The Ultimate Fighter 4: The Comeback – Episode 4

Results

Tonight’s episode begins with a recap of Chris Lytle’s quick disposal of Pete Spratt. Team Mojo is happy to keep the ball in their court. They are thinking about their next middleweight matchup and Patrick Cote wants to fight next. Team No Love does their best to guess the next fight. Jorge thinks Cote will pick him. Travis thinks Cote will pick him. Charles thinks Cote will pick him. These guys were meant to be on the same team, they all think alike. Chris Lytle believes one more win will sink the Team No Love ship.

The guys are sitting around the house and the suspense over who will fight next is consuming Team No Love. Pete Sell is grilled by Da Blue Guys but won’t bite on the bait. Travis goes as far as calling Pete a bitch. Pete admits he isn’t familiar with Travis’ sense of humor and was caught off-guard by the comment. Pete even said he was a little offended by it. Now Pete wants to fight Travis to defend his honor and to clarify that he, in fact, is no one’s bitch.

What’s That On Your Face?

Scott Smith is making it do what it do in the shower and notices a rash near his armpit. He talks to the others about it and finds out some of them have similar outbreaks. One is Pete Sell, who has a little sumthin-sumthin on his toe. Pete and Scott head to the hospital to get checked out. They are diagnosed with staph infections. Matt Serra is worried about it being on the mats. They don’t look as if they have been cleaned and Randy Couture says its a breeding ground for bacteria. Dana objects and says they keep their mats as clean as they can be. He hypothesizes that someone brought the staph with them.

Matt Serra and Pete Sell have a history with each other. Matt has been working with Pete since Pete was 17 and they remain close friends. Pete Sell tells Matt he wants to fight Travis after the name-calling. Matt wants him to stick with the plan and fight Charles McCarthy, who Matt feels is a better fight. This could all be moot if Team Mojo doesn’t get their fungus situation solved.

A Trip to the YMCA

Jeremy Jackson tells Din he’s been sleeping in his car for the last six months. He says it’s not the first time he’s pulled slumber in his sedan. Every time Jackson thinks he’s in a good situation, the girl he is with kicks him out of the house. Din sees a pattern in this and thinks Jeremy can correct his problem. Jeremy wants to use this show to change his life.

Georges St. Pierre gets a wild idea to take the guys to the YMCA. Although not mentioned, I’m sure it’s a diversion from the training center so they can have it de-fungused. Jeremy enjoys the change of scenery and befriends the female lifeguard on duty. He covertly invites her to the house and is scheduled to meet her around midnight. That my friends is a booty call.

Jeremy had planned to make sweet love down by the fire, but that plan didn’t look like it was going to work. Jeremy claims the guys are never around the fire at night. I guess Jeremy is still in the dark on the secret firepit meetings, but then again, that’s the point. With the major cockfest happening around the fire, Jeremy reverts to Plan B. Some of the guys start leaving for bed so Jeremy says he needs to pee and heads for the bushes. Funny, the “I have to pee” strategy was the same thing I used when my Dad/brother would go for the ground and pound on me when I was younger. Lesson: When backed into a corner, scream that you will pee on them. Jeremy does in fact escape the premises and presumably meets up with his lifeguard.

The Walk of Shame

Rich answers the phone the next morning and is told that training has been put on hold. The guys are all told to stay in the house and await further instruction. The guys are wondering what is going on and word is spreading about Jeremy’s rendezvous. They find out that Jeremy hooked up with the lifeguard and have a laugh about it. Jeremy is remaining calm but feels a little nervous about the impending arrival of Dana White. Din jokes that all the guys flee from Jeremy like roaches when the lights are turned on when Dana walks up to the door.

Dana says that Jeremy violated the rules. Dana gives them a speech about having to sacrifice for great opportunity, then says he isn’t here to give a speech. Dana looks at Jeremy and tells him to pack his bags and go home. That was rather blunt. Jeremy says goodbye to the guys and says he’s going home, wherever home is. He claims that he cried so much as a youth that he’s now all cried out. Isn’t that a Toni Braxton song? Jeremy exits the house but not before dropping the pearls of wisdom, “That’s the way the cookie crumbles.”

Obviously the guys talk about what went down after Jeremy leaves. They debate the pros and cons of “ass vs. title shot” with the consensus being that no piece of ass is worth giving up this opportunity. I knew there was something fishy about them showing Jeremy’s fight history last week. Some fighters think Jeremy wanted to leave and used the poon as his way out of the house.

Fight Announcement – Middleweights

The staph infection is spreading to some other fighters. Matt says that Patrick Cote is supposed to fight Jorge Rivera next and if Patrick is healthy enough, that will be the fight that goes down.

Scott Smith steps out to announce the fight. What? No Shonie melodically taunting Charles McCarthy? Scott announces that he will be fighting Travis Lutter. Seems like Patrick wasn’t healthy enough. Scott is actually the only middleweight from Team Mojo that is recovered from the staph and can go. Travis is surprised by the pick. He welcomes the fight, however, because he feels he is much better on the ground than Scott.

UFC Fight History

Travis Lutter gained an interest in UFC by watching Royce Gracie. His first fight was against Marvin Eastman at UFC 50. Nothing happened in the first round and both were booed. Travis’ corner told him the overhand right was there and he should throw it. Travis did just that and with one punch, knocked the hell out of Marvin Eastman.

Moving on to UFC 52 where Travis faced Olympic silver medalist Matt Lindland. Lindland controlled the fight against Travis and ended up finishing him with a guillotine. Travis claims that is the only time he has submitted. Travis looked for redemption at UFC 54 as he took on sparring partner and friend Trevor Prangley. Dana says Travis was overwhelmed on the big stage. Travis lost the fight by unanimous decision.

Scott Smith is a farter. He seems to be pulling it off well too, as he hasn’t crossed the line into being annoying yet. It’s a mighty fine line though and Mr. Smith is definitely straddling it. In addition to farting, Scott Smith also fights MMA. His brush with the UFC was against David Terrell at UFC 59. Scott was screwed on a break call and got choked out. The ref called for a break and Scott stopped, only David didn’t. The ref let it go and Scott was taken down and submitted. Dana thought Scott was winning the fight up to that point and thought Scott deserved another chance with the UFC.

Fight Day

It’s the usual “I think I have a good chance to win” spiel from both guys. I can see it’s going to be another short fight as there is merely five minutes left in the show.

Scott Smith vs. Travis Lutter – Round 1

Travis shoots in on Scott about 45 seconds into the opening round. Scott avoids the takedown at first but Travis is persistent and slowly breaks Scott down to the mat. Travis has Scott’s back and gets the choke. Scott has no chance to escape and taps. Perhaps he should have tried the “I have to pee” defense. This was very similar to last week’s fight.

The winner by submission is Travis Lutter.

Post Fight

Team No Love gets their first win. Team Mojo does it’s best job of cheering Scott up but he’s still understandably disappointed. Scott didn’t look very good in this fight and seemed to fall directly into Travis’ gameplan.

Next Week

Now that Team No Love has control, they start playing mind games with Team Mojo. One of the welterweights is able to come back into the tournament now that Jeremy is gone. That means either Rich Clementi or Pete Spratt will be back and from the looks of it, a coin toss may decide it. Also, Mike Burnett is getting increasingly annoyed by Shonie Carter’s disrespect for the other housemates.
