TNA: In the Zone for 8/24/06

This week the show begins with Brother Runt challenging Abyss to a 10,000-thumbtack match. This should be bloody and fun. These are two guys that don’t give a damn what happens to their bodies, as long as we are entertained.

Speaking of entertained, I am not really all here right now. I went to see Poison and Cinderella in concert last night. It was a hell of a show! They were both celebrating their 20th anniversary of making music. They had a young band with them that was called End Ever After. These guys rocked it like it was 1986.

Anyway, Shane Douglas is out at the top of the show to announce his Naturals, who promptly LOSE a match to the Paparazzis. I thought that the point here was to build up the Nats to the point where they were a legitimate threat? Don’t misunderstand me, Alex Shelley is STILL among my favorite wrestlers, and I love to see him win, in either a serious match or one filled with antics. It’s just that I hate stalled pushes. I’m thinking that they were in the position to pull the trigger on the Naturals, but they misfired entirely. I did like the “Who’s Yer Daddy” chant at the end. Hah!

In The Back, Borash has AMW, and wants to know if they are breaking up, or what. Harris wants James Storm to shake hands, if they are going to stay together, but Storm wants to drink to it. This surely isn’t the last we’ll see of this disintegration.

Speaking of disintegration, what the hell is up with Monte and the Truth? We knew that Nash wasn’t staying long, but Ron Killings has been a #1 guy in TNA for a while, and Monte was at least decent. I hope Killings comes to his senses. Just last week I was talking about how much I liked his demeanor. Come to find out he was just pissed off. This sucks. On the same note, how long will it be till we see Kurt Angle on TNA?

Next up, Christian Cage is out to deliver his face-to-face explanation regarding his actions at the PPV. He reiterates that he took out Sting for all of us, and I want to believe him. Rhino doesn’t however, as he comes out looking for more. Rhino demands answers, and Cage gives them to him. He explains that Rhino should stand beside him, no matter what decision he makes, because Rhino owes it to him. They have been friends forever.

I agree with Cage. Wow. Cage even offers Rhino a chair, which he declines. Instead, the War Machine finds it manlier to beat Cage up barehanded. Wow, I am really unsure who to root for here. This is the way to handle a feud. Cage ends it by showing us that he is not afraid to use the chair, and even brings back something that I have been waiting for… a one-man Con-Chair-To. Awesome.

Our commercials during this show are pretty interesting. We get one for the Rock’s new movie (Gridiron Gang). I think it’s really odd seeing a WWE guy during the breaks of a TNA show. Also, the Covenant looks like it’s going to be REALLY good.

Next up is a typical Abyss squash, as he takes out Cassidy O’Riley. O’Riley seems to have grown out of his Raven phase. The line of the night goes to James Mitchell (and I’m paraphrasing) that when Don West speaks, “It’s as pleasurable as bobbing for apples in a colostomy bag!” He says that Abyss will accept the match with Runt. He then pours thumbtacks all over the red phone. ANSWER IT NOW, TENAY!!

LAX shows up to take on the tag team champs in a “Border Brawl” (awful name for a match). AJ and Daniels put up a little bit of a fight here, but Homicide brings home the win for LAX, and we have new champions. I hate the way that Styles and the Fallen Angel are being booked as chumps here. I understand the need to drop the titles to a heel team, especially if the rumors of Alex Shelley going face are true, but this wasn’t the way to do it. I really feel that the former champs have been booked like chumps. Not Cool.

Anyway, it was a decent show over all. I have to say, for such an emotional heel turn, Christian Cage is In The Zone.

See ya next week, when hopefully I can hear again.
