The 58th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards

Archive

Conan O’Brien is your host and TV’s best actors and shows, during primetime, get rewarded here tonight. Forget about the Daytime Soaps and their “stars”. This is when the BEST TV is on. So lets get to the show!

The 58th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards – (8/27/06)

Conan starts off in various parodies of certain shows. He is on a plane and headed to host the Emmy Awards for a second time. But then his plane crashes and he ends up “lost” on the island of ‘Lost’. Somehow this leads to him dropping through the “hatch” and falling right into the “office” of ‘The Office’. As he leaves, Conan gets a ’24’ moment. He then runs and asks for help from Hugh Laurie from ‘House’. Conan then becomes animated into the world of ‘South Park’. Next, he walks into a house where he’s in an episode of ‘Dateline NBC’ as an “Internet predator”. Finally, he runs away and ends up in Los Angeles for the Emmy Awards!

I won’t recap his opening speech as it’s most of the usual “TV jokes”. But best joke in his opening speech is..”since the Emmy Awards are on NBC this year, it will be cancelled halfway through!” Other things to mention. HBO is also the most nominated network with 95 nominations. The highest rated sitcom this year was CBS’s ‘Two and a Half Men’. I also like the joke about $50,000 gift card to the Olive Garden for the winners. That’s a prize for sure! More jokes about NBC and that leads to a musical number with Conan talking about the “trouble at NBC”. Pretty funny stuff actually. Time for the awards, though!

The first presenters are Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey from ‘Grey’s Anatomy’. By the way, I will be keeping track of the hottest women on the show. And Ellen starts us off on the right foot.

BUT WAIT..there’s more from me! What did I think of the awards? I liked Conan as the host for sure. I’m SHOCKED about the Barry Manilow thing, but I’m glad others made fun of him for winning. That was funny. I’m a little SHOCKED that ‘Grey’s Anatomy won no awards, but they had stiff competition. I’m happy ‘The Office’ won best comedy and ‘My Name is Earl’ won a few awards as well. Congrats to ’24’ and Kiefer Sutherland for finally getting the awards they deserve, but see above with ‘Grey’s Anatomy’! Funniest presenters were Tina Fey and Tracy Morgan. Rip-off of the year was Barry Manilow for sure!

And now I present to you…

The Top Five Hottest Women at the 2006 Primetime Emmy Awards

#5 – Jaime Pressley – Earl is a lucky man!
#4 – Katherine Heigl – Second-hottest doctor on TV!
#3 – Evangeline Lily – WOW! Kate from ‘Lost’ really cleans up!
#2 – Ellen Pompeo – I love you Meredith Grey!

And #1 – Eva Longoria – But Eva pulls this one out in a close one! Wait..just give me Ellen, Evangeline, AND Eva and I will be happy! My new favorite letter is ‘E’..by the way!

That’s all I got, except did you notice that the funniest and best stuff on this show came from people associated with NBC shows?! What channel was this show on? Oh yeah..NBC! Imagine that!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
