Hello, boys and girls. It’s been a good month or so since I’ve wasted IP’s bandwidth with my bullshit jabber, so I figured I better show my face and give everyone an update on the latest happenings in UFC.

NO UFC 61: BITTER RIVALS AFTERMATH

I didn’t do an aftermath post for two reasons. 1) I thought the show was awful, and I didn’t have much to say about it, other than it was awful. 2) UFC 61 was just days prior to my wife giving birth to our first child, and my life was in chaos.

I think the majority of fans seem to agree that UFC 61 was a huge letdown. Thankfully, for me, I had the birth of my daughter that week to make up for it.

ULTIMATE FIGHT NIGHT VI: TOMORROW NIGHT!

Here’s the card for tomorrow night’s UFN on Spike TV, which airs live at 8pm EST.

  • Diego Sanchez vs. Karo Parisyan
  • Parisyan is 15-3-0. He hasn’t had a loss since 2004, to Georges St. Pierre at UFC 46. Sanchez is 15-0-0. He is undefeated in the Octagon and overall in his MMA career. They both love submissions, and neither has ever been submitted. This has the potential to be a f*cking classic. I say Karo ends Diego’s undefeated streak, via decision.

  • Chris Leben vs. Jorge Santiago
  • Leben haters are still rejoicing over his KO loss to Anderson Silva at UFN 5. The 15-2-0 “Crippler” is no doubt fired up and wanting to shut his critics up. Santiago, while new to UFC, has been around for a while. At 11-5-0, he’s no slouch. It might not look like it on paper, but this is a huge fight for Leben. A loss tomorrow night would be devastating for his future with UFC. If Santiago can avoid Leben’s striking, he will try and take Leben to the ground early and look for a submission. That said, I say Leben in the second, via TKO.

  • Dean Lister vs. Yuki Sasaki
  • I remember Yuki Sasaki from watching bootleg Shooto tapes in the late 90s. He’s a very experienced fighter (20-12-1) who loves submissions. Dean Lister may not have the experience of Sasaki (8-4-0), but he is a deadly grappler who has eight out of eight victories by submission. Both fighters’ records are rather hit-or-miss over the last few years, but Lister has an impressive victory over Alessio Sakara (2:20 in the first) at his UFC 60 debut. This should be an exciting, albeit short, fight for grappling fans. I say Lister in the first, via submission.

  • Josh Koscheck vs. Jonathan Goulet
  • I like Jonathan Goulet. He’s a lot like fellow Triumph team member Georges St. Pierre, and that’s a good thing. The 16-6-0 Canadian is coming off of a decision victory over TUF 2’s Luke Cummo at UFN 5. TUF 1’s Josh Koscheck is a punk, but at 6-1-0, he’s a punk that can fight. Koscheck is also coming off of a UFN 5 victory; over Dave Menne. I think this one could go the distance. Koscheck is a huge 170 with a lot of strength, but Goulet is very quick and has stronger striking skills. I dig Goulet a lot, but I say Koscheck via decision.

    In non-televised action:

  • Joe Riggs vs. Jason Von Flue
  • Jake O’Brien vs. Christophe Midoux
  • Sammy Morgan vs. Forrest Petz
  • Pat Healy vs. Anthony Torres
  • Kalib Starnes vs. Crafton Wallace
  • UFN will air until 10pm EST, with a possible run-over into the top of the hour. Which leads us to…

THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER 4: TOMORROW NIGHT!

Just in case you forgot, The Ultimate Fighter 4 will debut tomorrow night, following Ultimate Fight Night. I’ve been out of the loop for a few weeks, but I believe that Trent Pusey will be handling the TUF 4 recaps, as the lovely Shelly is currently in the middle of moving.

Season 4 will follow 8 middleweight and 8 welterweight UFC veterans as they battle for a six-figure contract and a title shot. Randy Couture and Georges St. Pierre, and Mark DellaGrotte are the trainers.

The Welterweights are: Mikey Burnett, Shonie Carter, Rich Clementi, Jeremy Jackson, Chris Lytle, Matt Serra, Pete Spratt, and Din Thomas.

The Middleweights are: Patrick Cote, Edwin Dewees, Travis Lutter, Charles McCarthy, Gideon Ray, Jorge Rivera, Pete Sell, and Scott Smith.

SHAMROCK TO RETIRE AFTER TUF 4 FINALE

Ken Shamrock, “The World’s Most Dangerous Man,” has announced that he will retire after his upcoming rematch with Tito Ortiz in October. The bout, set to be the main event at The Ultimate Fighter 4 finale, is being done in an attempt to make up to all the fans that cried and bitched about Ortiz vs. Shamrock II at UFC 61. I honestly don’t see the outcome being much different, but at least Ken will finally f*cking retire.

    UFC 62 CARD FINALIZED

Saturday, August 26, 2006 will mark the return of Chuck Liddell, as he will defend his Light Heavyweight title against Renato Sobral. Also announced recently was the co-main event of Griffin vs. Bonnar II. UFC 62 will air live on pay-per-view from Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. The card is as follows.

  • Chuck Liddell vs. Renato “Babalu” Sobral
  • Forrest Griffin vs. Stephan Bonnar
  • Cheick Kongo vs. Christian Wellisch
  • Hermes Franca vs. Jamie Varner
  • Thiago Alves vs. Josh Neer
  • Wes Combs vs. Wilson Gouveia
  • Cory Walmsley vs. David Heath
  • Rob MacDonald vs. Eric Schafer
  • Yushin Okami vs. Alan Belcher
  • UFC 63 SHAPING UP

UFC 63 takes place from the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim, California on Saturday, September 23rd. Matt Hughes will defend his Welterweight title against Georges St. Pierre in the main event, Mike Swick will take on David Loiseau, Gabe “Godzilla” Ruediger will face Melvin Guillard, and returning Lightweight king Jens Pulver is expected to be in action as well.

    I AIN’T DONE YET

On average I get about four to six hours of sleep a day. My wife gets even less. Things are crazy around my house, but I am finally finding the time to get stuff done. Look for my thoughts on UFN 6 in the near future, as well as more UFC updates.
