Rock Star: Supernova – Recap – Episode 2-20

Archive

It’s Elimination Night, and Brooke Burke reintroduces the Final Five. It’s up to Gilby Clarke, Jason Newsted and Tommy Lee to eliminate one of the singers. And it’ll be even harder for Tommy as he just got back from a Motley Crue/Aerosmith concert, which presumably he was playing in. And of course, here’s Dave Navarro, who congratulates Brooke on her pregnancy and we find out that it is, in fact, a girl.

Let Us Take You Back To Last Night when the rockers sang a two-song set.

Dave thought last night was great because of the originals. Lukas was glad to share a bit of his life with the audience. Toby was a “happy little campa” to play both his stuff and Supernova’s stuff during his time here. He then thanks the young girls, and then tells an adoring fan “in ten years” when she asks him to sleep with her.

New song time, and Magni gets the honours for “It’s All Love”. And perhaps it’s a bit of foreshadowing, but of the Final Five, only Storm hasn’t sung a Supernova song yet.

So now we go to the encore. Toby Rand gets the encore for the second week in a row, singing “Throw it Away”, which is destined to be known as the “Uh-oh-ah-oh” song. He dedicates the encore to the late Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin.

Bottom three time. Everybody was in the bottom three at some point in the night! And we get an ad break to ponder this.

The first member of the bottom three is Storm Large. Last week she went high energy with “Helter Skelter”, and this week she switches it up by singing Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here”, which is sweet, soulful, and nowhere near as creepy as when Marty sang it last season. Storm dedicates the song to her mum.

The second member of the bottom three is Dilana, who actually speeds up the already fast song “I Want You To Want Me” by Cheap Trick. I think Lindsay Lohan (or some other young actor) did a cover of this recently, which somewhat kills it for me, but Dilana is seriously trying to rock out on one leg, and that definitely earns my respect. The “band” gives her a standing ovation.

Toby, Magni and Lukas play Rock, Paper, Scissors to see who is the final member of the bottom three. I don’t think it works that way guys.

The final member of the bottom three is… not Magni. It is actually not Toby, either, meaning that the third member of the bottom three is Lukas Rossi. He decides to go the Zayra Alvarez route of repeating a song he just sang, doing “Head Spin” one more time. Now there’s one confident bugger.

Elimination time. Gilby likes that Storm changed up [the tempo of] her performances last night. Dilana has been the one to watch since the beginning, and for Lukas, this was his first time in the bottom three, but tonight is his night and he’s safe!

So we go to the Hatchet Man, and Tommy loves Dilana and Storm too much to do this, so Jason gets to do the honours. Jason notes that the women put on incredible, fantastic performances. He respects both of them, but the show’s format means that someone has to go home… and that person is Storm.

Dave lets Storm know that he truly respects what Storm is doing, and that his performance with her was indeed his favourite one over the two seasons. And somehow this leads to both Dave and the “band” volunteering to back her when she goes to the recording studio.

The Final Four appear onstage, as we learn that the finale will be in two parts, with one more viewer vote on Tuesday.
