed Hampton brings you the results for this week’s ‘Canadian Idol’! Another one goes home!

Richard Mauntah watched some ‘Big Brother 7: All-Stars’ on Tuesday night and has the recap for you as usual!

This week we had 3 TV on DVD reviews! One by me!

I got my first taste of what many people consider the “best show on TV” when I reviewed The Wire – The Complete Third Season!

John Cavanagh likes his animated comedy as well as he reviews Beavis & Butt-Head: The Mike Judge Collection – Volume 3!

Kevin Wong takes a look at a recently cancelled show on CBS, when he reviews Threshold – The Complete Series!

Celebrities and a NEW Contest a.k.a. Roxanne and Travis!!

Former ‘Apprentice’, Roxanne Wilson, returns to us to continue her interview series. This week she sits down with Leslie Bourgeois from ‘The Apprentice 5’!

You want to enter another contest?! You want to get a DVD of the first season of ‘Prison Break’?! You do! Okay..then..Travis Leamons is your man. He is running a contest where you can win a copy of Prison Break: Season One! Go now!

The Weekly Pulse Weekly Poll

Last week..I asked the question…”where do you like to get your comedy from the most?” And here are the results:

Traditional Sitcoms – 7
Comedy Reality Show – 0
Documentaries – 0
Stand Up Acts – 1
I don’t watch comedy on TV – 1

This was no contest with sitcoms running away with this vote! Not big surprise there. The quality of sitcoms may have gone downhill as a whole over the years, but if you still want to laugh while watching TV..that’s your best bet. I actually surprised that someone would actually not watch TV to laugh. I guess they only like drama in their life. Oh well.

Now for this week’s question. It is…“are you psychic?”. If you have watched ‘Psych’ on the USA NETWORK, have you become more “psychic” after watching that show, because you have began to notice things that no one else has? Or have you always been psychic, except no one believes you? Or do you want to be psychic, because it looks like fun? Or do you not want to be psychic at all? Let me know by clicking on the link and VOTING! Remember..VOTE OR DIE!

Time to Talk a.k.a. I Think I’m Psychic Now!!!

‘Psych’ premiered on the USA NETWORK a little over a month ago. It stars James Roday as Shawn Spencer. Shawn is a guy who likes to have fun. His father is a cop and he wanted his son to follow in his footsteps. He groomed him to be a great cop. As a result, Shawn developed a great memory. Shawn can notice things that other people don’t. He was too busy having fun to become a cop, though. That changed one day when he calls in a tip to the police about a case. He knows the person who committed a crime..just by looking at that person on TV. The police don’t believe him, though. They think Shawn is the one behind the crime. Why? Because he knows so much about it. That’s the only answer. So to avoid being arrested, Shawn tells the police that he is psychic. And it works as Shawn notices things that help him lead the police on and make him seem to be psychic. It’s a fun show with an original idea.

Ever since I started watching this show, some strange things have been happening. I’ve began to notice things as well. Like Shawn, I notice my surroundings more. I notice people more and learn more about them in their everyday activities. As a result, I believe that I’ve become psychic. I know it sounds crazy and it’s probably not true, but still some freaky stuff has been happening to me lately.

Let me explain more. It all started a few weeks ago. I friend of mine, who I have been talking to regularly, lost her cell phone. Therefore, the only way I could talk to her is on her home phone or if she happens to call me from another cell phone or work phone. I went out of the town for the weekend and I came back on a Sunday night. My first thought was to call her and tell her all about it when I got home. But I didn’t. Something told me not to. I waited a few hours as I had stuff to do. Like unpacking and, of course, recapping the Sunday night ‘Big Brother’ show for this site. Once the show was done and my recap was complete, I decided it was time to call her. The time was like 8:30 at night. It felt like the right time..you know. So I tried to call her on her home phone. Well..there was no answer. She wasn’t home. I hang up my phone and as soon as I do that..I get a message that I have a voicemail. My phone didn’t ring, though. So obviously, someone was trying to call me at the exact same time I was on the phone. I check my message and it’s my friend. She tried to call me. I thought that was weird. I figured she missed my call and was calling me right back from her home phone. However, I could tell that she was driving in her car. So that wasn’t possible. She doesn’t tell me where to call her back, though. So I had to wait until she called again and we figured out that we tried to call each other at the same time from different phones. She was using her mom’s cell phone. Weird..right? Maybe you think it’s just a coincidence.

The next thing to happen was with this same friend. I wrote her an e-mail during the day, while she was at work. Later, I got bored so I called her that night. The first thing I tell is that I wrote her an e-mail. She tells me that she was logging on to check her e-mail at the exact same time. Okay..maybe another coincidence. But what about this? Again..I get bored and I write her an e-mail at night. It’s like 11 at night and I KNOW she won’t get it until the next day. As I write it, I get this feeling. She has a big day coming up the next day and I wish her luck. I also say a few things and say if she gets some free time..to stop by my house and stuff. Remember..she doesn’t have a cell phone, so I can’t call her. She wouldn’t get this until later. Anyways..the next day comes and she comes over for a bit. She does what she has to do and then she gets home at night and checks her e-mail. I check mine later and she wrote me back. She was REALLY freaked out by my e-mail. Why? Well..some of things I said in it..was eactly what she did that day. Like coming to my house among other things. It’s weird. As I wrote her an e-mail, basically saying what she will be doing the next day, and then she goes and does it without knowing about that e-mail!

By this point, we are both a little freaked out. All of this stuff has happened within a week of each other. We have a conversation later in the week and she tells me that as she was growing up she would always have deja vu. Like everything she did in her life, she dreamt about it before it happened. Like meeting people in her dreams before she even knew them in real life and things that happened to her family and stuff. It’s like she dreamed her early life before it happened. That’s weird in itself. I’ve had that happen to me too. I used to always get deja vu. It’s weird, but it’s true. While we are talking, she’s on lunch at work. She is eating some food from a fast food place. Well..I drive and look for something to eat as well. We have this whole conversation about being psychic and deja vu and all of this. And anyways I pull into a fast food place and she tells me not to eat at this place she got her food from. Well..she never told me what she was eating until the moment I pulled into the same place she got her food from. This is just crazy. All of this stuff has been happening. I have to be psychic..right? I mean..I can sense what she is thinking and what she will do before she does it. And vice versa.

Now you are probably saying that maybe I just know this person really well. I mean I talk to her almost every day and we hang out almost every weekend. So when you know someone like that..you are going to know what they are going to do before they do it. Your brains start to become one..right? Fair enough. However, this has happened with other people in my life as well. I was going to see my other friend at work and I had a feeling should would be getting off soon. So I tried to catch her before she left. I pull up and she is in her car..about to leave. Right on time again. I called my mom one night to see if she left an establishment yet. I had a feeling that she was leaving and when I called her..she was leaving at the exact moment, of course. And I’ve noticed that I know what other people at work will be doing before they do it as I’m always one step ahead of them. This has all been happening in the last few weeks. It’s all a little too weird for me.

So am I psychic? Probably not. But could I pass as being psychic? More than likely. I believe I have a great memory like Shawn Spencer on ‘Psych’. I’m more aware of things and I notice things about people. I wouldn’t say I study everyone’s moves, but I’m aware of them and I use that information to my advantage. I think I missed my calling. I could have gone and been on ‘Psych’ as Shawn Spencer. Why didn’t they call me for an audition? Probably because I’m not an actor and I live in Arkansas. But if they went out and wanted to find “real” people like the one on ‘Psych’..well..I would be the first in line.

I may not be able to solve crimes on TV and get paid for doing nothing like Shawn and Gus on ‘Psych’, but that show has taught me a few things. It has taught me to tap into my own “psychic” ability. It was inside me all along. At least the ability to “psyche out” people and make them believe I’m psychic. It has also taught me that TV shows on cable can be fun to watch as well. Who needs network TV all the time?! But most importantly, it has taught me that pretending to be a psychic is so much FUN! And isn’t that what life is supposed to be? FUN!!

That’s all I got this week! Any questions, comments, or suggestions are always welcome, of course! Whether that be telling me that you’re psychic as well or anything else!

Remember..“Life Ain’t Always Beautiful, but It’s a Beautiful Ride!”

And as always…“You Can’t Fight Fate!”. See you next week!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
