Canadian Idol – Recap – August 15

Archive

Ben starts off the night introducing Chantal singing with the top 6. The top 6 were no more than back ground vocals….really background. I liked it anyway.

After the song Ben reminds us that the Idols sang from the Masonic Temple and informs us that 3,000,000 votes came in. He then reintroduces the judges. Yeah, I forgot who they were. Then the recap and yes Eva kicked serious ass again in the recap. I have something to say about her in The Final Word.

Breaktime!

Back from the break Ben tells us that Chantal broke into the music scene in 1997 and introduces her singing her first single “All I Can Do” off her new CD “Ghost Stories”. She rocks! Ain’t hard on the eyes either. After she finishes Ben informs us that her CD will be in stores Aug 29th. He then tells us that it was recorded in an intimate place and asks Chantal to tell us about it. She jokingly says it was recorded in her bed room, then goes on to say it was really recorded in a home studio with her husband (What’s she need with one of those?) Ben then thanks her for helping the Idols this week. He then asked her what she thought about last night. She responds that it is very revealing singing unplugged because it shows all of you virtues as well as your flaws.

Breaktime…..Again!

Back from the break the Idols are lined up three on each side of Ben like a firing squad. Ben tells us that the three with the lowest vote totals will stay on stage with him. On the left we have Tyler, Eva, and Craig (the obvious top 3) and on the right Steffi, Chad, and Ashley (the obvious bottom 3) right. Not so fast Idolhead breath.

Ben starts with …..

Craig…….Unsafe! Shocker, Shocker, Shocker! Well not really but …did anyone think he would ever taste the bottom 3?

Eva…..safe and should be from now on. Had she been in the bottom 3……I don’t even want to think about it. Ben has to point her in the right direction. She doesn’t even know where to go. Cute.

Tyler……safe….Again? More about this later.

Steffi….Bottom 3…. What the hell’s new? She’s been in the bottom 3 more than she’s been in the top 10. I think she just broke a record that no one wants to break. Yeah, I’m trippin’ but I expected to.

Ashley and Chad are grouped together and……..

Ashley’s in the bottom 3. Well what do you expect when you out sing every guy on the show. Yeah, you get retribution. That of course means that Hanging Chad is safe yet another week. Let’s see how he gets his cornpone on next week. By the way you could have heard a pin drop when Ashley was named. I don’t think that’s such a very good thing. I expected to hear at least hear some groans.

It’s now time for Ben to “grill” the judges again and he starts with Jake. He asks him, since he (Jake) said in the acoustic setting they would have to show the emotion in the song, was that a problem for these three?

Jake: “I wouldn’t say it was a problem for all of them. In particular I don’t think Craig emoted as well as he could have with that song. I think the other two did a great job.”

Ben bugs Sass now and tells us that those who remain will be going down to Nashville this week and asks Sass what they should be looking for in terms of inspiration down there.

Sass: “Well Ben Nashville is a town full of pros that love and adore music and it can be a really nurturing environment for any musician or singer so I think they will get a lot of great tips.” They might meet Carrie Underwood too. That was me.

Ben moves on to Farley and tells us it’s a really close race and asks Farley what’s it going to take to win. (OH, OH Ben I know that one. They have to be better than anyone else and hope the boppers can figure that out. Yeah, I’m doin’ some dreamin’ there.)

Farley: “I think it’s going to be a matter of focus and song selection as always. It’s going be a matter of believing that whatever your desires are, your expectations have to match them and you have to go out there and do your thing.” (Do your thing? Don’t tell Steffi that.)

Ben turning his attention to Zack reminds him that he had a lot to say last night then asked him what he thought about these results tonight.

Zack: “Well half the people were going to be standing and half the people would be sitting. And one of the people that is standing should be sitting and one of the people sitting should be standing but that’s irrelevant. The fact is I just wanted to say to these guys go down in a ball of flames. Be as big as you can be. Whoever’s still around here like you know, everybody says Carpe Diem, live for today and do this thing. That should be the motto. Go down big and proud.” (I would say going up in flames instead of going down in flames)

Ben then revals the first safe member of the bottom three. And it’s…..Steffi!? Oh Yeah! Knock me over with a feather. She looked as shocked as me. I swear I thought I saw Craig leaning toward the couch. Ooooo. That must have hurt. Craig and Ash are in the bottom two. So that means…….

Breaktime!

Back from the break Ben says “Craig, Canada voted and you’ll be back next week.” Craig was shaking his head yes, yes the whole time like he thought it might be him going now. Then we get a shot of, I can only guess it was Ashe’s family, because I couldn’t see their faces because they were buried so deep in their hands it looked like they were puking.

Then the funeral video. Love that girl. Ben then let’s us know we’ll be back at the Bassett next for Country night. Ye Ha! And the Idols will be in Nashville working with Martina McBride. Now this Country chick can sing. He also let’s us know Martina will be singing next week. Big surprise there. Then Ash sings us out crying….I mean singing “Crying”. She knocks it out again. While singing out she comes to the line “I love you even more…” she faces the remaining five as to tell them that. Then when she reaches the line “Crying over you…” she points to Craig and he blushes. She then smiles as she sing’s the line “Yes I’m gone…” Then we get a look at her sister the bionic woman. Well she’s half metal and half woman. Ashley then motions for the remaining five to join her. Classy girl.
