MTV Mix – Volume 10

Archive, Features, Shows

Welcome to the second “double-stuffed” edition of the “MTV Mix”. I got a little busy towards the end of last week and I slacked up. Therefore, I will be bringing to you two weeks worth of shows on MTV this week. We had the debut of one show last week, but another show leaves us this week. So things continue to even out. Time to look at this mix!

MONDAY

‘Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Fresh Meat’

The recap for last week’s episode is here.

Yep..I am still in shock that Tina and Kenny are still in this game. They beat Theo and Chanda, but do you not think that the weight of the bags had something to do with Tina and Kenny winning? Okay, they did get the puzzle faster, which allowed them to drop their bags first, but still they got to the first puzzle faster since they had lighter bags. However, if Theo and Chanda would have solved the first puzzle quicker or even skip it and go along with their bags, they might have won. But since Tina and Kenny got the second puzzle right it might not have mattered. Props to Tina and Kenny, but I still can’t believe it.

So it’s down to Darrell and Aviv, Derrick and Diem, Wes and Casey, and Tina and Kenny. Three of them will be making it to the finals, while one gets eliminated. I didn’t pick this final four. In fact, there is only 1 team that I expected to be here at the beginning. I mean..Derrick and Diem, Wes and Casey, and Tina and Kenny were so weak at the challenges in the beginning. They still are, but they do extremely well in exile and that’s what matters most for thid show.

Darrell and Aviv should make it to the finals easily, but since I have been wrong before..they probably won’t. That will be a SUCKY final! Because if the final challenge is anything like the rest of the challenges..we will have nothing but slow and weak teams competing for the money. There is something wrong with that. I blame it on the “exile” format and it needs to be modified if it is to be used again. How? Well..for starters..the weight of the bags needs to be taken out. Or at least..don’t base it on what they brought to the island. That doesn’t make a lot of sense.

I predict that Tina and Kenny will slither into the finals to piss me off. I still say Darrell and Aviv win it all, especially if they make it to the finals.

The recap for this week’s episode is there.

And I was right! Tina and Kenny won the final challenge to make it to the finals to PISS me off! But Darrell and Aviv made it as well, so they should win the entire thing. They better win! I couldn’t take it if Tina and Kenny won!

As far as Diem not winning the money, it’s all a game. It’s not fixed. They sucked as a team for the most part and shouldn’t get a free ride into the finals. Still..they were better than Tina and Kenny AND Wes and Casey. But they are gone now.

The finals are set and you know who I want to win. If it ends any other way, you will hear A LOT of screaming from me. Although, I do have some respect for Wes and Casey winning all of the “exiles”. But they SUCK at everything else! Sadly, the previews for the finals hint that the weight of the bags will STILL play a factor in the final challenge. I hate this idea! Find out who wins next week!

‘MTV Cribs’

Last week, the first house in that episode belonged to rapper, Slim Thug. He has a 7,000 sq. ft. home and it’s located in Houston, TX. The house has 4 bedrooms, a pool, and a game room. The first room we saw is his office, where he does his business. Big chairs, laptops, and cigars gets work done around here. We take a quick look at his bedroom for the ladies and his bathroom. He spread out all of his jewelry onto the counter so that everyone can see it. It’s shiny and gold, of course. Slim Thug even plays the piano inside his home, while smoking a cigar. Time for the kitchen now where he does no cooking. A lot of liquids inside his refrigerator. He likes Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches and steaks. Oh..I like the second floor a lot. He has a sweet looking theater room. It’s different than any other room I have seen. It has a 107″ movie screen. He has another room where everyone “chills” at. I like that as well. We also learn that Slim is a handy man as he installed his own ceiling fans. He’s got a nice view from his home as well. I like the pool area and entire second floor as I said. His cars include a candy blue Cadillac convertible with spinning rims, a 1975 blue El Dorado, a blue low-rider motorcycle, and a blue Rolls Royce. His favorite color is blue if you couldn’t tell. The Rolls is a nice car for sure!

The next house belonged to Sean Avery from the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings. His house is in Los Angeles, CA as you might imagine. It is 1,900 sq. ft. and has 2 bedrooms, 2 1/2 bathrooms, and a deck. I can tell this house is not that big or special, since it’s main feature listed is a “deck”. Lets see, though. He starts with his car, which is a sweet black Bentley. “Black on black” rims along with everything else. Not too shabby. He shows us his mini-Stanley Cup trophy that he won in his rookie year with the Detroit Red Wings. He has an unique TV on the wall. But he can’t work it. He has two Neil Young albums that Neil signed and Sean treasures. He has a small, but clean kitchen. Inside his refrigerator, he has vitamin water and beer. Sugar-Free Jello as well. We go to the bedroom and he has a big, white bed with some sheets that aren’t made anymore. He has a desk he found at a flea market in his bedroom as well. There is a Bose radio that his iPod can hook up to..to get him ready for his games. Small bathroom with nothing special at all. Okay..his deck is my favorite park of his house. It has a few couches and a fire pit on it. AND..Elisha Cuthbert from the movie Girl Next Door among other things. That makes it pretty great as well! Enough said.

The last house on that episode belonged to Aly & AJ, those teenage sisters who are a pop singing sensation, especially with the “Disney” and “TRL” crowd. They live in Los Angeles, CA. Their house is 7,000 sq. ft. and has 4 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, and a salon. We first take a look at their music room with a piano for them to play. We learn that Aly has just graduated high school, so AJ has to do her homework alone now. We see their father, Mark, now. Hello daddy! Time for the look inside the refrigerator. They are Whole Foods fans. Healthy stuff I suppose. Yep..they take wheatgrass shots next. Holy cow..Aly fits inside a bottom cabinet inside the kitchen! We see Aly’s bedroom now and it’s a typical girl room. She has a big mirror. We see AJ’s room and I like her room better. AJ’s room has more light in it. But she has dead flowers from her boyfriend still in her room. They take us out to a deck where they bounce on “bounce” chairs. Seriously..they do! Time to see their salon, since they are girls. They get everything done here, which is every girl’s dream I imagine. Time to see the backyard with the pool. Not that big, but I like it. Best part of the house..by far! We see their mom, Carrie, now with their dogs. Finally, we see their cars. But they also have a low-rider bicycle they are auctioning off. Their dad has a Dodge Magnum Hemi. They call it a “Split-Second Bentley”, since it looks like a Bentley for a second. They are right. Sign me up! Their mom’s car is called “Sexy Beast”. It’s a GMC Denali SUV. Aly has a car as well. It’s a Mercedes Benz SL 550 Convertible. AJ can’t drive yet, so no car for her. They drive away to end this show!

This week, the first house in this episode belongs to R&B singer, Bobby Valentino. His home is in Atlanta, GA and it’s 6,500 sq. ft. It has 4 bedrooms, 3 1/2 bathrooms, and a pond. The first room we see has a piano and he plays it, while singing to his mama! We go to the kitchen and he eats some chicken. Inside of his refrigerator, there are bottles of wine and Mott’s applesauce. Bobby has a “Lil’ Jon Pimp Cup” as well. Bobby has a massage chair and an average living room at best. We go to his “shoe room” next, where all of his shoes are located at. Nothing blows me away here either. Next is the bedroom and it’s for the ladies with the fireplace and all. We see his sunglasses collection. Again, nothing that blows me away. He puts on his Polo bath robe and walks around in it like “Baby Hugh Hefner”. His jewelry is laid out on the bathroom sink as well. He loses points for originality there. He even has an average view of some woods. He has a pond, though, and that’s the best part of the house. His cars include a “black-on-black” BMW and a convertible. But nothing special at all about his house or cars. Failed in comparison with the others this season.

The next house in this episode belongs to Derrick Johnson of the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs. His house is in Kansas City, MO, of course, and it is 3,800 sq. ft. It has 2 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and a theatre room. There are three floors in his house. We see all of his awards including “Best Linebacker in the NCAA”. We go straight to the theatre room. Typical theatre and his favorite movies are Life and The Color Purple. Time for the kitchen. It’s too clean, because he doesn’t cook. Inside of his refrigerator and he has potato salad and Gatorade. Lots of “quick” stuff to eat. An average living room as well, except for the “Superman” mirror on the wall. That’s original. Time for the top floor and another trophy. We see his bedroom and it’s average. He does have a big closet. He even has some “Grillz”! Time for the cars and he has a red Range Rover and a black Cadillac convertible.

The final house belongs to John John Florence. This KID is a pro surfer. He must be like 14 or 15. WOW! His house has 2 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, an outdoor shower, and a beach out front. It’s in Oahu, HI, of course. We see all of his brothers and his mom. This house is crowded! We see all of his surfboards and surf stuff. Stuff he has collected around the world. Music collection now. The best part of the house is the beach outside! I want to be a surfer! More surfboards outside and the outdoor shower. But really this house was nothing, but he’s a kid with a mom so what did you expect? He ends this episode by “surfing” us out! Overall this entire episode was disappointing. I didn’t like a single house really.

And I think that’s how we end this season of ‘MTV Cribs’! Not a great way to end things, but it happens. So let me present to you the “Top Five” homes on this season of the show!

Best Homes on ‘MTV Cribs’ – Season 13

#5 – “Laird Hamilton and Gabrielle Reese” (Episode 2) – It’s in Hawaii..enough said! Too far away from the beach, though.

#4 – “Leah Remini” (Episode 1) – 10,000 sq. ft. with 9 bathrooms and an AWESOME pool! Plus, she’s hott!

#3 – “Slim Thug” (Episode 4) – Good house with a theatre room, but he has some of the BEST cars in this season!

#2 – “Juelz Santana” (Episode 3) – LOTS of TVs and a cool loft room that is secret to everyone else!

And #1 – “Carlos Mencia” (Episode 2) – 5,000 sq. ft. with an SWEET pool AND a nice theatre room! A LOVe all of his stuff in his home.

TUESDAY

Nothing last week here and nothing this week either. Some final ‘Real World’ stuff was aired like the “Reunion” show and the “Stuff They Should Have Shown” show. But next week, we get the debut of another new show on MTV called ‘Juvies’! It’s about juvenile delinquents. Should be interesting, so see you next week in this spot!

WEDNESDAY

‘Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County’

Last week, it was Tessa’s birthday. All she wanted to do was hang out with Chase on her birthday, since he is always busy with his music and they never get the time to hang out anymore. The rest of her friends had other ideas, though. They thought it would be great to throw Tessa a surprise party. Tessa’s best friend, Raquel, talks to Chase and his band will be playing at the party. Tessa has no idea what is going on. And the word of the day is “rage” as in “this party is going to ‘rage'”, which is said by Chase way TOO many times in this episode. To make things more interesting, Raquel tells Tessa that Chase can’t come to her party.

Kyndra and Jessica continue to like Cameron at the same time. Kyndra and Cameron go on a date. Jessica and her mom do the same. Jessica’s mom tells her to learn something from Kristin and not be too worried about whether guys like you or not. She tells Jessica to “not get too involved”. Meanwhile, Kyndra and Cameron exchange goofy looks and say how much they like hanging out together. Cameron tells Kyndra that he is not dating Jessica. He just “hooked up” with her one night, but he’s not with her.

Chase and Tessa spend some time together before her birthday. Chase still pretends he is too busy with his music to go to her birthday party. They talk about how Chase and his band are getting more famous now. They are just friends, but you know how that goes. Don’t get me started on that. Raquel feels that Chase and Tessa belong together. And there are hints that they could be “more than friends”, but as I said that’s a tricky issue.

Did I mention that Kyndra and Cami plan to “crash” Tessa’s birthday party? Why? Well..Cameron is going to be there and that’s a good enough reason to go. They weren’t invited, though. But it evens things up from past week so there you go. The party gets started and it’s raging! There is Kyndra and Cami and there are A LOT of people here. Tessa still doesn’t know about the party and she is SHOCKED! Raquel says that Tessa looked like “she walked into the wrong house”. She is happy to see Chase and everyone else, of course.

This week, Raquel is throwing a party with a Christmas theme I believe. Is this show going to be like ‘The Hills’ and every episode will have some kind of party or celebration? It seems like it. The reason for this party was not explained, but it doesn’t matter. Tessa and Raquel have this party and we meet Raquel’s new boyfriend, Alex.

Of course, Cami and Kyndra decide to “crash” Raquel’s party. They act like this is the best thing in the world, but haven’t we seen this in all three episodes of this show so far? First, Kyndra throws a party and invites Tessa, but not Raquel. Raquel really “crashes” their party, since she wasn’t invited. The next episode it was Tessa’s birthday, see above. Cami and Kyndra go to that party without an invitation. The same thing happens here, except this time they drag people away from this party. Kyndra convinces Cameron and some other people to bail from this party and go have fun elsewhere. Did I mention that they also caused unnesscary drama while they were there? Yep, they yelled at some chick for thinking that she said something bad about Cami. Stupid girls.

Later, Kyndra and Cami have a party of their own. They talk about how they are “even” know, which is basically what I said above. But they aren’t that even. Raquel doesn’t want to “crash” this party, though. She would rather go on a date with Alex, and that’s what she does. She later tells Tessa that she had a wonderful time with Alex. Tessa complains that she wants to go on a date. Don’t we all?

Cameron comes to Kyndra’s party. He gets a call from Jessica, and he goes to say hi to her. Kyndra is not happy. Meanwhile, Cami can’t SHUT UP! She is STILL talking about the stuff that happened at Raquel’s party. Finally, someone tells her to stop telling the same story over and over again, which is pretty funny!

At the end of this episode, Cameron and Jessica go out to lunch. At Kyndra’s party, he was all mad when everyone said he was going out with Jessica. Then, he becomes super-pissed at Kyndra and leaves her party to be with Jessica and when he is with Jessica, he seemed happy. So who knows what he is thinking, but Kyndra says that Jessica can have Cameron. “She is so over it!”

Lets take note here. I can’t stand Cami as she has a GIANT mouth and seems fake to me. Kyndra is only slightly better, but she’s the “evil queen”. I can handle the “evil queen”, but usually the best friend to the “evil queen” is annoying. No exception here. Cameron is retarded, but Jessica is better than Kyndra. Not much better, but still. I like Tessa, but that could change. I need to see more Breanna and Lauren, which should be coming soon. The others have not gotten much screen time, so I can’t state my opinion on them. That’s all for now.

‘Two-a-Days’

Last week, we got the debut of a new show called ‘Two-a-Days’. It’s about a high school football team in Hoover, Alabama. This is the South and since I’m from the South, I know exactly what they are talking about. High school football is the BIGGEST thing in these smaller Southern towns. The whole city comes to the games on Friday nights. Stores close, so that the employees can go to the games. But this school is different. It’s one of the top teams in the nation. The Hoover High Buccaneers are ranked #2 in the nation going into this 2005 football season. They are chasing after their fourth state championship in five years. MTV follows their season, which includes football games but deals with off-the-field drama as well. The name of the show comes from the fact that the football team practices two times a day. One before school and one after school.

Time to take a look at the main players on this show. We have Alex (#34), a senior saftey and co-captain of the team. He also likes to play pranks as he gets back at a girl in his pottery class named Jamie. He steals her backpack and locks it onto a stool. She has to carry it around the entire day as a result. Max (#24) is the other senior safety and he was one of the star players last year. However, he struggles to start off the season after recovering from shoulder surgery. Repete (#91) is a defensive lineman and the team’s trash-talker. His family moved to Hoover, just so Repete can play for this team. He had a better chance to get a college scholarship here than any place else. Finally, Ross (#14) is the junior quarterback. He has big shoes to follow as his older brother led this team to a state championship back in 2002 and is now the quarterback at the University of Alabama. The coaches include head coach, Rush Propst, and defensive coordinator, Jeremy Pruitt. They do a lot of yelling at the players, as you might imagine. Everyone wants to win and that’s most the talk to start off with. They work hard to win. Losing is not an option.

We start off with our first issue. That’s girls. Alex is dating a varisty cheerleader named Kristin. She feels they were meant to be together. Max is dating Anna, who is a year older and it going to Auburn University right now. Typical high school relationships. They think they are going to be together FOREVER!

The second issue is parents and players. Max has a stepfather, Jim, who watches him practice. He, along with his coaches, were disappointed in how Max practiced. The parents are usually reliving their days as players themselves or just high school in general.

Their first game this season is against Nease High School from Flordia. They are one of the top teams in Florida and this game is so big that it is being played on Saturday night and being aired on ESPN. Yeah..the teams have to be good if this high school game is on ESPN. This is the biggest game in Alabama high school football history! The coaches think they have a lot of work to do to be able to beat Nease. A lot of players getting hurt and throwing up. They all want to win, though. They want to be perfect. If they aren’t perfect, then it will be a disappointment for everyone.

Before the game, the team is locked away in a hotel to avoid distractions. That’s when the rumors start floating around. The rumor is that Alex has been seeing another girl at school named Keagan. Is the rumor true? Possibly. We don’t get a real answer. But it seems like it’s true. Keagan paints Alex’s number on her back for the game and that leads to trouble. The whole stands were talking about Alex and Keagan and Kristin during the game.

As for the game, it’s a close one. Hoover takes an early 7-0 lead in the 1st quarter, but the game is far from over. They jump out to a 14-0, but that quickly goes away as Nease comes back to lead 16-14 at Halftime. That’s all due to mistakes made by Ross including fumbles and interceptions and injuries, caused by heat cramps, to Alex and Max. This goes to 22-14 until Hoover gets a touchdown to make it 22-21. Nease answers right back for a 29-21 lead. Ross throws a touchdown and a two-point conversion soon afterwards to make it 29-29 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Hoover takes the lead back at 36-29 and it’s to their defense to stop Nease. And they do just that as they win with that final score by stopping Nease short of a first down. Alex and the team celebrate, but trouble is brewing for Alex in the stands. Alex wants to hug Kristin after the game, but she pushes him away. His parents and Kristin’s parents want to talk to them after the game and we will have to wait to see what happens next week.

This week, we pick up where we left off last week, and above. Alex and Kristin break up. Why? Not because Kristin thinks he was cheating on her with Keagan, but because he lied to her about hanging out with her. Alex tells us that Keagan came over one day to help him with a project, but they didn’t do anything. Rumors started from there, though, and you know what rumors can do. Keagan says she doesn’t feel bad about Kristin and Alex breaking up, so you know what that means.

Kristin talks to her friend, Blair, about all of this. And let me say one thing right here. Blair is so cute, it makes me sick. The way she talks is what makes her really cute, though. Anyways, back to the subject at hand. Blair thinks they will probably get back together eventually, but she can’t rush things. They both wonder who Kristin will take to the Homecoming dance if her and Alex are not back together by then. Later, we learn that Goose (#90), a defensive tackle on the football team, likes Kristin. Kristin thinks of Goose as a GREAT friend. Imagine that. Friends! But there is this vibe of being more than friends down the road. Kristin keeps saying that she would like to go to the dance with Goose, since she would have fun with him. Goose wants more, but you don’t know what Kristin is thinking. That’s a typical girl for you!

Hoover plays one of their most hated rivals, Spain Park, this week. They have another hard week of practice, but Alex can’t stop thinking about making Kristin cry. Coach Propst doesn’t care, as he wants to win. Alex later says that he doesn’t care if Goose and Kristin go out. That’s up to them. Meanwhile, Ross struggles with turnovers in practice. He can’t afford to keep making these mistakes in games, though. His older brother, John Parker, comes down to visit with him before the big game. He tells Ross that they can’t lose to Spain Park this week.

We take a look at a new player this week. His name is Bryan (#74), an offensive tackle for Hoover and co-captain. He likes singing and playing instruments. He thinks football and music make him a well-rounded person. After the football season, he’s on the band. That makes for an interesting combination for sure.

As for the game this week, the two teams traded interceptions to start the game. Hoover took advantage to jump out to a 14-0 lead, though. Another turnover by Spain Park and it’s 17-0. But Spain Park comes back to make it 17-10. Ross continues to have problems, but the defense comes through again in the end. Hoover wins by the score of 24-10! Everyone is glad about that.

This will be interesting to see if Hoover can stay undefeated each week. I like this show, but I’m a sucker for “sports” show. This is like the upcoming ‘Friday Night Lights’ on NBC, but this is a REAL high school. Some of the high school drama stuff may get a little annoying to some, but I’m used to it! This school was just like my high school, so I can relate to it. Another reason why I like this show.

THURSDAY

‘Wild ‘N Out’

Last week’s guest was Andy Milonakis. He leads the black team, which consists of Affion Crockett, Katt Williams, Cameron Goodman, Leonard Robinson, Mikey Day, and Randall Park. The red team is Nick Cannon along with Taran Killam, Deray Davis, Shawty, Corey Holcomb, Spanky Hayes, and Nyima Funk.

The first round was called “Pillow Talk”. Two teams members will act like two famous being a couple and getting ready “make love”. This is the talk right before that moment. I say Mikey Day wins this round and the black team dominates to win overall! Runner-up goes to Affion Crockett for his Napoleon Dynamite impression.

The second round was called “Tore Up From the Floor Up”. Two members of each team will comment on members of the audience as they come out in the latest fashions. Corey and Spanky are going for the red team and Andy and Leonard are going for the black team. I say red team wins this round and the winner is Corey Holcomb with lines like..”we could play spades on her back” and “she was a Wild N’ Out girl when Smokey Robinson was the host”!

The third round was called “R & Beef”. The teams make up an R&B song on the spot based on suggestions from the audience. The red team has to make a song dealing with “illegitimate children”, while the black team deals with “teachers sleeping with students”. This was close and I have to give it a tie. Affion Crockett and Katt Williams with the start on the black team was just too funny. But Corey Holcomb and Deray Davis were equally funny with their verses for the red team.

The final round was “WildStyle”. Both teams freestyle rap against each other. The black team gets a little help from Field Mob, who is performing later in the show. It doesn’t help as Nick Cannon finally carries his team and wins this round and the show for the red team. Runner-up goes to Affion Crockett on the black team. As far as MVP for this show, that goes to Corey Holcomb!

This week, there was no new episode of this show due to the airing of the ‘2006 MTV VMA Awards’. The show will be back next week, though.

‘Pimp My Ride’

Xzibit helped John last week. He has a 1968 Mercury Cougar. This car was passed around his family and now it’s his. The first thing you will see is that there is no hood on his car. He also has one spinning rim. Just one! The car can only go 40 mph as well, which sucks for other drivers behind him. To start up the car, that’s a three-step process. That includes putting the key into the ignition, pushing a button, and THEN getting out of the car and starting it with wires. That’s certainly unique.

Xzibit notices that there is a note on the back of this car. It says he has no brake lights. Seriously, it says that. Xzibit is also amazed with the one spinning rim. He tells everyone to stop buying Auto Zone spinners. John tells Xzibit his story of his hood flying off on the freeway. He played “Frogger” to retrieve the thing, which Xzibit finds crazy.

The GAS crew get to work. They use black and yellow for the color, which look really nice. The same colors for the inside as well. Mad Mike installs a huge projector that will fit in his trunk. It unfolds to form the biggest movie screen EVER! There is no need for a screen that big, but there it is. There is also a fiberglass headboard being installed with 9 TV monitors inside of it. That’s right, you look up and there are the monitors and speakers. Roush racing engine is also installed. It becomes a muscle car again.

The best part of this car is the color on the outside and the monitors up in the headboard. I don’t know about the whole projector and the “blimp screen” that comes out of the trunk. You don’t really need it, but since they can do it why not. Xzibit adds to the madness with a X-Box 360 that fits nicely with the HUGE screen.

This week, there was no new episode of this show due to the airing of the ‘2006 MTV VMA Awards’. The show will be back next week, though.

And that ends the 10th volume of the “MTV Mix”! If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or feedback of any kind..send them my way!!

I’ll see you next week when we mix things up a bit!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
