The (Early) SmackDown Report

Archive, Reviews, Shows, TV Shows

We get a recap of pretty much the entire feud between Khali and Taker, but I’d like to have seen it include the entire storyline between Daivari and Taker.

Tonight: Last Man Standing AND Fit Finlay defends against Bobby Lashley!

Opening Contest: Batista vs Sylvan
Spear, Spineuster, and Batista Bomb and victory. Uh huh.
Winner: Batista

-Five out of Ten, of course.

Layla won the Diva Search. Good on her, I say, and at least my pick got into the finals. I was close.

M.V.P is up in a sky box watching the show with some ladies.

Second Contest: Scotty Too Hotty vs Sylvester Turkay w/Elijah Burke
Can we give Turkay some legit competition? No? Oh, okay then.Hotty gets some punches in to start but quickly escapes from the ring before Turkay can react. That right there has made Turkay look like half of a million bucks in my eyes. Hotty gets a shoulder to the gut of Turkay, but Turkay kicks Hotty off the apron. Back in the ring Turkay knees the gut of Hotty and then nails a double arm suplex. Turkay with a face first sleeper which Hotty escapes with elbows, but gets nailed with a belly to belly. Turkay runs right into some elbows and feet, but Turkay rams Hotty back into the corner and nails a vicious Fisherman’s for the three count.
Winner: Sylvester Turkay

Certainly not intense as his former matches but he’s definatley becoming much more of a professional wrestler in terms of pacing; and if he can find the perfect combination then he’ll be pure gold. Either way, Turkay attacks Hotty afterwards and M.V.P applauds. Match itself was another a squash, but a much more interesting squash. -Five out of Ten. I really do hate squashes.

We get a video package of Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero.

Commercials.

Kristal interviews Brian Kendrick and Paul London backstage; nothing special interview leads to a nothing interesting attack by Idol Stevens, K.C. James, and Michelle McCool. I will say this though; McCool really suits corsets.

Third Contest: Mr Kennedy vs Tatanka
Circling to start before the two lock up and Tatanka pushes Kennedy down. Circling again and they lock up again, Kennedy goes behind Tatanka but Tatanka gets behind Kennedy, Kennedy then goes behind Tatanka and Tatanka does the same, but Kennedy elbows Tatanka and tries to run but Tatanka grabs the tights and brings Kennedy back in and then begins to work the arm. Shoulders by Tatanka before he slams Kennedy’s arm into the top turnbuckles. Kennedy gets sent off the ropes and misses a clothesline but turns into the chops by Tatanka. Kennedy gets sent back into the ropes but rolls outside, Tatanka follows and comes at Kennedy from behind and sends Kennedy back into the ring. Kennedy off the ropes but Tatanka flips him over by turning on his side (which looked pretty cool too).

Headlock by Tatanka but Kennedy forces him off into the ropes but Tatanka comes back with a shoulder. Off the ropes again and Tatanka clotheslines Kennedy down. Kennedy gets a dropkick to the knee of Tatanka. Kennedy kicks away at the knee of Tatanka, Tatanka punches him away but Kennedy hooks Tatanka’s leg at the ropes, Tatanka tries to fight Kennedy off but Kennedy dropkicks the targetted knee of Tatanka. Kennedy gets an elbow drop on Tatanka for a two count. Kennedy puts force on Tatanka’s knee and in a perfect heel moment does the Indian scream, Tatanka tries to punch Kennedy off but Kennedy releases the hold before punching Tatanka’s knee and slamming it down on the mat. Kennedy gets a two count.

Kennedy gets a short arm clothesline for a two count and then goes back to the knee, putting force on it yet again with Tatanka this time getting caught in some pinfalls before he forces Kennedy off of him. Kennedy gets sent face first into the turnbuckle, runs into an elbow by Tatanka and a high boot before Tatanka runs into a clothesline. Kennedy and Tatanka exchange rights on their knees as well as on their feet, with tatanka getting the upper hand. Shoulder body toss by Tatatanka, dance and we’ve got the chops. Running chop to the face of Kennedy before Tatanka nails the Tomahawk Chop for a two count. Tatanka goes for the Trail’s End but Kennedy falls behind in a tight package, using the tights, and gets the three count.
Winner: Mr Kennedy

.. Another good match by Tatanka. Not to the level of his matches with Sylvan, but still darned good considering some of the matches Tatanka was in on Velocity. Four out of Ten.

M.V.P applauds the previous match too and raises his glass to it.

Up next: Last Man Standing! The Great Khali vs The Undertaker!

Eddie and Chavo Guerrero video.

Long in on his office discussing M.V.P’s contract, before Vickie comes in. She begs Long to stop the entire thing between Rey and Chavo. Long says the only way to dissolve this conflict is for them to wrestle. Vickie says it’s risky and that Eddie would want them to have risky; but Long says that the two wrestlers have agreed, but Vickie says in the name of Eddie this has to stop. Long says that he’s sorry and that their match at SummerSlam will still occur.

Khali doesn’t get to his feet before the ten count!
Winner: The Undertaker

I think this was pretty much what was expected; a minimally thrilling match with minimal brutality and minimal quick pacing. -Two out of Ten. I will say one positive thing about this match though, it was oddly satisfying to see Khali finally be opened up and decimated for once. For me, at least.

Backstage, our King And Queen are making their way to the ring right now!

Commercials.

We’re back and King Booker and Queen Sharmell are in the ring, with the pyros exploding off from behind his chair. Booker gets on the microphone and talks about Summerslam and Batista; about how Batista has been focusing on this title since he had to forfeit the title due to a small, small injury. King Booker can march into SummerSlam and beat him to a royal bloodied pulp, and while the Animal says he wants Booker, Booker says he doesn’t. Batista has no heart, passion, no idea what King Booker is all about. Batista has lead his people all astray, Batista knows he cannot beat King Booker and at Summerslam Booker will prove that within any shadow of a doubt. But there is .. option B. If Batista wants to know what that is, then Batista can come down to the ring and listen ..

Batista comes out, still in his wrestling attire. Booker says that Batista has heard option A, and he’s interested in option B. Option B allows Batista to not publically humiliate himself and save the embarrassment, and with Option B he can keep respect from his fans. Option B is for Batista to bow down to King Booker and kiss his royal feet. A’rite? Booker sits down and (JBL: “That’s a royal foot if I ever saw one”) Sharmell takes his shoe and sock off. Batista studies the foot and looks to be about to k-iss it, but stomps on it! Batista clotheslines Booker out of the ring and poses with the King’s Robe as SmackDown, thankfully, fades to black. So the results for this week’s SmackDown stands at;

Batista vs Sylvan: -5/10
Sylvester Turkay vs Scotty Too Hotty: -5/10
Mr Kennedy vs Tatanka: 4/10
Undertaker vs Great Khali: -2/10
Vito vs Scott Valiant: -3/10
Fit Finlay vs Lashley: 6/10
SmackDown 18/08/06: -5/60

… There’s really not much I can say about this week’s show. Turkay and Vito got their victories in, though their squash matches should end soon; Undertaker and Khali HAD to have their blow off match; Tatanka’s negative push continues; we get Finlay and Lashley again, we got some acceptable promo work by Booker .. So why on earth did this show suck big time? Oh well, until the SummerSlam round table! Ciao Y’all!
