Big Brother 7 Recap – Episode 24 (August 31)

Archive

Tonight is not only the first ever double eviction episode, it’s also going to determine our final four. Chilltown has shown the ability to manipulate others into doing their bidding but given the short period of time between the next two evictions, Chilltown’s not going to have a lot of time to work their magic on their other houseguests, so who knows what may happen?

The show opens with Julie confirming that tonight there will be an eviction, an HoH competition, a veto competition and then a second eviction. But first some footage from the last couple days.

After the veto ceremony, Will and Boogie meet with Erika in the storage room. They tell her Chilltown moves like a ninja, with lightning quick strategy and talk about how nobody else knows about Erika’s secret Chilltown membership. Amusingly enough, they give an almost identical speech to Janelle when she comes in after Erika leaves. They talk about bringing George on board, joking about giving him the same speech. They do indeed induct George as an ‘honorary’ member of Chilltown but in the DR Boogie makes it clear they have no intention of honorary memberships.

Danielle is worried about going home this week but after both Will and Boogie assure her that she is safe, she says she feels better about her chances (Will, for his part, wonders in the DR if perhaps Danielle needs to be reintroduced to him if she truly thinks Chilltown’s say so makes her safe).

Julie tells the houseguests that this week’s live show will be unlike any previous one and refers to it as “Big Brother Fast Forward”. Also of note, George is dressed up in one of the flower suits from Tuesday, complete with red make up on his cheeks.

The houseguests cast their votes and, by a vote of 3-0, Danielle is evicted from the house. Unlike her nomination she takes her eviction well, giving hugs to the houseguests before telling them she’ll vote for the best player and urging them to ‘kick butt’. She gets a round of applause as she leaves the house.

Sitting down with Julie, Danielle admits she wasn’t so sure she was safe as she knows how Chilltown operates. Julie mentions how she didn’t see the game as personal in season 3 and asks why it is different now. Danielle watched the others on their seasons so she was fans of them so it made it more personal. Danielle also thinks she managed to redeem herself from season 3 as she played the game in a much more friendly fashion this time around. When asked by Julie who she’d like to see go by the end of the show, Danielle says she’d like to see Erika sent packing.

Goodbye messages are played for Danielle. Will and Boogie apologize for evicting her, with Will taking responsibility, Janelle and George say some nice things about Danielle as a person and a player and Erika begs for Danielle to vote for her if she makes it to the final two.

Danielle says that though she forgives Erika, she is baffled by her decision. Danielle says she had Erika’s back and if she thinks Janelle or Chilltown will have her back, she’s wrong.

This week’s HoH competition is called “Battle of the Sexes”. The four competitors are standing in a circle, separated into four segments so they can’t see each other. They are asked a series of questions about past events in the house with an answer of ‘male’ or ‘female’. The person with the most points at the end of eight questions wins.

Early on Will and Janelle are neck and neck but Will blows the fourth question and from that point on, it’s all Janelle as she doesn’t miss a single question. George, Will and Boogie all end up with six points but Janelle has eight so that makes her the new Head of Household.

Julie tells them that she will call them to the living room for the nomination ceremony in four minutes. At first it seems like everyone is just going to sit in the living room as they all head that way but after a few seconds Janelle and Will head to one of the bedrooms. There’s a lot of muffled whispering with the names Chicken George, Boogie and Erika mentioned quite a bit. It’s hard to make out exactly what is being said but it seems like Will wants Chicken George and Erika to go up, with Mike as a back-up nominee if necessary. I think.

We come back to a few more seconds of muffled whispering between Janelle and Will before Julie calls them to the living room for the nomination ceremony. George is already sitting on one of the nomination seats and when asked by Julie to move, he says he’s just used to being there.

Janelle seems a bit flustered but it seems more like she’s trying to make it look like her decision is hard and trying not to piss people off as she nominates Erika and George. The houseguests are told the veto competition is next.

The veto competition is called “I’m (k)not about veto” and it involves untying ropes. Each houseguest is attached to a pole by a lengthy rope. They have to undo two knots on the way to the pole which has the veto on it. Then they have to run down to the red zone, unhook themselves, take the veto and hit a buzzer.

For the first little bit there’s really just a lot of people untying knots. It’s not really an ideal competition for a live competition as without editing it’s hard to judge how people are doing and not very exciting either. Erika and Will eventually pull ahead, with Janelle not (or ‘knot’ in keeping with the lame punnery) that far behind. Mike and George don’t seem to be doing very well (Mike probably doesn’t want to win and George is George so it’s not surprising). Erika get untied and grabs her veto first but Will’s not far behind. It is close but Erika makes it to the buzzer first and wins the veto. Julie tells Erika she’ll have a few minutes to think about her decision before the veto ceremony but there’s not much doubt on this one.

As the veto ceremony begins, Julie asks if Erika would like to say anything. She doesn’t really have anything to say so just wishes everyone good luck and says ‘hi’ to her mom. And then she vetoes herself off the nomination block with Janelle putting Boogie up in her place.

Given a chance to plead their case, George says he already said his bit earlier and says that he thinks the best of everyone. Mike thanks his business partner for giving him a chance to come back on the show and then points out that George is a very sympathetic guy who could be tough to beat when it gets to the final two.

Will votes to evict George, as does Erika so by a vote of 2-0, George is gone. There are hugs all around and George tells everyone that he’s just happy to have lasted as long as he did. Everyone praises George on his way out the door.

Before the interview part, we see in the house that Will is thinking he may have broken his thumb and wants to see a doctor. In a worse turn of events, Janelle broke a nail! There is speculation amongst the four that someone may be coming back in given there are still two weeks left in the season. Erika notices that her picture, presumably due to a technical glitch, has been replaced by a black and white photo of Jase.

George tells Julie he’s excited to have made it as far as he did in the house. When asked by Julie if his being confused a lot in the house was strategy, George laughs and says it wasn’t. He points to the slop as having quite an impact on him. Julie asks about the outfits he’s been wearing all season and George figured he had a chance to be wild and crazy but also be himself and just have a good time, so that’s what he did. The interview ends with George getting some KFC, hand delivered by a guy dressed as the Colonel.

We are given a shot of the final four players left in the game as Julie talks about the upcoming shows. The next Head of Household competition as well as the veto ceremony are to take place on Sunday and there’ll be a special live eviction show next Tuesday to determine the final three.

I think I would have preferred to see Erika go home in George’s place but all in all, not a bad final four. It would seem Chilltown is sitting pretty right now with a secret alliance with both Erika and Janelle but Will did have to tip his hand a bit when he ran off to discuss the nominations with Janelle mid-episode so that might make Erika suspicious. Of everyone, Janelle’s probably in the worst position right now as she won’t be able to compete in the next HoH competition (assuming there’s no change in the HoH rules). There are scenarios in which she could make it to the final three but there are a lot more of them where she wouldn’t.
