The Weekly Pulse: TV's Second Wife

Archive

The Emmy Awards were on earlier this week and I did the recap. So if you missed it, go read the results and become informed. Now you probably didn’t agree with all of the winners. You may have not liked ANY of the winners. I’m going to give you a chance to fix that. YOU get to vote on who SHOULD have won an Emmy Award this year. More on that later in this column.

Random Thoughts on Random Shows

‘Celebrity Duets’

I watched this new “filler” reality TV show on FOX the other day and it’s a cross between ‘American Idol’ and ‘Dancing with the Stars’, if that makes any sense. Basically, they take celebrities who think they can sing and pair them with famous singers. While I don’t like all of the singers nor some of the celebrities, it’s an interesting idea. But has Little Richard lost his mind?! Wait..he has always been like that. Does anyone know what he is saying? Me neither! I can see people tuning in to see what he will say next. It can get annoying, though. As for the celebrities singing, they are mostly good but some have no chance of winning. I’m a little surprised that Chris Jericho was the first one to get eliminated! I don’t think he would have won, but I thought Carly Patterson was the weakest singer here. Jericho was in my “bottom three”, though. I think Cheech and Carly are the next ones to go. Lucy and Lea are above them and my “top three” is Alfonso, Hal, and Jai. I didn’t know who Jai was before this show, but he can sing. He is one of the frontrunners, but I want Alfonso to win it all and I think he has a great chance. I was surprised at how good Hal could sing, though. I have to say that Wayne Brady is 10 TIMES better than Regis as a host as well. And that’s all I got for this show this week.

‘Justice’

Another new show from FOX. This is a legal drama. You might have read the interview that Romo did with Kerr Smith and Rebecca Mader, stars of the show. If not, keep reading. I plug it many more times in this column. As for the first episode of this show, I enjoyed it. It was fairly entertaining. Although, if they stick with the same formula each week it could get old really fast. I’m sure that they will mix up things and have TNT & G not win every week. And if they do win, hopefully some of the people won’t turn out to be innocent. That’s the only way this show will last long. All the characters on the show are likable enough, so that’s a positive. Mix things up and this show could make it to next season. If things get stale, then this show gets chopped off by the beginning of next year.

‘Big Brother 7: All-Stars’

We start off with Erika becoming the “HOH” and the week went just as I thought it would go. She put up Janelle and George, since she wanted to get Janelle out of the house. She told Danielle she was safe. But Mike and Will work their magic. They want to be in with Erika, but want Janelle to stay in the house since she is a bigger target than them. So they try and fix it where Janelle wins “POV”. Janelle is just good that she wins it on her own. She comes off and Danielle goes up? Why? “Chill Town II” does the same thing they did the past three eliminations. They get ready to “backdoor” someone by playing with the mind of the current “HOH”. I would be shocked if Danielle didn’t go home. In fact, it’s a guarantee. 3-0..Danielle is out! The week would have finished as I saw it at the beginning, but then ‘Big Brother’ just had to twist things up and have ‘Big Brother: FastForward’! I liked this idea as it gave no one any time to talk to others. They had to make decisions on the spot. And really George leaving was the next person I saw leaving. So the final four is set. Will, Mike, Janelle, and Erika. Will and Janelle have a “showmance”. Mike and Erika have a “showmance”. Will and Mike clearly want to make it to the final two. We know Janelle is going to turn on Will. Now is the time, if she is for sure. I don’t know if Erika thinks the same way as Janelle or if she thinks it will be Mike and her in the end? Whoever wins the next “HOH” on Sunday will win the BIGGEST “HOH” ever. That will tell you who is going to make it to the finals.

Now lets take a look at what else has been going on this past week at IPTV!!

Seinfeld Quote of the Week

“Cable boy..cable boy..what have you done to my little cable boy?!?!”Kramer talking about Jerry from Season Two’s “The Baby Shower”

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming…

Columns a.k.a. The Usual Along with Some Extras!!!

Mathan Erhardt might watch ‘Survivor’ this year since he’s interested in how the tribes being divided by race plays out. This week he comments on ‘Psych’, ‘Monk’, ‘Entourage’, ‘Eureka’, ‘Monkey Dust’, ’30 Days’, ‘Brotherhood’, ‘Life on Mars’, ‘Deadwood’, ‘Saved’, and ‘Weeds’. Four of eleven again this week and I will be interested in seeing how things change when the Fall season comes. He also finally gets around to reviewing the third season of ‘Chappelle’s Show’!

Kevin Wong was a little late last week, but he had to comment on the upcoming ‘Survivor’ season that is already creating controversy. Read all about that first, and then read this week’s edition of “In Hindsight”. Kevin has a theory that the new NBC show, ‘Heroes’ is actually three popular shows rolled into one! Check that out for sure!

Matt Basilo ends his summer with his reviews of the finales of ‘The Dead Zone’ and ‘The 4400’! He didn’t want these shows to end. Why? Well, you’ll have to read to find out! I can’t tell you everything.

Romo has a special interview with two stars of one of FOX’s newest shows, ‘Justice’. He sat down with Kerr Smith and Rebecca Mader and gives you the scoop on this new legal drama. You won’t want to miss that!

Recaps a.k.a. Back to School We Go!!!

Trevor MacKay spends another Thursday night in the ‘Big Brother 7: All-Stars’ house!

Murtz was again there LIVE last week to watch another person get eliminated from ‘Canadian Idol’! He is back this week to see the remaining singers, sing for their futures!

I do triple duty this week as far as recaps go! I had a busy Sunday night with ‘Big Brother 7’ and then ‘The 58th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards’! I followed that up with the second to last episode of the ‘Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Fresh Meat’! The finals are set!

Kevin Wong watches Canada’s “best” singers try to become the next idol on this week’s “performance” episode of ‘Canadian Idol’. He also does the ‘Rock Star: Supernova’ two-step with recaps of the Tuesday and Wednesday night episodes!

Richard Mauntah has the Tuesday night episode of ‘Big Brother 7: All-Stars’1

Ed Hampton sees another person get eliminated from ‘Canadian Idol’!

This week we had 7 TV on DVD reviews!

Steve Murray gets animated with The Simpsons – Season 8!

I laugh at Richard Pryor: LIVE in Concert!

Robert Sutton does THREE this week! First, he takes a look at a HBO miniseries called Elizabeth I. Does it live up to the quality programming standards that HBO has become known for? Find out and then take a look at his review of another horror show. This one is Masters of Horror: Dario Argento – Jenifer! Finally, he goes back to his childhood days when he reviewed TaleSpin – Volume 1!

Scott Keith rants on Arrested Development – Seasons 2 and 3! Yes, he had a marthon session of watching that show. Find out if he enjoyed that or not!

Mike Noyes likes prison action. He reviews Oz: Season 6!

No Celebrities and NOTHING Else This Week!!

Nothing to put here, but we did have a special interview from Romo and two stars of ‘Justice’ as I mentioned above. So that’s something, I suppose.

The Weekly Pulse Weekly Poll

The last two weeks..I asked the question…“which new show are you looking forward to the most this Fall?”. And here are the results:

The Class (CBS) – 0
Heroes (NBC) – 4
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (NBC) – 2
Vanished (FOX) – 0
Six Degrees (ABC) – 0
The Knights of Pros-perity(ABC) – 0
Help Me Help You (ABC) – 0
Smith (CBS) – 0
Friday Night Lights (NBC) – 0
Standoff (FOX) – 0
The Nine (ABC) – 0
Day Break (ABC) – 0
Jericho (CBS) – 1
20 Good Years (NBC) – 2
30 Rock (NBC) – 1
Kidnapped (NBC) – 0
Justice (FOX) – 1
Runaway (THE CW) – 0
Shark (CBS) – 0
Ugly Betty (ABC) – 0
‘Til Death (FOX) – 0
Happy Hour (FOX) – 0
Brothers and Sisters (ABC) – 0
Men in Trees (ABC) – 0

Lots of choices here, but one show rose above the rest. ‘Heroes’ is your winner and I’m not surprised! It’s about superheroes, they have made a comeback in popularity lately. ‘Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip’ and ’20 Good Years’ tied for second. Both comedies and I should mention the top three vote-getters are all on NBC. Maybe because NBC has been marketing their new shows better or maybe there is just more of them so they will grab a bigger percentage of newer shows.

For this week’s poll, keep reading. It’s a bunch of polls in one post. So keep reading on what the questions are and how you can vote on them!

Time to Talk a.k.a. Who SHOULD Have Won the Emmys?!?!?!

You may have watched the ‘2006 Primetime Emmy Awards’ earlier this week. If you didn’t, you probably still know who won the main awards. If you don’t even know that, then go here. I’ll wait until you come back. Seriously, go now. I’ll still be here..waiting for you. You back yet? You haven’t even gone yet?! GO NOW! Okay, you back? Good. Lets move on then.

You now know who won the main Emmy Awards on TV’s biggest night. You may agree with some of the winners, but you probably disagree with others. I’m giving you a chance to change that. I want to know who you think SHOULD have won an Emmy this year!

Here is how this will work. I will take all of the main awards like “best drama”, “best comedy”, “best actors and actresses in comedy and drama”, etc. and put all of the official nominees into a poll. I may even add a few nominees, if I felt they deserved to be there. Then, I will ask you to vote for who or what show SHOULD have won the Emmy? It may be the same person or show that won, but it might not be. Sound like a good idea? Thank you very much.

The polls are UP now! You can go and vote now. This is your opportunity to tell everyone who or what is really the best thing on TV today. A few more rules, though. This is based on the 2005-2006 TV season. From September 05′ to May 06′. And if you don’t see someone or some show that you think deserves to be on the nomination list, write them in. Just reply or e-mail me and tell me they should be there. Maybe others will agree with you and the “write-ins” can win that way.

One last time, just go here and VOTE! It’s your chance to make things right.

That’s all I got this week! Any questions, comments, or suggestions are always welcome, of course! Whether that be telling me who should have won an Emmy Award this year or anything else!

Remember..“Life Ain’t Always Beautiful, but It’s a Beautiful Ride!”

And as always…“You Can’t Fight Fate!”. See you next week!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
