TiVo Central – Grey's Anatomy – Episode 3-1

Shows

The first episode of season three for Grey’s Anatomy is in the books and it seems everyone is talking about it. 23 million people watched this episode, so there’s a lot of people talking. Time for me to comment now.

I should tell you that I love this show. It’s weird, though, as I’m most like George on the show, but I’m also like Derek in some ways. What does that tell you about me? Yes, I have issues. But back to the show.

I was digging all of the flashbacks. I thought it was great that we went back BEFORE the time that season one happened and saw what lead everyone to the people they have become. The only flashback that annoyed me was Cristina’s, since it seemed like she was annoying Burke. It actually took a minute to figure out what was going on there. A little weird to me.

Next thing I liked was Derek and George being locked inside the locker room together. Let me tell you, when two guys have had “relationships” with the same woman, they usually don’t like to be in the same room together. Even if neither of them is going out with that woman, it’s still a little awkward to be alone in the same room with a guy that has been with the same woman you have been with. I loved the whole “hunting for food” thing. I loved George’s speech about how he can’t die now, since he hasn’t done anything. Derek has the “hot wife and beautiful mistress that pines for him”. What does George have?

That’s right, George has Callie. Lets talk relationships now. First, I didn’t mind that Meredith didn’t make her choice in this episode. It probably pissed some people off, since we left last season with her having to make a decision. She will make it soon, but I didn’t mind the fact that she didn’t make it here. It will happen in time, of course. What I found most interesting was Derek giving George advice about his love life. Derek told George to tell Callie that he loves her, even if he doesn’t right now. Derek says “do it now before someone else does”.

So what happens when Derek and George get out of quarantine. George runs home to Callie, who is absolutely in love with George in that scene. George has the perfect chance to say those three words to her, but yet he doesn’t. I was so sure he was going to say it too, but was glad he didn’t. Derek was looking on and you can tell he was wondering why George didn’t say it? It goes back to what I said earlier, I don’t think George and Callie make a great couple, and I still don’t think George is completely over the Meredith thing. I think Callie is good for now, but I don’t see them together in the long-run. That doesn’t mean I think George and Meredith will get back together. I just don’t see George and Callie together. Who knows, maybe it will work out, but I don’t think so.

As far as Derek and Meredith and Addison go. It’s pretty much over between Derek and Addison. I think Derek made that choice when he slept with Meredith in the hospital at the end of that season. I think Addison knows it over by the look on her face when she finds Meredith’s panties, which I assume ended up in Derek’s jacket for some unknown reason or something. Derek tells Meredith that he loves her. Finn says he likes Meredith as well. She still has a choice and that is where we are at. I think Meredith will choose Derek, but honestly I would rather see her be by herself right now. If she is with someone right now, things will only turn out “dark and twisty” in the end. Meredith can’t even take care of herself, how can she be with someone else. You have to love yourself before you can love anyone else.

Overall, I liked the episode. It still leaves lots of questions unanswered and I believe that was the point. Lets see if 23 million people return next week to find out the answers.
