The Weekly Pulse: TV's Second Wife

Archive

I didn’t know what to write about this week. However, I didn’t feel like stepping outside of myself and looking at men as sex objects like my friend, Mathan, did last week. Sorry..just not for me. But I did notice that Fall is just around the corner and that means another TV season will begin! All of your favorite shows will return this Fall on the major networks along with a host of new shows that the networks hope to be around next year.

I have pretty much watched the same shows each week this summer as part of the Summer TV Season. But that will change over the next few weeks. So I decided to tell everyone what shows I will be watching, or at least trying to watch, this Fall! That’s coming up later so stick around!

Random Thoughts on Random Shows

‘The Contender’

I was a little shocked that Ebo Elder got knocked out this week. He was one of my favorites to win, but you know..you have to win your first match to win the whole thing. Therefore, my pick is Steve Forbes. However, he has not fought yet. He has to do it in the next two weeks. So I hope he survives his first match. If not, I will have to pick again. I’ll keep trying until I get it right!

‘Miss Teen USA’

You want more proof I’m psychic or at least can pretend to be psychic..well here you go. I watched this since nothing else was on my other TiVo. I took a look at the opening introductions of the 51 girls and I picked out 5 girls that jumped out at me and made me take a second look. All 5 of those girls made it to the top 10 in the competition. 3 of them made it to the final 5. And I successfully picked Miss Montana as the winner once the list got narrowed down to 10. The others finished 3rd and 4th. I don’t know, she was different than anyone else and that’s hard to do when they all look alike! I will say this, though. This is more proof that you can’t tell what age girls are these days. All of these girls were from ages 15-18, but they all could pass for 21 or older!

‘Big Brother 7: All-Stars’

Things started off good this week. Erika thought she won “HOH”, but due to technical problems with that game..she didn’t win it. They had to play the game again. And, of course, Janelle wins “HOH” to PISS everyone off except Howie. That is her only friend. She can’t trust Will or Mike. They only care about themselves and using everyone else. But Janelle is a strong player and if she can keep winning..she will survive. Basically, she is like Wes on ‘Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Fresh Meat’ this year. Everyone is against her and to make to the end, she has to keep winning. It has worked out for Wes..lets see if it works for Janelle. Now as for her nominations..well..they were great. Danielle and Erika are two “floaters”. Wait..scratch that..Erika is in love with Mike now so she is with “Chill Town II”. But as far as everyone else knows..she is a “floater”. Will and James decide to throw the “POV” so that Danielle wins. Make sense since that is James’ only hope in the game really. Will just wants to use Danielle some more. Will then tricks Janelle into putting Marcellas up for eviction. I liked this move as well as Marcellas is a “floater”. But I don’t see why Marcellas is so mad at Janelle. They used to be friends, but Marcellas has been talking bad about Janelle the last few weeks. Yes..that is all behind-her-back, but still..he doesn’t like her so it would make sense for her to put him up. Of course, Janelle thinks Marcellas will stay this week. That won’t be happening. Mike and Will should be voting for Erika to stay, of course. Howie will vote out Erika since Janelle wants Marcellas to stay. I know James doesn’t like Marcellas, so I think he will try to get rid of him as well. It really doesn’t matter what George decides to do, since I believe Danielle will vote out Marcellas as well. It should be Marcellas going home this week! And by the count of 6-0..Marcellas is going home! Just like I said, but the bigger thing is Mike winning the Coup d’Etat. George is the new “HOH” as well and he had to immediately put up James and Erika. Not too sure about this, but I think Mike could use the Coup this week. But that’s only if enough people will get rid of James this week. Mike wants Erika to stay, of course, so this will be interesting to see how everything works out.

Now lets take a look at what else has been going on this past week at IPTV!!

Seinfeld Quote of the Week

“And I tell you another thing..Cosmo Kramer..whatever you want to be called..the kissing thing is over! There’s no more kissing and I don’t care what the consequences are!”Jerry from Season Six’s “The Kiss Hello”

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming…

Columns a.k.a. Triple Threat Holding Downing the Fort!!!

Mathan Erhardt liked my review of the Season Three DVD of ‘The Wire’ last week. He also steps outside of his body and tells you which leading men in his favorite shows..he would..well..you know. Yeah..he has lost his mind..I know. But before that, he does have some sane comments on ‘Monk’, ‘Psych’, ‘Brotherhood’, ‘Deadwood’, ‘Entourage’, ‘Lucky Louie’, ‘Eureka’, ‘Rescue Me’, ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’, ‘Life on Mars’, ’30 Days’, ‘Saved’, and ‘City of Men’! I went 6 for 13 this week, which is GREAT! That’s a little less than half. And finally, I would also be a drug dealer in the community of Agrestic from ‘Weeds’ over the streets of Baltimore in ‘The Wire’. Why? It’s the suburbs!

Matt Basilo has a double stuffed edition of his column this week. He’s back from vacation and has a new tan. He also missed ‘Windfall’ the past few weeks, so all you get is two weeks’ worth of ‘The 4400’ and ‘The Dead Zone’! Enjoy!

Kevin Wong talks fantasy football this week! Count me in for the writer’s league even with the draft time! Anyways he also comments on ‘Hell’s Kitchen’, ‘Canadian Idol’, ‘Rock Star: Supernova’, and looks forward to ‘Prison Break’ returning in just a few days!

Recaps a.k.a. Fall Knocks on the Door!!!

Trevor MacKay watches Kaysar leave the house on last Thursday’s episode of ‘Big Brother 7: All-Stars’! So sad!

I watch and recap Sunday night’s ‘Big Brother 7: All-Stars’ episode. And as always, Monday night is me having some quality time with ‘Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Fresh Meat’!

Murtz was there LIVE to watch ‘Canadian Idol’ this week as it went “unplugged”! A change of venue as well for the show.

Kevin Wong brings you the latest performances from ‘Canadian Idol’. He also has the second-to-last episode of ‘Treasure Hunters’. Finally, he has the singing and voting off on ‘Rock Star: Supernova’!

Ed Hampton picks up where Kevin left off and that’s providing you the results to this week’s ‘Canadian Idol’!

Richard Mauntah continues his Tuesday night affair with ‘Big Brother 7: All-Stars’!

This week we had 2 TV on DVD reviews!

Romo takes a look at another great HBO show when he reviews Deadwood: The Complete Second Season!

Celebrities a.k.a. Roxanne!!

Former ‘Apprentice’, Roxanne Wilson, interviews Bryce Gahagan from ‘The Apprentice 5’ this week. She is making her way through the entire roster.

The Weekly Pulse Weekly Poll

Last week..I asked the question…”are you psychic?” And here are the results:

YES!! Always have been! – 2
YES!! At least I can pretend to be one! – 1
NO!! I’ve never been one! – 2
NO, but I want to be since it’s fun! – 0

A small response and it’s a tie! Either people think they are psychic or they know they aren’t psychic. That’s pretty much it. Although, someone is like me and can pretend to be psychic since they have a great memory like Shawn Spencer on ‘Psych’. I still say it’s fun to do and that’s all that matters.

Now for this week’s question. It is…“which new show are you looking forward to the most this Fall?”. This applies only to new shows that CBS, FOX, ABC, NBC, and THE CW are debuting this Fall. It doesn’t count cable and it doesn’t count shows that will come as mid-season replacements or shows coming in January. That’s a whole new season of TV really. Which new show is the one you want to watch over all others? Let me know by clicking on the link and VOTING! Remember..VOTE OR DIE!

Time to Talk a.k.a. Time to Look to the Future of TV!!!

Now that I have two TiVos I can watch three channels at a time. And if you haven’t noticed this summer, I plan on doing that when I need to. My list of recorded shows has grown LONG! This will also allow me to catch as many of the new shows this year as I want, though. So how about I tell you want I plan to be watching this Fall or at the very least attempt to watch.

I should say here that this is mostly on network TV. I’m sure I will be watching other cable channels like MTV or the FX or the FOOD NETWORK this Fall, but since most of their shows are repeated often..I can afford to miss them and record them later. Major networks don’t usually repeat their shows until summer and by that time..I have less time to watch them.

We start things off with Sunday. Sundays are for football during the day and football at night with NBC this Fall. They get the Sunday night football game from ESPN this year. Will I be watching it every week? NOPE! But I will check in on it whenever there is nothing else to watch or some game seems interesting. What will I be watching? Well..at 6 I will be watching the only CW show I care to watch. That is the return of ‘Everybody Hates Chris’. At 7 the only show that I HAVE to watch is ‘The Amazing Race’ on CBS. At 8 it’s ‘Desperate Housewives’ on ABC. And at 9, I might as well watch ‘Brothers & Sisters’ on ABC to see what that is all about. So there is something every hour for me to watch besides football. This night is pretty light, though. Great chance I will be watching some cable here.

Next we have Monday and this is where things really start to heat up. At 7, NBC has ‘Deal or No Deal’. FOX has ‘Prison Break’ and eventhough I didn’t watch the show last year..I have the chance to watch it this year, so I will do just that and try to catch the DVD of the first season later. On CBS, they debut ‘The Class’, which looks funny and follow it up with my new favorite from last year, ‘How I Met Your Mother’. That looks solid. At 8, I will try out two new shows with ‘Heroes’ on NBC and ‘Vanished’ on FOX. At 9, it’s the return of ‘What About Brian’ and another new show, ‘Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip’. ESPN also gets ‘Monday Night Football’ from ABC for those who want their football. That’s a pretty busy Monday night, but mostly full of new shows.

On Tuesday, it’s a bunch of new shows for me and shows that I don’t really watch and some I don’t care to watch. At 7, I will watch ‘Friday Night Lights’ on NBC. And that’s about it as I don’t care about ‘House’, ‘N.C.I.S.’ or ‘Dancing with the Stars’. But since there is nothing else on..’DTWS’ may be given a spot on the TiVo. At 8, I might as well try out ‘The Knights of Pros-perity’ and ‘Help Me Help You’ on ABC. I may also watch ‘The Unit’, but nothing else really jumps out at me. Finally, at 9 there is nothing but the new show ‘Smith’. Although, ‘Nip/Tuck’ is on FX and ‘Juvies’ is on MTV. So that may be something. I could try to watch some of these others shows that have been on the air the past few years, but I doubt it. Pretty light night for me, but for other people who are fans of ‘House’, ‘Boston Legal’, ‘N.C.I.S.’, ‘Gilmore Girls’. ‘Veronica Mars’, and ‘Law & Order’..they might have a busy night.

Wednesday is another night where I will try and watch all of the shows on NBC. Like Monday, though, it’s mostly new shows. At 7, it’s ’20 Good Years’ and ’30 Rock. That really is the only interest for me there. But CBS has their new show ‘Jericho’, which I might try. At 8, it’s ‘Lost’ on ABC along with ‘The Biggest Loser’ on NBC. And maybe I will try to keep up with ‘One Tree Hill’ on THE CW. ‘Day Break’ on ABC takes over for ‘Lost’ for a bit and that looks pretty good as well. At 9, it’s ‘Kidnapped’ on NBC along with ‘The Nine’ on ABC. So basically everything revolves around ‘Lost’ on Wednesday as usual.

Thursday night is supposed to be the BIGGEST night on TV to most people and I agree. My TiVos will be working overtime. At 7, 8, and 9, I will be watching 3 channels at the same time. This night is the reason why I got my new TiVo as you will see. At 7, we have ‘Survivor’ on CBS, ‘My Name is Earl’ and ‘The Office’ on NBC, and a couple of new comedies on FOX called ‘Til Death’ and ‘Happy Hour’. At 8, things heat up. We have ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ on ABC, ‘The O.C.’ on FOX, and ‘Deal or No Deal’ on NBC. ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and ‘The O.C.’ are two of my favorite shows on TV..so no there. At 9, we finish things off with ‘E.R.’ on NBC and new shows ‘Six Degrees’ on ABC and ‘Shark’ on CBS. I’m looking forward to this night the most.

Friday night is usually light on anything good since it’s the weekend. And really..there is nothing here that I MUST watch. ‘WWE Smackdown’ on THE CW might be here by default. At 8, it’s a possibility I could try out ‘Men in Trees’ on ABC and maybe ‘Las Vegas’ on NBC. ‘Celebrity Duets’ on FOX could sneak in here as well. Other than that..I could try and watch ‘Numb3rs’ on CBS at 9. That’s about it, though.

Saturday night is not worth talking about. It’s just college football time and that means ABC takes over. Weekend is not really time to watch TV anyways, but cable could have some good stuff on every now and then.

Looking back..I would say my top 5 shows that I will watch every single episode of..will be ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, ‘The O.C.’, ‘How I Met Your Mother’, ‘My Name is Earl’, and ‘The Office’. So it should be no surprise that Thursday is my favorite night, but I also look forward to Monday night as well. Tuesday and Wednesday seems to be more hit or miss for me as I attempt to watch all of these new shows. And Sunday, Saturday, and Friday is the weekend so there you go.

Now as far as new shows go..what shows am I looking forward to watching this Fall? Glad you asked me. #1 show has to be ‘The Class’ on CBS on Monday before ‘How I Met Your Mother’. It looks funny and should go well with my new favorite show, ‘HIMYM’. But close behind that show is ‘Six Degrees’. It adds to an already packed Thursday night and seems like another hit on ABC’s hands. After that, I like all of NBC’s new shows including ‘Heroes’, ‘Friday Night Lights’ and ‘Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip’. I don’t really know much about the rest of the new shows, so it’s hard to comment on them. But I will try and give every new show a chance. You never know what you are missing until you give it a chance. And as I always say..it’s better to try things out and not like it than to never try it out at all, because at least you know and don’t have to wonder about what you are missing for the rest of your life or at least until the show is cancelled!

That’s all I got this week! Any questions, comments, or suggestions are always welcome, of course! Whether that be telling me which new shows you are looking forward to watching or anything else!

Remember..“Life Ain’t Always Beautiful, but It’s a Beautiful Ride!”

And as always…“You Can’t Fight Fate!”. See you next week!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
