Rock Star: Supernova – Recap – Episode 2-17

Archive

It’s time for Rock Star, and I missed the opening. But I’m sure it went something like this: Brooke Burke introduces Supernova, and then Dave Navarro. After which she throws it to a

Reality Segment – After last Wednesday, Dilana still feels down after last Wednesday. She’s really upset about things, and flips out, which cuts Magni’s head. Dilana cries, and Storm comforts her. Toby thinks that she can’t handle the pressure.

Back in the theatre, Magni says that it’s just a flesh wound, and Dilana is determined to rock the house. Which means that we’ll now take a break.

Tonight it’s fan selection night, and that means another

Reality Segment – The singers get to find out what their songs are. Wild cards all around!

Lukas Rossi is first, and the fans chose Nirvana’s “Lithium” for him. He starts all acoustic-like, before kicking it. Which, oddly, isn’t really all that great. But the verses and bridge are really good, so it makes up for it and more, I guess.

Dave does his “I can’t believe you did that – it rocked” swerve. Apparently it still works on the singers. Tommy thinks that the music did the talking. Gilby and Jason also like it.

Magni gets Live’s “I Alone”. He does a pretty faithful version, but I dunno that a straight cover is what the “band” was looking for. But it probably helps that Magni looks like Ed Kowalcyk. Still, the energy was there, as Magni moves from the stage to the crowd to the judges stand. He does not, however, smash a guitar as promised last week. Ryan’s wussy guitar “smashing” probably killed the idea for the rest of the singers, I guess.

Tommy thinks that Magni should’ve went all the way to the back of the theatre. Magni notes that it’s dark, and he doesn’t want to hide his face.

Ryanna Star’s fan choice song is “Clocks” by Coldplay. And wow, that… sucked. No, I mean that really, really sucked. Ryanna starts out on the piano doing the bridge and then starts out singing… badly. She then hits overdrive at some point and forgots to slow down. Jason seems to agree, as Ryanna loses his intensity after coming our from behind the piano. Gilby thinks it’s good though. Dave, of course, has made Ryanna his Suzie McNeil for this year and is praising her to the heavens.

The fans somehow thought that Evanesence’s “Bring me to Life” would be good for Storm Large. With Toby’s help, she gives it a go, but her Cher-like voice clearly isn’t a good match for the song, but she does a decent job of it. Storm always brings the energy, you have to give her that.

Dave thinks she pulled it off despite the obvious fact that she’s not suited to the song. Gilby is all “meh”. Jason is all about the effort.

Toby Rand gets Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell”, and this was a great match. Awesome singing, and nice touch with the groupies. Rafael once again killed with a guitar solo. Dave likes the Toby’s spontaneousness and crowd interaction. Tommy thinks Toby should bring the girls back with him. Toby’s worried about their ages (a valid point nowadays)

The fans give Dilana some therapy by choosing Tracy Bonham’s “Mother, Mother” for her to sing. You’ll remember that Jill Gioia sang it kinda pop-like. Not Dilana – she kills it. All that drama and sorrow in the house is let out at all the right points in the song, and it’s killer.

Dave is happy that she let it out, and thinks that that was the best performance of BOTH seasons of Rock Star. Tommy notes that he’s the king of mistakes and he’s glad she’s moved on. Gilby and Jason also think that she rocked it.

It’s time for the early results… and the bottom three are Storm, Ryanna and Lukas. Maybe this is the week that they kick Lukas out… or crown him the One, two weeks early.

That’s it for tonight – results tomorrow.
