Big Brother 7 Recap – Episode 21 (August 24)

Archive

It’s hard to believe there are only 3 Thursday shows (counting this one), left in the Big Brother season. This season may not have been the best one ever, but it has certainly gone by rather quickly.

Julie introduces us to another live eviction week of Big Brother 7. She tells us that George and James are on the block. While James thinks he is safe, is he about to become another Howie?

Fortunately we get a segment on the veto aftermath to help us explore that question. James says while you can never have total trust in the game, he is confident that George will be the one going home this week. George, for his part, isn’t going to campaign and figures he’ll just be himself and hope things turn out.

Danielle tells James she’s concerned about how the vote will turn out. Next we see Will talking to Danielle. He tells her that he thinks James may be playing both sides and is still working with Janelle. Danielle doesn’t buy this but Will (not surprisingly) isn’t convinced by her argument (since this is all a ploy to keep her on their side while ditching James, of course). In the DR, Danielle implies a grim fate is in store for Chilltown if they betray James (and Danielle).

Erika is the next person we see talking with Danielle. She doesn’t think she can trust James or George. Danielle brings up the veto competition he threw for their alliance but Erika says that was only to save Danielle, not the alliance.

Next on the Danielle chat list is Janelle. Danielle offers Janelle a truce; and after a lengthy pause, Janelle accepts (though in the DR we learn she didn’t know what to say and so she just said ‘yes’). Janelle says you should be honest to people who are honest with you but when people lie, you should lie to them as well. Danielle also mentions floaters and makes the implication that she’s targeting Chilltown.

And now we see various conversations James had about his safety this week. He comes up to Janelle, who is reading the bible for some reason. James talks about the rift between them that seems to be there sometimes and says he thinks Erika is going to vote for George to stay. Janelle tells James that she will vote for him to stay in the game.

When James talks to Will he says he’s worried about being another Howie. Will assures James that he has absolutely nothing to worry about. However when we see Will talking to Danielle again; he’s still pushing the double-dipping theory on In the DR room Danielle is quite upset at the prospect of James’ possible departure.

In the HoH room Will tells Boogie of the conversations he has had with Danielle. They want her to join with them in getting rid of James. Will says they are getting rid of James either way, but they would rather keep Danielle’s allegiance in the process.

Julie talks with the houseguests next. She asks Mike about the tiff between himself and Howie. Mike says he hopes it wouldn’t have come to blows cause Howie’s a lot bigger than he is. George admits that he does feel a little guilty about putting up Howie but says that it is just a game. Janelle tells Julie she took Howie’s eviction hard but she is better now.

Now it’s time for our first look at the jury house. Marcellas has upped his drama queen level while on the way to the jury house it seems as he describes it as his “own personal hell” and the worst experience of his life, despite the fact it’s a pretty nice place.

Then, presumably in response to some prodding questions, Marcellas says he is glad that he’s got a week to spend alone so he can try to be less bitter before he has to deal with any of the houseguests. He also says that if Howie were to be first person to join him in the jury house, it would be Marcellas’ worst nightmare. So of course, Marcellas is less than thrilled when Howie turns up.

Howie and Marcellas watch the video of the past week’s competitions (they’ve actually stepped up to using DVDs this year). Marcellas yells at Howie after Howie starts talking about how disgusting Erika is on TV. Marcellas thinks that George’s choice to put up Howie was another example of how everyone has been playing stupidly this year. Howie refers to Marcellas as ‘Marcy’ and Marcellas snaps at him, saying that now that they aren’t in the Big Brother house, he doesn’t have to pretend to be nice to Howie anymore.

Julie says that Chilltown knows how to play the game and the ladies. However the choice of woman they ally with could mean the difference between winning and losing.

After a couple shots of Erika and Boogie’s ‘showmance’ we get some DR footage from Boogie. He says he really likes Erika and thinks she’s a really good person, but he also implies that things might not go so well for her in the game if she gets in Chilltown’s way.

Will finds it fun to flirt with Janelle; he thinks he has her in the palm of his hand. He and Boogie talk about playing Erika and Janelle off of each other to help Chilltown get further into the game. Will says he trusts Janelle the most, while Boogie has much more trust in Erika. Will is freaked out by Erika and does not trust her in the least. Will says they need to pick one of the two and bring that person into the fold to help Chilltown in the game.

Mike’s in the HoH room now to talk with Julie. When asked about Janelle he says that she is very useful to have around as she draws attention away from Chilltown. He thinks that they could make it to the end if Janelle worked with them, but he’s not completely sure he can trust Janelle. Mike also tells Julie that since Will did it in BB2, he would be okay with choosing the money over Will (BB2 was a long time ago but I don’t really remember Will selling out Chilltown, he was just the only one to survive) but that he really hopes it will not come to that. Boogie adds that though he was tempted to use the Coup d’Etat, he found the threat of a mystery power was a more effective weapon to wield over the other houseguests.

We get the standard pre-eviction DR thoughts now. Erika isn’t sure what to do, she mentions that George is a tricky ally because even he doesn’t know what he’s going to do; Danielle’s upset again and says she needs James to stay in the game, if he does not, she will “get rid of them, one by one”; Janelle says she has a sense of loyalty towards James and thinks that maybe she owes him a vote, even if it won’t save him; Will compares James and George in various game-related categories, saying James is by far the superior (and hence more dangerous) player.

After noting that James once tried to oust George from the house and is now on the block with him, Julie tells the houseguests that the secret power has now expired (without revealing what the power was or confirming who had the power). She then gives James and George a chance to make a final plea to their housemates. James thanks the voters for getting him into the house and then says that he wants to stay because he’s a competitor and he enjoys competing. George just thanks the house for keeping him around up to this point and says ‘cool beans’.

There are four people voting tonight and Boogie votes in case of a tie. Erika is the first to vote and she votes to evict James. Will is up next and his vote is also to evict James. Danielle’s vote, not surprisingly, is to evict Chicken George. And Janelle seals James’ fate by voting to evict him as well.

Julie reveals by a vote of 3-1, George… is safe and James is evicted (they haven’t used that little swerve in a bit (though it was only a swerve to the houseguests as we’d all seen the live voting)). James doesn’t seem at all bothered by the eviction and gives hugs to many of the houseguests before leaving (including Janelle, Erika and Boogie, all people who are at least semi-responsible for his departure). As he’s leaving Boogie calls him a class act and he gets genuine applause from the house (in quite a contrast to the last eviction).

Sitting down with Julie, James keeps the upbeat demeanor. He says that he was beaten by the best and that he kind of likes going out this way. He admits that he took the game too seriously at first but he has lightened up considerably as the game progressed.

Julie brings up some of the things James said about Janelle while in the house. James was angry because he thinks she sold him out a lot, even in the first week, bringing up a number of examples that were either A) unaired or B) exist only in James’ head. He questions what show people have been watching when Julie asks about his betrayal of Kaysar and Janelle. James says they betrayed him first by lying about nominations and evictions so he thinks things went both ways on that front.

Julie plays the goodbye messages for James. George mentions they’ve had a pinball relationship in the house but that things are all good; Janelle thanks James for playing the game with more honesty this year; Erika says James had to go because there’s only room for one big floater, and that’s her; Boogie says he had hoped the LoD could have made the final four but things didn’t turn out that way; Danielle promises to take care of Chilltown if James is evicted (it seems like this threat would hold more sway if she had been able to get a single person in the house to go along with her save James plan); Will takes the responsibility for James’ eviction. Will says James was such a strong player that Will had to get rid of him. James is pretty happy with the comments made and says it was an honor to get to work with players like Will and Danielle.

Tonight’s HoH event is called “But first”. The houseguests are blindfolded and on stairs. Julie tells them one thing that happened in the house, but first another thing happened. If they think what she said was true they step up, if they think false, they step down and the last one standing is the new HoH.

True or false: Howie called Mike a punk but first gnomes threw pies in the houseguests’ faces.
False. Everyone got it right.

True or false: Houseguests got dolled up for prom night, but first the grim reaper appeared.
True. George and Janelle are gone from the competition.

Jase refused to walk Nakomis to the door after she was evicted, but first Kaysar became a human blueberry
False. Janelle and Will both say true. Erika hesitates on the middle step for a long time before stepping down to false, making her the new Head of Household.

Danielle’s the first to rush over to Erika, giving her a big hug. Presumably Danielle’s hoping she can use Erika to oust Chilltown from the game (which may be tricky if she doesn’t put them both up).

Julie congratulates Erika on her HoH win (presumably there’s not likely to be a re-do this time around) and teases George by saying they’ve got fried chicken and beer waiting for him outside. Janelle isn’t sure how she feels about being the last person from S6 in the game but says she misses the others. And we also learn from Danielle that it is hard to be away from your family for 53 days (Kind of a pointless question, Julie. Really, was there any other answer she could give?)

To close the show, Julie reveals that on next Thursday’s live show, there’ll be not one but two evictions, implying that the second one will be decided completely via events taking place on that one show. That should be interesting to see.

We then get a final bit of footage from the house, showing Boogie and Erika celebrating her victory in the storage room, to close out the episode.
