Canadian Idol – Recap – August 29

Archive

Ben opens the show letting us know there were 4.3 million votes cast. That is quite impressive. That can only mean good things for the show and …….Eva, which also means me and anyone who really cares about the singing. Then he reminds us that perplexing Rex will be singing later on. Quite frankly there are at least five from last season I’d rather hear than him. Namely the “Winner” Melissa “the Bomb” O’Neil. Ben then for the 1000th time introduces the fab four judges. We are “treated” to a recap of last night.

Then we get what could be a real treat; the final four singing together. We actually get see them sing the group song in the order they sang last night. The first three guys sang and then ….Wha? No Eva solo? Fear not! She got showcased big after the first group singing. But wait, that’s kind of scary. The last time that happened was last season when Daryl got the biggest part of the night and then he left. Ugh! The group song was pretty good but somebody was way out of tune and it didn’t sound female if you catch my drift.

Breaktime!

After the break, Ben introduces Rex and tells us that Rex’s CD went Platinum and presents him with his platinum plaque. Side Note: This is something I will never, never understand ever. Did I say never? How in the world Melissa’s CD is barely scraping gold and Rex’s goes platinum. Melissa O’Neil’s CD is THE BEST first offering Idol CD in history of any Idol, American or Canadian. Get real. Although this does kind of explain why Eva has made two appearances in the bottom two.

As for the singing and song…..I just don’t get it. The worst song on Melissa’s CD is 10 times better than that. So Rex, leave the singing to your girlfriend. Lucky you by the way.

Breaktime!

When we get back, we get another Elena moment. Have I ever said how hot she looks? She and the Idols do a skit for Miracle Whip where the Idols play judges of the food they taste and compare the taste of their particular sandwich to each judge on the show. Cute. But then again I love the Ford commercials on another Idol show too.

Now to the results. Switching it up tonight, Ben grills the judges before we know who’s in the bottom two, starting with Zack asking him if there’s anything he want to say to Craig.

Zack: “There’s many things I’ve said over and over again, but the fact is becoming a great artist and the artist you will be because you are unique, is like being a great father or husband. You know you’re in love but it takes maturity and time and devotion and technique. And you have all those things in you just gotta bring them out babies.” Translation: You’re not ready yet.

Ben asks Jake what he has to say to Chad.

Jake: “Chad, if you were in my office and you were a potential client for me, I’d be saying to you, you have a unique voice which means you have to sing your own words because your voice has to sing your words so keep doing what you’re doing and write songs.” Translation: You’re not ready yet.

Ben asks Sass for words for Tyler.

Sass: “Yeah Tyler you’re a really down to earth person with a lot of soul and a lot o heart and it really comes through when you’re singing. I’d say really concentrate on who you are and what you want to say and also ….Don’t take any advice from anybody…just be you.” Translation: You’re not ready yet.

Ben than leaves the Eva advice up to Farley.

Farley: “Eva I think you’ve got to think really big. I’m talking film, TV, and music. Integrate your career because you have potential to do phenomenally well in all three of those categories.” Translation: Sign right here on the dotted line. You’re really ready.

Ben now gets down to business and tells us that Eva and Craig……….are Safe! As I predicted and as it should be. That leaves Tyler and Chad in the bottom three. It’s so odd not to see Steffi there. Anyway, we know what that means……Breaktime!

Back from the break Ben lets Chad know he’s going home. Not a big surprise but now everyone has been in the bottom. We get Chad’s funeral video and he sings us out and customizes the words. But it’s really anti climatic in comparison to Steffi’s departure last week. Ben does make a great point about Chad. And that is, he came back after not making it last season and made it to the top 4. This should be a great inspiration to all who didn’t make it this season or even seasons before.

Ben let’s us know that next week is Standards week with Tony Bennett orchestrating the Idols. Where is Steffi when we need her?
