Hey Daron welcome back bud how are you today?

I’m doing pretty good, and fresh back from my much needed vacation. Sorry about the late notice on that last week. The week before it was so hectic that I actually forgot what week it was and that I was going on vacation until the day before”¦

Glad to hear you had a nice vacation. I almost thought I’d be late this week. I lost my Internet for most of the day today. Cable too. I hate service outages. Either way I am here and on time.

Yeah that pretty much sucks. Turns out we’re running late anyway because of my silly work situation. I didn’t get home from work till after midnight last night and had to go back this morning at 7 am. Sorry everyone for the delay”¦

Good to be here. Let’s start.

Indeed.

i have a question. after reading wolverine origin #5 and finding out that he as a son…has this ever been put into comics before? what i mean is is this a plotline from before that has now got brought back up or is that a complete new thing?

Actually in a way it has been used BUT not exactly like this. Many years ago they went with an angle of Sabretooth as Wolverine’s father. Now of course we would learn that this is a lie.

Also the X-23 angle of Wolverine having a daughter. (although a actually a cloned female version of him) has been used.

Also the fact that Wolverine has an adopted daughter is already used with Amiko.

And people actually needed to ask my why I hate the whole Wolvering “origin” thing??? Yeash!

Blake asked

Who are main Marvel characters with disabilities?

Include Cable, Fury, etc, like we did the other week

of course Blake there are quite a number of them. Depending on the disability:

Blind: Daredevil, Destiny, Milla Donovan, Madame Web, Alicia Masters, Stick.

Deaf: Echo

Albino: La Lunatica, Tombstone

Amnesiac: Agent X, Hammerhead, Sabretooth, Wolverine (almost anyone Weapon X)

Amputees: Ahab, Air-Walker, Box, Cable, Coldblood, Crimson Commando, Deathlok, Deat’s Head, Forge, Grim Reaper, Hodgem Kane, Lady Deathstrike, Misty Knight, Korvac, Steven Lang, M.A.C.H. 1, MODOK, Manbot, Metallo, Nuke, Donald Pierce, Razor Fist, Reavers, Russian, Silvermane, William Stryker, Super Adaptiod II

Diseased: Cable

Eyepatch wearers: Callisto, Nick Fury

Wheelchair bound: Hornet, Professor X, Dallas Riordan

Mutes: Black Bolt (involuntary), Smiling Tiger

Spinal disabilities: Hybrid, Madame Web, Professor X, Wiz Kid

Albino? Do people really consider this to be a disability? I’ve never heard this before and think albino’s may take offense to that. And I’m sure there are more “diseased” characters in the Marvel U.

Who has not appeared in Civil War, who you would have thought would be in it.

This is difficult. Why? Because Civil War is only on issue 3 and 4 is running late. I know there’s a lot more characters I would think to be involved and still could be. Here’s what I’ll do. I’ll list my top ten Marvel characters I’d like in the war who still MIGHT appear:

1. Hawkeye
2. Ares
3. Moon Knight
4. Ghost Rider
5. Hulk
6. Most of the X-Men
7. Spider-Woman
8. Doctor Doom
9. Nextwave
10. Eternals

I’m pretty sure I remember someone at Marvel saying that Moon Knight wouldn’t have anything to do with Civil War”¦

I just wish they’d get his book going”¦can you say BORED!

Mark asked me

Hey! I just recently finished the ..100 issue of Spider-Girl, a book I could live without…. How did Spidey lose the lower half of his leg?

May “Mayday” Parker is the child of Peter and Mary Jane Parker in a future, alternate universe continuity. In the MC2 continuity, they were reunited with their baby daughter by Kaine, who found the child living with Alison Mongraine, the con artist who had kidnapped the baby on instruction from the Green Goblin. After they were reunited, Peter lost a leg and was forced to retire following the horrific final conflict with the Green Goblin (while it’s implied that Peter was responsible for the Goblin’s death, this has never been confirmed). For many years, the duo chose to keep their past from Mayday and hoped that she wouldn’t develop powers of her own.

Cory emails

Cory’s back, again…..well sort of. What’s good fellas?

Hey Cory good to see you again. I’m good. I think Daron is back too.

What do you mean, “you think?” Didn’t we already talk above?

1. Avengers: The Crossing: “Tony killed Marilla, Yellowjacket II (Rita DeMara) and Gilgamesh (Don’t ask me how stupid the writer was not to know he was an Eternal).” HOW DO YOU POSSIBLY KILL AN ETERNAL? or how did Iron Man do it? I guess that explains why he has such an elevated ego now in Civil War.

He was assaulted by the Anachronauts. He was not able to fight them all off at once. The Avengers saved him but Henry Pym had a hard time trying to treat his wounds. Neut the weapons master later came back and finished the job by sending the powers of his spear into Gilgamesh chest until he was killed. So in reality Iron Man had something to do with it being he worked for Kang but didn’t do the job.

2. Clue #1: Iron Man takes Spider-Man’s body, so that the public will not know that Spider-Man is dead.

Clue #2: The issue and this storyline concludes with Tony Stark beginning work on a new costume for Spider-Man.

Are these the main reasons why Tony feels as though he owns Pete?

Yep that basicly is the reason. Pete owes Tony for the costume and not allowing people to think he’s dead. There’s also the fact he sees Tony as a mentor. Even more then Steve because of his own science like back grounds.

3. OMG, no Top 10 list last week????

I totally forgot. Damn ok you get one this week to make up for it. Sorry

4. “The other problem facing Cap is keeping all his forces together.” C’mon now, It’s Cap…who else can lead these guys into ANY battle or obstacle thrown at them? Is there any doubt?

Oh I know Cap’s the best leader in the Marvel universe and he will take command of the situation but with the X-Men dealing with their own matters, the Young Avengers going to get the Runaways and some others doing their own thing Cap will have to get them all together for the bigger fight. I think he will do that for Civil War # 7.

5. While speaking of Ares last week in the Handbook, how about a Thor vs. Ares battle? Who wins that?

I don’t recall them fighting yet. This could be a first for these two. I know Ares was more Herc’s villain and was used as such. He did meet Thor a few times I believe as well. But it would be one hell of a fight. I don’t know who to pick.

6. In early issues of The New Avengers, was it ever revealed as to who the shadowy figure was that Spider-Woman was secretly talking to? Am I safe to say that it was Nick Fury?

It was Nick Fury so you are right. In an issue of New Avengers we found out while she was talking to Captain America who she was working for. The interesting thing is she’s on quite a few sides.

She’s a double agent. reporting directly to Nick Fury, director of S.H.I.E.L.D., while also acting for HYDRA. Of course reporting to Nick is one thing. I don’t think she has a connection to Maria Hill.

7. 2 of my favorite (underrated) Avengers of all time are Sersi & Black Knight. I remember them going into the Ultraverse back in the day, but where are they now? How bout a Black Knight bio?

Both are back in Main stream Marvel Universe. Sersi of course currently is in the Eternals series. Dane Whitman of course is still acting as a hero. He’s been with the Heroes For Hire, Avengers, and even Excalibur in the last few years. Allow me to explain:

Black Knight

Real Name: Dane Whitman
Aliases: The Pendragon, Gann Josin, Eobar Garrington
Identity: Secret
Occupation: Adventurer, scientist; former crusader
Citizenship: U.S.A.
Place of Birth: Gloucester, Massachusetts
Known Relatives: Nathan Garrett (Black Knight, uncle, deceased); Sir Percy of Scandia, Sir Raston, Eobar Garrington (Black Knights of past eras, ancestors, deceased); Lady Rosamund, Edward, Geoffrey (ancestral relations, presumed deceased); Dafydd ap Iowerth, Arthur Pendragon, Mordred the Evil, Morgan Le Fay (distant ancestral relations)
Group Affiliation: Pendragons; formerly Avengers, Excalibur, Knights of Wundagore, Heroes for Hire, Queen’s Vengeance, Ultraforce, champions of Otherworld’s Camelot, King Richard’s army, Defenders associate, Masters of Evil
Education: Master’s degree in physics, incomplete doctoral work
Height: 6′
Weight: 190 lbs.
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Brown
Powers: None

Abilities: Highly intelligent, Dane is a trained unarmed combatant, superb swordsman, and expert horseman. Though specializing in physics, he is proficient in a wide array of advanced sciences and technologies, including genetic and mechanical engineering. He has strong strategic and tactical skills.

Weapons: Dane’s past weapons include the legendary Ebony Blade, his power lance and his laser sword. The Ebony Blade, created by the wizard Merlin, is an indestructible, enchanted sword forged of magic and a unique meteorite that fell to Earth in the Middle Ages. It can cut through any substance as well as deflect energy and penetrate energy fields, including those of mystical forces. Its owner could also transport the Blade to him through a magical bond. The Ebony Blade was also enchanted with a “blood curse,” so that, should its wielder use the blade in an unworthy manner to kill, he would be overwhelmingly compelled to use the sword to spill more blood. Once, Whitman believed the curse to be lifted, but his former apprentice Sean Dolan has since succumbed to it, becoming the murderous Bloodwraith under the Blade’s influence.

Dane’s original weapon was his power lance, a device adapted from the designs of his criminal uncle; it was a lance outfitted with a variety of hidden weapons, including heat beams, force beam projectors, gas emitters and bolas that could enwrap opponents. He has very seldom used the lance since adopting his various swords.
His laser sword, also known as his neural sword or photonic sword, is a hand-held device that generates a “blade” of light; this blade could be adjusted to various settings, including a penetrating laser that could cut through almost anything and an immaterial energy column that could disrupt a victim’s nervous system without doing physical damage.

Paraphernalia: When Dane Whitman touches his mystic pendant and invokes the name of Avalon, he conjures up his equipment and steed. The armor and weapons are extremely lightweight but supernaturally durable. His Shield of Night not only protects him from most attacks but also absorbs the energy of the forces directed against it. He can then release that stored energy in the form of power blasts from his blade, the Sword of Light. Strider can fly at great speeds and is even capable of travel underwater. While riding Strider, Dane is magically able to breathe regardless of his environment.

Before acquiring Strider, Dane rode Aragorn, Valinor and an atomic steed. Aragorn is a horse whom Dane gave wings and the power of flight through genetic engineering techniques created by his criminal uncle. When Dane’s first time trip to the era of the Crusades separated him from Aragorn, the horse was adopted by another adventurer, Brunnhilde the Valkyrie. Aragorn remains in Valkyrie’s custody to this day, with Dane’s blessing. During his time in the Twelfth Century, Dane adopted a mystical winged horse named Valinor. Unfortunately, Valinor was stolen away by the Bloodwraith. For a time, Dane used an atomic steed, one of the mechanical flying vehicles of the High Evolutionary’s Knights of Wundagore. He has since abandoned it, though, and left it in storage at Avengers Mansion, where it was used by the Swordsman (Jacques Duquesne).

History: Dane Whitman’s life as a superhero began centuries ago with his ancestor Sir Percy of Scandia, the first Black Knight. Percy’s murder at the hand of his nemesis Modred began a string of successors, all of them Percy’s decendents. From the 12th century through the 20th century, however, the mantle of the Black Knight remained vacant.

It was revived by Whitman’s uncle Nathan Garrett, who became the supervillain Black Knight II. After being mortally wounded during a battle with Iron Man, he escaped to his estate, summoned his nephew to confess his crimes, and asked him to restore honor to their family legacy.

Whitman agreed and took up the role of the Black Knight. During his first outing he was mistaken for his uncle and attacked by the Avengers, though the mistake was soon realized. Later he infiltrated the newest incarnation of the Masters of Evil. Whitman, having now fully proven himself, was, after a further adventure with the Avengers he was invited to join them Although he did not join the active membership for some time, he eventually became one of the Avengers’ most loyal and enduring members.

Shortly afterward Whitman was given the Ebony Blade by the spirit of Sir Percy. But over time it was learned that the Sword was cursed: Every time it drew blood, it drove its user closer to madness. when the Sub-Mariner used the sword to kill his wife Marrina, who had become a rampaging monster, the curse eventualy transformed Whitman’s body into the same metal as that of the blade. The transformation was undone through the efforts of Doctor Strange, Whitman, and the ghost of Sir Percy. Whitman stopped using the Ebony Blade and left the Avengers. He later developed a weapon that projected a sword-like sheath of energy (in essence, an imitation lightsaber) as a replacement. The Ebony Blade would come into the possession of Sean Dolan, who had briefly served as the “squire” of the Black Knight; it transformed Dolan into the Bloodwraith.

Whitman became an early member of the Defenders. He also became the team’s first casualty after a kiss from the Enchantress petrified him. His spirit was drawn to the 12th century by the sorcerer Amergin the Druid, and took recurring spiritual possession of his ancestor, the Crusader Sir Eobar Garrington. Meanwhile, Aragorn came into the care of fellow Defender Valkyrie.

Whitman’s original body was eventually restored and his spirit recalled back into the 20th century. He was accompanied by a gift from Amergin: a black, winged horse called Valinor.

After rejoining the Avengers Whitman had a long stretch of time as a major member of the team and eventually rose to the position of de facto field leader in Captain America’s absence. He became romantically involved with his teammate Sersi. This relationship soon came under strain as Sersi proved increasingly unstable due to the machinations of a man called Proctor. In an attempt to stabilise her, fellow Eternal Ikaris mentally bonded Sersi and Whitman with a process called the “gann josin,” but this did little to slow the process–not least due to Whitman’s resentment at having the bond imposed upon him, especially as he was beginning to turn his attentions toward Crystal, one of the Inhumans’ royal family. Sersi eventually snapped completely, forcing Whitman to aid her–until the sight of her attacking Crystal enabled him to break the gann josin’s hold on him temporarily. Proctor was later revealed to be an alternate universe counterpart of Dane. Having been rejected by his own Sersi and twisted by the gann josin and his Ebony Blade’s curse, he now traveled the multiverse with the aid of a captured Watcher named Ute on a mission to kill the Sersi of every reality. Ultimately, Sersi slew Proctor with his own Ebony Blade and was subsequently forced to leave the Marvel Universe to restore her mind. Whitman left with her, partly because he didn’t want to come between Crystal and her husband Quicksilver and partly because he felt responsible for what had happened to Sersi.
The pair were transported to the Ultraverse (home of the Malibu Comics characters). They were separated and Whitman became the leader of the superhero team called Ultraforce. He and Sersi briefly reunited to return to the Marvel universe, but something went wrong along the way. Instead of returning to the Marvel universe’s present, they ended up in the 12th century and Dane once again found his spirit in the body of Sir Eobar Garrington. His consciousness was buried under Garrington’s, however, and Sersi was forced to pass Garrington’s soul onto the next plane (with his permission, of course) to restore Dane’s consciousness. Dane found himself embroiled in a conflict with the evil mutant Apocalypse alongside his ancestor’s best friend Bennet du Paris, the mutant who would become Exodus. Apocalypse tried to get du Paris to kill his friend, but du Paris refused. Judging him weak, Apocalypse put du Paris in a state of suspended animation. Out of respect for his ancestor’s friendship with du Paris, Dane organized an order of knights to guard du Paris’ body, which they did through the ages until he was found and revived by Magneto. Sersi created another portal, this time to the correct time period, and she and Dane departed the 12th century.

Things went wrong again, however; Dane and Sersi were somehow separated in transit, which ripped their gann josin bond apart. Dane found himself back in New York in the proper time but without Sersi. He was soon dealt another shattering blow when he learned that the Avengers and most of the other major heroes had apparently perished in battle with Onslaught while he was gone. But Dane finally received some good news: The Lady of the Lake had selected him as the Pendragon for his age. She then bestowed upon him new mystical equipment from Avalon: a suit of armor, the enchanted flying horse Strider, the Shield of Night, which absorbed energy, and the Sword of Light, which returned said energy in the form of an energy projectile.

The newly empowered Knight helped the Heroes for Hire defeat Nitro, then accepted Iron Fist’s offer to join the newly formed team. Dane eventually learned what happened to Sersi when she reappeared asking for help to defeat yet another of her old enemy Ghaur’s nefarious schemes. Later the Heroes for Hire found themselves in the midst of a major conflict in the High Evolutionary’s city of Wundagore. The Black Knight left the team to assist the Knights of Wundagore along with Quicksilver and later returned to the Avengers when they expanded their roster to include satellite teams around the world. Whitman was sent to the Slorenian border, where the Bloodwraith had used the Ebony Blade to absorb the souls of the entire population after they had been killed by the android Ultron. After the “Kang War” arc, the Avengers disbanded these global teams, and the Black Knight’s curent status as of 2006 is unknown.

Alright Daron asked me to cut this up. Here’s what I’m doing. The update on where characters stand stays. I did find a way to shorten it though. I’m going to cover issues now as they come out. Yes I’ll catch you up though from last week
Issues and synopsis so far:

Amazing Spider-Man #529-531: After receiving a new costume from Tony Stark he goes to Washington with the man to speak to Congress about a Superhuman Registration act. Tony Stark as Iron Man pays Titanium Man to combat Spider-Man. Spidey agrees to stick with Tony no matter what.

Fantastic Four #536-537: Thor’s hammer returned to Earth crashing into Oklahoma and then put under U.S. Army protection. Six months later Doctor Doom, who had escaped from Hell during the hammers return, tried to claim the hammer for himself but was unable to lift it. After this, a man wearing a backpack with the initials “D.B.” is seen boarding a bus for Oklahoma.

New Avengers: The Illuminati: Iron Man was handed a copy of the Super-human Registration Act. He told the rest of the group about it. Reed Richards went along with Iron Man, but Namor, Dr. Strange and Black Bolt all disagreed and left. With most of the members gone, it implied that the team was over, with Mr. Fantastic telling Iron Man that it “was fun while it lasted” before leaving.
