Canadian Idol – Recap – August 22

Archive

Ben immediately starts off the show introducing Martina and the Idols doing “I can’t Stop Loving You”. And you know what? I can’t stop loving this. What a great job. Martina moved over for the Idols. After she sang the first line Eva chimed in and almost overshadowed her. Then the rest got a line a piece. This is what singing with the guest should be about not the guest just getting up there to promote some CD or tour. Magnificent!

Ben then let’s us know that 3.1 million voted. A season high no less. Ben then re introduces the judges. Then we get our recap. Eva was just as great. Tyler seemed weaker. The rest seemed the same.

Breaktime!

Ben introduces Martina to sing solo from her most recent CD. Yeah I know what I said but she let the Idols do their thing earlier so still big kudos from me. Plus I don’t mind listening to her. After she sang she is asked how the Idols did and she of course praised them. And said she would be back in Canada in March 2007.

Breaktime!

Back from break Ben let’s us know it will be a bottom two tonight. And starts with the “D” and as suspected she is the first member of the bottom two. It would have been a surprise not to see her there. That’s where she lives.

Next Craig, Tyler, Eva, and Chad are grouped together. And the last member of the bottom two is……. EVA! What the hell is Canada doing?! Eva?! Her and my smile as well disappeared after that news.

Ben turns to Zack and asks if this is the bottom two that he would have picked.

Zack: “Well yeah if I banged my head against a wall for a half an hour til my brain stopped working. That’s how I would have voted.” OOOOOOO! Take that Canadian voters. No translation needed.

Ben turns to Jake and asks how important personality and charisma been this season.

Jake: “Well in this situation, not a lot. The two people there have the most personality and charisma.” Nary a translation needed here either. He’s straight up right.

Ben quizzes Sass next with the less than 3 weeks to the final what is the biggest pitfall the final 4 need to avoid question….again.

Sass: “This is a time when everyone and their dog is having an a opinion of what you should be doing and how you should do it. The whole world (CTV only wishes) is going to tell you what to do from now on. Ignore them and go with your heart. You know best.” Déjà vu all over again. I swear she said that once before. Translation: Don’t listen to any guest judges anymore. Just kidding.

Falrey’s next on Ben’s hit list with what people at home should expect next week with the judges picking songs for the remaining four.

Farley: “Well basically they can expect is songs that allow these kids to do what we think their potential can live up to. That’s what’s going to happen. Songs that are extensions of what their talent base is. They’re just going to come out and wreck shop.” Translation: He hopes.

Breaktime!

Ben the draws it out and says Eva….you are ….safe! Eva at first bends back head in relief then immediately to tears as she leans to hug Steffi. Whoa!

The funeral video reinforces my understanding why I loved her so much. Her exit speech was so calm and straightforward without a tear. This girl’s gonna be big.

Ben informs us that the songs will be judge picked next week Then Steffi sings us out doing ….Steffi. And now on with the show. There has never been a more entertaining goodbye in Idol history. Steffi not only sings great but makes us pay even more attention tonight. She hands out bows to the judges and the other contestants as she struts around the stage then makes her way through the audience. At the end of her COMPLETE performance, Farley, Jake and Zack come up on stage and rightly raise her up on their shoulders. That’s something you don’t see every day. That’s something you have never seen.
