TNA: In the Zone for 8/10/06

Greetings! It is I, Dougie, returning to you from the darkest corners of our world… I have been exploring the planet for wrestlers that can rival the great Madagascarian wrestlers, in the hopes of bring you people some small measure of joy… You don’t believe me, do you? Okay, you got me. I am actually returning from having my DVR destroyed in a thunderstorm two weeks ago. I love stormy weather, but damn, it sucks when your equipment goes down.

I miss a couple of weeks, but I come back, and nothing changes. We start off in the back, with Jeremy Borash. Eric Young is camped out, waiting to see Jim Cornette. And when I say “camped out” I mean in a tent. EY is entertaining, but this stuff was kinda lame. He’s going to have Christmas in July for Jim Cornett, though Borash reminds him that it is August. Okay, I stand corrected. That shit was funny.

Rhino comes out next to cut another “Extreme” promo. Wow, it’s really like OI never left! I love this guy in the ring and on the mic. He lays the smack talk on Monte Brown and Joe, who oblige us by coming out and getting physical. My problem with this is the fact that they are probably going to job Rhino to these two, to keep their respective “streaks”. Especially when Monte’s streak is fabricated in the first place. Rhino has recently said and done a lot for this company. He deserves to be the one to end Joe’s (authentic) streak, and he deserves for it to be a clean win. I don’t think this will weaken Joe at all, but it would make Rhino look like a god.

Hey look, a match… wait, no it isn’t. It’s The Paparazzis and Kevin Nash versus Sabin Dutt and Lethal. What is this, if not a match? It’s great comedy. Nash plays this like he’s afraid of these guys, even going so far as to sell for Sonjay Dutt. Sabin takes Devine out with the Cradle Shock, but that isn’t the story here. Nash putting these X-Div guys over is awesome. He has no reason to do this. I doubt Nash needs the money. He looks like he’s having fun. I just hope Sabin doesn’t hurt him at Hard Justice.

Next up is Christopher Daniels versus Homicide. These two provide a great match, showing the range of these two fantastic performers, but it is over way too quick, and of course it ends with Hernandez helping Homi by hitting the Cracka Jack on Daniels. AJ Styles runs out to stop the LAX beat-down on his partner. I would have enjoyed seeing Homicide win clean here. Not that I dislike Daniels (quite the opposite). It’s just that I want to see them build some momentum in these new guys, and that CANNOT happen if you keep going to the old way of doing things.

Abyss comes out to take on Sharkboy. This should be the match of the night, as Sharkboy rolls his eyes back and bites off Abyss’ head! No, not really. It’s not even really a match. It’s a chance for Brother Runt (who has been calling Abyss out via signs for the entire show) to hit an INSANE splash from the top of the set. He goes on to waste Abyss, like a psycho. It’s like the chihuahua that chews up the bulldog. This was awesome. I love this dude, and I hope he goes over at the PPV.

Eric Young finally gets his meeting with Cornette. For Eric to keep his job, he needs to beat Johnny Devine at Hard Justice. If done right, this match could make a hero out of Eric. DON’T FIRE ERIC!!! (It also gives these two great talents something to do at the PPV)

We get to the main event, with Cornette on color commentary. It’s Steiner versus Cage. This match doesn’t even matter. Quad C wins by default (and DQ). He hands Sting the belt after everything is said and done. I totally see a heal turn from Cage at the PPV, helping Jarrett retain the title, setting up Jarrett and Sting in the Loser Leaves Town match that ends Sting’s contract soon. If this doesn’t go down this way, I’ll be really surprised (though I sure don’t wanna see it happen.)

Anyway, for showing once again that is not the size of the dog in the fight, Brother Runt is In The Zone.

See you kiddies next week!

Dougie
