The Movie

I hadn’t heard anything about this movie before I reviewed it. It basically just looked intriguing from various articles. So while I had no expectations, this movie exceeded whatever expectations I could have had.

Adam is returning to the Philippines for his father’s funeral. When he lands he receives a phone call on a cell phone he doesn’t own, laying out what he has to do to make sure his mother and sister won’t be executed. At that point it is a race through the Philippines to try to save them, all with some handy camera work.

If you watch The Shield, the camera work will seem familiar, as it is all handheld. It adds a sense of reality to the movie, which in turn grabs you and sucks you into the film even more. What makes the film special is the balance between the story and the camera work, with a dash of Ian Gamazon’s acting thrown in.

Gamazon plays the character that he helped write very convincingly, although the basis for the character and what he is going through isn’t overly original. By that I mean kidnapping and threats. I can dig the rest of the plot and how you get to the kidnapping and threats and what has to be done to stop it is extremely original.

Cavite is a film that would grab attention and big time awards if done on a Hollywood scale with marketing to match. It is that good, just lacking the big budget to market it properly.

Score: 9/10
