[WWE] The Rock Update

Archive

As we reported yesterday, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson — by being in NYC all week to promote tomorrow’s release of Gridiron Gang and yet NOT showing up at WWE’s Madison Square Garden tapings — is pretty much finished with the wrestling business. Of course, you can “never say never,” but this is the story as of today.

Reinforcing this are The Rock’s (whether or not he drops the name — he seems to not be dropping it except for his more ‘serious’ movie roles — we’ll keep calling him that here) comments in his latest interview with Reuters:

“I have been out (of wrestling) now for about three, four years. People always ask me (if I will go back) because I quietly got out … I never wanted to make a big splash or exodus … I just wanted to quietly get out and devote myself to acting…”

“When I first got into acting I never wanted to say from this day forward I only want to be know as Dwayne Johnson as that did not feel good to me or right…”

“But I wanted to hopefully — and I am happy this is what has taken place naturally — progress into Dwayne Rock Johnson or just Dwayne Johnson.”

So there you have it.
