Less than a week after announcing its newest initiative with iTunes, Disney has reportedly sold more than 125,000 movie downloads. Bob Iger, Disney CEO, is already predicting $50 million in revenue from the sale of movies through iTunes during the first year of the new partnership. The studio was the first to offer TV shows on iTunes a year ago, and last week it became the only studio to offer full-length movies, including 75 films with such hits as The Incredibles, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and National Treasure.

Including the first Pirates film (and allowing pre-orders for its sequel) is probably a HUGE chunk of those sales, what with all the fandom surround the series over the past few months. But now that the movies will be sold at their full price of $15, and no longer at the discounted price for the launch of the service, I think we’ll be seeing a dip in sales once the novelty wears off. Or it could boom like their TV downloads once more studios join in, who knows?
