[WWE] ECW Ratings, Shows Cancelled, Vince Apologizes

News

– For those of you upset that Matt Striker might have gone a little too far with his Steve Irwin comment, Vince McMahon has an apology for you on WWE.com:

“We at WWE apologize for the remark alluding to the death of Steve Irwin which was made on ECW on Sci Fi Tuesday night. The remark was, in the least, disrespectful to Mr. Irwin’s fans and family.”

– The 9/5 edition of ECW of SciFi landed a 2.1 rating with a 3 share, up from last week’s dismal 1.9. Despite DX headlining the show, it still got a rating below it’s average of 2.2 and 2.3. Excuses include following Labor Day weekend and RAW’s numbers were down as well. Quarter hours were 1.8, 2.0, 2.0 2.2 and 2.4 for the over-run. We can also expect replays of ECW on SciFi to begin airing soon thanks to the new deal with NBC Universal.

– The 9/2 edition of AM RAW scored a 1.1 with a 4.8 share.

– According to the Israeli producer of Smackdown! shows, Assi Vaaknin, the planned Smackdown! tour of Israel has been cancelled. He recently told newspapers the reason is that no insurance company has agreed to insure the wrestlers. Fans have already started receiving refunds from the ticket agency.

– Kurt Angle has been removed from the ECW roster page, with Hardcore Holly, Matt Striker, Christopher W. Anderson, Francine and Terry Funk getting new pictures on red background (thanks to CaptainSpaulding from our reader forums for that). Shannon Moore, Rene Dupree and the Bashams (Paul Heyman’s security force) still do not yet have profiles posted to the “Extremists” roster page, despite appearing regularly on ECW TV.
