[WWE] ECW Deal Made & Ratings News

In a breaking news story that is likely a big relief for the WWE office and ECW roster, Vince McMahon and Bonnie Hammer — head of Sci Fi and USA — negotiated a deal to renew ECW on Sci Fi late this afternoon, according to Dave Meltzer of WrestlingObserver.com. The plan is for ECW — which has averaged a 2.3 cable rating despite projections of a 1.4 — to remain in the Tuesday 10pm timeslot, with a replay time to be determined. Meltzer expects an official announcement to be made before the end of the week.

According to PWInsider, last night’s ECW show got a 1.9 cable rating, with a 3 share, which is a 17% drop from last week’s 2.3. Due to RAW not being on USA Network in its normal timeslot this week, WWE was projecting a 25% drop in this week’s ECW rating because the feeling is that promoting ECW during RAW gives the new show a boost. The show did quarter hours of 1.9, 1.8, 1.7 and 1.9 with a 2.0 overrun.

PWInsider also reports that WWE was expecting a 25% ratings decrease for RAW as well, but the show’s rating on Sci Fi Monday night only dropped slightly to a 3.3 with a 5.1 share, with hours of 3.3 and 3.4. Interestingly enough, the overrun did only a 3.2, tied with the opening segment as the lowest quarter-hour of the night. The highest quarter hour was the 10pm slot which did a 3.5. The replay of RAW which aired after the US Open on USA Network did a 0.6 cable rating (2.5 share), with hours of 0.7 and 0.5 coming off of the 11pm – 12:38am US Open overrun which did a 2.0 (4.1 share). The replay started out with a 0.8 quarter hour, and decreased into the 0.5s from there.

In other ratings news, the 8/26 edition of AM Raw did a 1.0 cable rating, with a 4.4 share, and as previously reported, last week’s Smackdown did a 2.1 broadcast rating, with a 3.9 share.
