Murtzcellanious: LIVE Canadian Idol Recap – August 22

Results time.

Sue Brophy came out and introduced the judges and Ben Mulroney as per usual. I really should come up with some kind of short-form for that every week. Maybe just standard intro or something. Ben said that Monday’s audience was “bar none, the best crowd that this show has ever seen.” I disagreed.

The Top Five came out and the show began with a group performance along with Martina McBride. They sag “I Can’t Stop Loving You.” Tyler Lewis didn’t waste anytime during the song, as he immediately started touching McBride’s shoulder.

After the comme ci, comme ca performance, Ben said that 3.1 million votes were cast on Monday evening. He introduced a recap of the performances.

After the break, Martina McBride performed again, only this time it was by herself. The song was quite boring. The thing is that country ballads are great, but not in an Idol venue when the average age of attendance is 16 + Murtz.

After the song, McBride told Ben that her new CD involves covers of classic country songs. She said that this was music that she had “grown up on.” She also said that she was coming back to Toronto in March of next year.

My prediction for the bottom two was Chad and Steffi, with Chad going home. I think many in the audience had accepted that Steffi would be going home after what was a lackluster showing on Monday evening.

The show resumed and Ben began announcing Canada’s judgment.

STEFFI: BOTTOM 2
CRAIG: SAFE
TYLER: SAFE
EVA: BOTTOM 2!
CHAD: SAFE

Another shocking results as the two remaining females in the competition were both in the bottom, meaning that three guys had made the Final Four.

The show resumed and Ben asked the judges for their comments.

Zack: If I banged my head against the wall, that’s how I would have voted.

Jake: You have to have the most personality and the most charisma.

Sass: Ignore everybody and go with your heart.

Farley: (Referring to the judge’s choice theme for next week’s show). We picked songs that we think are extensions of what their talent base is.

Ben said that Steffi would be going home. Murtz was sad as Steffi had become my favourite over the past few weeks. But this did not dissuade me from the main point of tonight’s show.

CRAIG SHARPE HAD MADE THE FINAL FOUR. A PREDICTION THAT I MADE AFTER THE FIRST TOP 22 SHOW.

I was happy with myself and I believe that I am sticking with Craig to take this thing.

Anyway, Ben asked Steffi for her thoughts and she said that it had been the experience of a lifetime. She also said that “there would be no white flag above my door.”

Steffi sings “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’ as she walked out of Idol forever.

Show over.

See you next week.
