Looking Ahead – 12th September 2006

Welcome one, and welcome all to another TREMENDOUS edition of Looking Ahead. I am your host for this morning, afternoon, evening, night or whatever time-zone you’re from when you are reading this.

I turned 23 on Friday, so forgive me if I seem a little grumpy. Unlike a fine wine, I don’t age well. However I feel as though this year will be a good year. No idea why I feel like that, I just do. Maybe I’ll win the lottery or something.

RAW

Next PPV – Unforgiven; 17/09/06

The Announced Card

TLC Match for the WWE Championship
Edge vs. John Cena

Hell in a Cell
De-Generation X vs. The McMahons & Big Show

Intercontinental Championship Match
Johnny Nitro vs. Jeff Hardy

World Tag Team Championship Match
The Spirit Squad vs. The Highlanders

Carlito vs. Randy Orton

WWE Women’s Championship Match
Lita vs. Trish

Kane vs. Umaga

As per normal, I don’t cover the matches if it’s the last show before the PPV. That’s what the Roundtable is for.

SMACKDOWN

Next PPV – No Mercy; 08/10/06

The Announced Card

The Undertaker vs. Ken Kennedy

Decent way to get Taker a match on the card, bump up PPV buy’s and bring more focus to Ken Kennedy, so I’m all for it and can see why they went with it. I’m not that keen on Kennedy not defending the US title, but I suppose it’s for the greater good if you will. (pushing Kennedy). I know Eric S hates Kennedy with a passion, but even though I agree that he’s not the best worker on the roster, there’s worse. Plus the guy’s got charisma whether you admit it or not.

Speculation…

King Booker vs. Bobby Lashley – World Championship

If Finlay creaming Batista after the World Title match last week was anything to go by, then we might be done with the Batista – King Booker feud. That leaves Booker without a match for No Mercy, which is a month or so away. They have 4 weeks left to either find a new opponent for No Mercy… SHIT. I’ve just realised what is probably going to happen.

King Booker vs….. The Boogeyman!

No Mercy = throw away PPV, won’t be too affected by a “no-build” main event

Boogeyman = hasn’t been seen since his feud with King Booker, has had videos airing on SmackDown promoting his return

King Booker = no opponent for PPV, vanquished Boogeyman with a restraining order

Dammit. It all adds up. I would say something like “Yeah it MIGHT happen, but there’s very little chance”, but I have a gut feeling that it WILL happen, because I’ve been watching WWE too many years for it NOT to happen. Oh well… at least we’ll get Batista vs. Finlay.

Finlay vs. Batista

Watching Finlay absolutely paste Batista on SmackDown last week was a sight for sore eyes. This is obviously going to lead into a feud, and if it doesn’t then I have no faith in Creative. I’m really excited for this one to kick off, because Batista is missing ‘something’ from his array in my opinion, and working with Finlay would be the best way for Big Dave to possibly learn how to be more aggressive and stiff. Hey, it’s worked wonders for Lashley, so hopefully it can work for Batista too.

Chavo Guerrero vs. Chris Benoit

After reading wwe.com’s preview of SmackDown, as well as watching SmackDown last week, I think that they are done with the Mysterio – Chavo feud. About time too, as it was going nowhere. Mysterio can use this as an excuse to take some time off in storyline land, and in reality he can get his knee repaired. Benoit is rumoured to be making his return, so he could be a good opponent to face Chavo in a revenge type match for mentally destroying Rey-Rey. As long as they don’t actually mention Eddie Guerrero’s name, then I’m all for this. Besides, I can’t see Benoit doing an Eddie angle, as it was rumoured to be one of the reasons for his sabbatical.

Gregory Helms vs. Matt Hardy

I doubt that the Cruiserweight title will be on the line for this match, however I see this storyline playing out for a few months. Helms will win by cheating at the PPV, then on the next SmackDown show, Hardy will cost Helms his title. That will anger Helms no end, give Hardy some payback and generally extend the feud a few more weeks until the blow-off match.

1PW

Next PPV – 1PW Anniversary; 14/10/06

The Announced Card

No Rope Barbed Wire Hell
Steve Corino vs. Abyss

This should be an awesome match, with the feud that’s been brewing for months coming to a head. I can’t see Steve Corino losing the World title yet, so my money’s on Corino.

Three Way Ladder Match for the 1PW Tag Team Titles
Team SHAG vs. Jonny Storm & Jody Fleisch vs. Southern Comfort

I’m kinda concerned about Southern Comfort competing in the match, because I can’t exactly see Tracy Smothers taking a dive off the ladder. It’s rumoured to be Chris Hammrick’s last match for 1PW before retiring, so this should be quite the match if he gives it his all.

Teddy Hart vs. Pac

From what I’ve seen of the first encounter these two had, I’m chomping at the bit for more. Both are high flyers and can do some sick aerial assault moves. Should be a great little spot fest.

European Death Match
Ulf Herman vs. Iceman vs. Martin Stone

Not too fussed about this match, but I’m looking forward to seeing what Martin Stone can do given the chance. Ulf and Iceman are involved in a short feud for now, so it will be interesting to see how all three guys co-operate.

Austin Aries vs. Darkside

Austin Aries has yet to get a win during his tenure with 1PW, which is a damn shame because he’s probably one of the most over foreign talents in 1PW. Darkside is pretty awful if I’m being honest. He’s got some decent moves, but overall he just doesn’t cut it for me.

Christoper Daniels vs. Dustin Rhodes

Yeah… THE Dustin Rhodes. Goldust. As much as 1PW are plugging his debut and that he’s apparently on top form and ready to show what he’s capable of.. I just don’t care. I can see him stinking up the joint, but hopefully that won’t be the case. Daniels is a master of making people look good, so he’ll probably play a big part in the quality of the match.

The Last Bit…

That’s all she wrote. Keep it here for more PPV predictions and gabber next week!
