Ultimate Marvel Handbook # 183

Features

Hey Daron good to see you again bud .

Indeed, it’s good to be back.

Well another big week of questions and Civil War. You know I‘m up for this as always. I sure hope you are.

Always! I’ve apparently had to change my font color due to the new colors on the site. Hope everyone likes red.

Great let‘s start.

Brian emails

Hi,

I read your recent column and a question was made about the Thing fighting a lot of heroes and mopping the floor with them. I have that issue, it is in the classic Thing solo run back in the 80s, issue #5. The puppet master was able to make heroes attack the Thing, including Wonder Man, She-Hulk and Spidey himself.

I only read the first part of the story, however, not sure how it ended in issue #6. I believe the entire run of that comic is great, though, I have about a third of the issues and every one is a good read

I’ve found it now myself

Thing #5
Cover Date: November 1983
Writer: John Byrne
Artist: Ron Wilson
Story Title(s): With Friends Like These…
Puppet Master takes over She-Hulk, Wonder Man, and Spider-Man to help defeat the Thing

Stu emails

Hey guys just a quickish, answer back from my email from last week (and thanks for posting it as well).

Cool, you’re always welcome.

22) Nick Fury
23) Silver Surfer (unlockable).

Very nice list. But we know it‘s not complete yet. They are still unlocking characters who will appear.

As for women in refrigerators.

http://the-pantheon.net/wir/

That will explain it a hell of lot better than I can. Kev was right that the actual incident of a women being placed in a fridge was in a DC comic. But the whole argument of it being dangerous to a female character in a comic book, goes for all comic books not just DC.

It was just a website I stumbled on one time and found a very interesting read. Something with multiple answers to the question. (Which is basically do female comic book charcaters get treated badly?). And also proberly no real right or wrong answer.

Ohhhhhh I know the refrence now. It goes to Sue Dibny in Identity Crisis. I’m not a dc reader so I didn’t know what it was at first.

Also you are right there is no wrong or right answer on this one. I think it depends a lot on the character. Someone like say Sue Storm might be more safe then some others. She’s the type of character that if you try to harm her your just going to get more trouble. Fans would not want Sue dead and if they killed her it might really piss off FF fans

Anywho thats all for this time. Hopefully I’ll be talking soon

Thanks for the help man. Email again

Yeah thanks, it’s always fun to watch Jim squirm when he doesn’t know an answer.

Brandon emails

First off, thanks for answering my questions last time, you got to all of them in less then a week, I am impressed and truly answered all of them minus where Annex is but man that’s still impressive. Here are a few more I thought of..Thanks again.

It’s part of the job man. You’re welcome.

Part of the job? Is there more to it that I don’t know about?

How many heroes have truly killed someone? I mean killed someone that stayed dead, and who in Marvel has really died and stayed that way?

Most heroes don’t kill to many people. Villains do. As for people who stay dead:
Gwen Stacy
Uncle Ben (yeah I know Friendly Spider-Man)
George Stacy
Most everyone else has come back at times

How many current heroes, villians, or supporting cast got their start elsewhere, Example: Firestar started out in the old Spider-man and his amazing friends cartoon, THEN became a comic book hero.

I think Firestar might be the only one. Some people may say Morph but recall that Morph was Changeling in X-Men from years back. Also Morph now in comics don’t look like the show version

Wow, Firestar started on the cartoon and not in the comics? I didn’t know that”¦

Can you give me the back story on the Secret Empire and Midnight, the cyborg, I recently found the first few issues of Round Robin in my friends collection, I am curious as to the back story and where both the Secret Empire and Midnight are now.

Real Name: Jeffrey “Jeff” Wilde
Aliases: Moon knight
Identity: Secret
Occupation: Secret Empire agent; former burgler, vigilante
Citizenship: U.S.A.
Place of birth: Unrevealed
Known relatives: Anton Mogart (Midnight Man, father, deceased), unidentified mother
Group affiliation: Secret Empire; formerly Moon Knight’s partner
Education: High school graduate
First Appearance: Marc Spector : Moon Knight#4 (1989)

History: Jeff wilde was the illegitimate son of Anton Mogart, a thief Known as the Midnight Man because he committed his robberies at midnight. Mogart’s thefts spanned the globe, moving from city to city, taunting local police with notes. Mogart carried out daring robberies in New York on consecutive night for nearly a month, eventually clashing with Moon Knight, a fight which ended when Mogart fell into a river. Swept downstream, he came to rest beneath a drainage viaduct, where toxic effluent burned his face, Blaming Moon Knight for his misfortunes, the new deformed Midnight Man built a sewer lair and lured Moon Knight there; however, another of Moon Knight’s foes, Bushman, intruded on their fight, flooding the lair to drown both of them. Moon Knight lost Mogart in the raging waters.

Learning he had cancer, Mogart contacted jeff, who had tracked his father’s career through newspaper clippings but never met him. Mogart spent his final days passing on his trade secrets, but begged Jeff not to become a criminal. Since Moon Knight was the only man who had beaten his father, Jeff decided to become his partner. Initially, Jeff committed break-ins as Midnight to get Moon Knight’s attention; learning Jeff’s true motivations, Moon Knight rejected his partnership request, reluctantly reconsidered after Midnight aided him and Brother Voodoo against Dr. Friday’s zombie cult. Midnight found crime fighting less exciting than he had envisioned. Feeling unappreciated, he told Moon Knight that he was retiring, but instead of that he returned to crime, disguised as Moon Knight. While Moon Knight was abroad, Jeff stumbled across a secret Empire base, narrowly evading capture. The Empire hunted him, leading to a battle between them, Spider-Man, Midnight and Moon Knight, during which Jeff suffered severe burns and deformations through his entire body. The Empire fled, taking Jeff with them; Moon Knight and his allies eventually captured the Empire’s leeder, who informed them that Midnight was dead.

Meanwhile, the Empire unfortunately turned Jeff into a prototype cyborg warrior. He fell in love with his nurse Lynn Chambers, unaware she was secretly undergoing identical operations. Blaming Moon Knight for abandoning him, Jeff swore revenge. Further enhanced with weapon systems designed by scientist Elliot Franklin (Thunderball), Jeff battled Darkhawk, Spider-Man, the Punisher, Nova, Night Thrasher and Moon Knight in extremely exciting battles, and with Lynn’s help took over the Secret Empire. During a climactic confrontation between the heroes and the Empire, Lynn revealed her cybernetic nature. Horrified to find she had voluntarily given up the humanity stolen from him, Midnight rampaged. Lynn grappled him, causing a wall to collapse, burying them. After that Thunderball confirmed their deaths, claiming to have seen their mangled remains crushed under tones of rubble, and producing a pair of cybernetic arms ripped from their corpses.

I saw the thing on building a whole crossover on Dr. Doom, that could be very cool..Is there any hero or superteam that has never faced the good Doctor and has he faced ever verison of the Fantastic Four including Herbie, She-Hulk, and when Spiderman, Ghost Rider etc took over for awhile?

Secret Empire: History: The Secret Empire was originally founded by its first Number One, a scientist who believed he had always been an anonymous nobody in his words. The scientist created the Secret Empire as a criminal organization, it is unclear whether his goal extended to world domination. The Empire began as a subordinate organization to the far larger subversive organization Hydra, which provided it with considerable financial support). HYDRA saw much of the Empire’s usefulness as serving as a means of distracting the attention of SHIELD from HYDRA, while HYDRA was secretly rebuilding its own strength. Number One on the other hand sought to break away from HYDRA’s domination.

Ironically in the end Number One was killed in an explosion set off by himself, leaving his corpse unidentifiable. A terrible faith of the man who sought to make himself famous through the Empire.

The Secret Empire regrouped under a new Number One sometime later. The Empire infiltrated the Brand Corporation, and hired Quentin Harderman and his Commitee to Regain America’s Principles to try to ruin Captain America’s reputation. Number One who was a very high U.S Government official committed suiside after his attempted coup d’etat failed. The government had covered up his guilt and suiside with the help of a double.

The third version of the Secret Empire is said to have consisted of wealthy and powerful men from the worlds of politics, religion, espionage, the military, big businesses and the mass media. Headed by Professor Power, they sought to trigger a nuclear war between the United States and the Soviet Union. The plan was that the Secret Empire should remain safe underground and Power madly believed they would someday found a utopia on returning to Earth’s surface. Professor Power and the Secret Empire was defeated by the Defenders. However, Power’s closest advisors in the Empire managed to escape, and continued to exist under their leadership. The new Number One was taken down by Moon Knight, Spider-Man and Punisher. But the rest of the Counsil of Ten continued.

Thanks in advance guys, YOU ROCK!!!

Welcome first time lol.

Guess who..I know I know but questions are needed right? Recently I was going over my large collection of Horror films, being a huge fan and it got me thinking of vampires in good old Marvel..So some Vampire related questions for yall..

Hey more questions are cool

Well I know we rock (or at least that I do), but is anyone else confused as to whether or not we’ve moved onto a new emailer or a second email from Brandon? Oh well”¦

Last time I saw Dracula he took on Spider-Man and Dr. Strange and once again Spider-Man “forgot” he has faced both Dracula and vampires before…A recurring theme with him…It was in a Team-Up book…Dr. Strange beat him but there was much more going on there and Dracula managed to escape…Dr. Strange was going to go figure out a final solution but then House of M happened so I am sure he never did..
Any news on where Dracula is now and what he has been up too?

As of the latest:

Dracula returned in three new four-issue miniseries. Stoker’s Dracula continued and concluded the adaptation of Dracula that had begun in Dracula Lives twenty years prior, and a new Tomb of Dracula miniseries followed. Apocalypse vs. Dracula featured Dracula battling the immortal foe of the X-Men in Victorian London. He also was in the first issue of the new Blade

With Dracula of course goes Blade…but I know where he is…sorta. I am curious as to his supporting staff from old…What have Quincy Harker and Rachel Van Helsing been up to?

Quincy Harker: he died in battle with Dracula. Hasn’t been seen since
Rachel Van Helsing: Needing a change in her life, Van Helsing took a leave of absence from her teaching position at England’s Oxford University and became a visiting professor at Bard College in New York State. There she was taken by surprise and attacked by Dracula, who had been resurrected yet again. Dracula killed Rachel, who then became a vampire under Dracula’s control. He made her his consort, and she served as his ally in his subsequent clash with the mutant adventurers called the X-Men.

During his battle against the X-Men, Dracula was unable to maintain the concentration he needed to keep the strong-willed Van Helsing fully under his mental control. Hence, Van Helsing reasserted her own will and was appalled at what Dracula had made her. She hurled a spear through his heart and then, despite the intense pain to herself, brandished a crucifix to render him immobile and unable to pull the spear from his body. As a result, Dracula perished, his body turning to dust except for his skeleton.

Having taken her vengeance, Van Helsing wished to end her existence as a vampire. Knowing that being reduced to dust by the rays of the sun, which would soon rise, would be slow and extremely painful, she asked the X-Men to give her a quick, more merciful death by driving a stake through her heart. The X-Man Wolverine complied with her request. Rachel died peacefully, smiling as she watched the sun begin to rise. She was dead before the sun began to reduce most of her body to dust. Months later, Frank Drake avenged her murder by Dracula by playing a major role in assisting the sorcerer Doctor Stephen Strange in casting the spell that destroyed Dracula and all other vampires on Earth, seemingly permanently. That‘s her last appearances

What about Frank Drake? How about Harker’s daughter Edith? THen of course I must not forget Hannibal King…Who last I saw teamed up with…Spider-Man against Lilith then wandered off into the night….

Frank Drake: After Nightstalkers: Blade escapes believing them to be dead but eventually runs into King in New Orleans who explains that Drake also survived but was left horribly scarred and crippled in both body and mind and would probably remain only a shell of his former self.

Edith Harker: Dracula turned Edith into a vampire. Quincy Harker was therefore forced to drive a wooden stake through her heart. So Dead

Hannibal King: Spider-man appearance: King would later set up a small shop in San Francisco where a CIA agent enlisted his help in stopping a vampire plot to blackmail the Earth with biochemical weapons. During this fight, CIA agent Tatjana Stiles was injured by vampire terrorist leader Navarro; although they defeated Navarro, Stiles’ injuries were too painful for her to live with. Knowing the pain would eventually kill her, she begged King to make her like him “if she loves him”. King, who grew attracted to Stiles, reluctantly complied and broke his years-long vow. Weeks later, King read a newspaper article about the mysterious death of two Iraqi guards in an overseas search for terrorist weapons. From the description of the deaths, King had no doubt who was responsible. Dispirited, King lost interest in his work and retreated into depression.

Okay..Last bit..Baron Blood. I know it was John Falsworth as Baron Blood back in the days of the Invaders and on through the 80’s as a mostly Cap villian(who sorta won in Exiles).

Then Victor Strange??? Who is he became the new Baron Blood but killed himself and was buried by his brother Dr. Strange..Has he returned since and what happened to Marie Laveau who brought him back the first time? Thanks in advance guys.

Marie Laveau: Born in New Orleans in 1801, Marie was a Creole beauty who treated victims of warfare and epidemic. In 1819, she married Jacques Paris and, after his disappearance, bore Christophe Glapion five children, the first also named Marie. Allegedly inducted into the Voudou (Voodoo) faith by houngan John Bayou and/or manbo Sanite Dede, Marie supplied clients with mystic charms and led ceremonial dances, her namesake joining her at adulthood. Marie held mystic and political power, reportedly helping slaves escape and opposing religious oppression. Reported dead in 1881, Marie survived via sorcerer Cagliostro’s potion but continued aging. Her good deeds were slandered, but Cagliostro’s secret may have corrupted Marie in truth. Little is known of her for over a century, but the tales grew taller and darker. Finally, she captured Dracula, whose vampire blood, in Cagliostro’s potion, restored her youth.

A rival of Brother Voodoo in recent years, Marie was captured by the fanatic Silver Dagger to lure sorcerer Doctor Strange into a trap. Marie was prepared to kill either Strange or his nemesis to escape, but it was the latter who fell, earning her Strange’s wary respect. When Strange destroyed Earth’s vampires, Marie sent local super hero Captain Marvel (later Pulsar) to 1784 for fresh vampire blood, again from Dracula; however, Strange’s spell destroyed the prize, and Marie searched the world for any hint of surviving vampirism. Ironically, she discovered Strange’s comatose brother Victor, partially vampirized from Strange’s failed healing efforts. With Victor in tow, Marie performed the Vampiric Verses spell and – despite Strange, Brother Voodoo, and others – resurrected Varnae, long-dead first of vampires, whom she thought to control; but Varnae escaped, spreading vampirism until dying in a clash with Blade and the Nightstalkers. Marie and some newly made vampires re-created Varnae, who again broke her control. Months later, Marie and vampire Deacon Frost, seeking control of New Orleans, fought Brother Voodoo and Blade. Marie invoked the Loa (Voodoo Gods) to empower her zombie-legions, but Brother Voodoo convinced the serpent-god Damballah that Marie did not respect him and he seemingly crushed her to death.

Yeah”¦that’s what I was gonna say.

Jim: Cable became president of Rumekistan, an Eastern Eurpean nation in C&DP #28-29.

Yes but he also runs Providence which predates that issue. Sort of having him run two places

JRjr also did a creator owned book at Image. Ultimately, he has a lot of fans from his Uncanny X-Men days, as well as Daredevil and Iron Man. He’s a true a professional who gets his work done on time and looking good, as opposed to an egotist with a pencil and an attitude. And he’s JR jr– his father is one of the architects of the Marvel Universe.

I‘m not even going to argue against JR Jr. He‘s great. I didn‘t know about the image thing though. But I know he‘s known more for Marvel work

JR jr. did indeed do a creator owned book for Image – Gray Area. (Hello I did an extensive interview with the man about it a few years ago!) It was however originally supposed to be a part of Marvel’s Icon line, but they weren’t ready to launch the line when JR was ready to launch the book, so he took it to Image.

Cable or Zemo…or Cable vs Zemo.. would make a good figure of a central Crossover…though you’d need Niceza in charge.

Very nice one

Damage Control apparantly will be showing up in Civil War, all evil or something now.

Wolverine 46 to be exact.

Priest wrote the Deadpool v Taskmaster stuff. Behind the scenes, no one at Marvel could tell him about Taskmaster’s personality, so he made him big-speech-guy. Then when it came out, it was pointed out by Pyshics consultant Dr. David Van Domelan that Taskmaster is more thuggish in speech, and so next time he showed up, the big-speech was explained away.

Um was this covered? I don‘t recall it from last week but always good to see more information

By the way, looks like the color tag got stuck

That was my fill in editors mistake I think I checked my html.

Nice. Way to stick up for the Kevinator.

Jim,

You asked about the guy with the Null Field. Now I don’t know the issue in question, but it sounds a lot like the Aquarian. His power basically “nulls” all energy in his vicinity. Could be him…

You know you could be right. Let’s see if I can post about him and see if it helps our emailer

REAL NAME: Wundarr
KNOWN ALIASES: Herald of the New Age
IDENTITY: The fact that he is an alien is not widely known
OCCUPATION: Prophet
LEGAL STATUS: Citizen of Dakkam, illegal alien on Earth
PLACE OF BIRTH: Dekkam, second planet in the R Aquarii system (Earth designation)
MARITAL STATUS: Single
KNOWN RELATIVES: Hektu (father, deceased), Soja (mother, deceased)
GROUP AFFILIATION: None
BASE OF OPERATIONS: None
FIRST APPEARANCE: (as Wundarr) Fear #17, (as Aquarian) Marvel Two-in-One #58
KNOWN SUPERHUMAN POWERS: The Aquarian possesses certain superhuman physical and energy-manipulating powers due to magnetic changes wrought in his cellular structure by radiation.

Prior to his exposure to the Cosmic Cube, the Aquarian’s body absorbed various energies from the environment and transformed them into kinetic energy with which to augment his body’s strength and endurance. The Aquarian could not only use his augmented strength to lift things, but also to propel himself through the air by jumping. The Aquarian could cover several miles in a single bound. The energy absorption process continued involuntarily and if the Aquarian had not expended it in some physical activity before it reached the threshold of his body’s capacity to retain energy, the energy would explosively discharge in a sphere of concussive force. (Reed Richards designed him a containment suit, which enabled his body to expel small, non-concussive amounts of energy so it would not build up.)

After the Cosmic Cube experiment, the Aquarian’s former energy-dampening ability was transformed into something different and more powerful. The Aquarian’s body is now surrounded by a field of entropy (“null-force”), which, at equilibrium, radiates to a distance of five feet from any point on his body. With concentration, the Aquarian can contact the null-field to about five inches in thickness, or expand it to a maximum distance of approximately 500 feet. He can never shut the field down completely.
The null-field neutralizes most energies within the electromagnetic spectrum over a certain as yet unmeasured intensity. This includes light, electricity, magnetism, high-frequency energies, sound, and even gravity.

The Aquarian’s entropic field also neutralizes kinetic energy. His body’s null-field is of opposite polarity to that of the fields of normal atomic matter. Hence his field nullifies kinetic energy in direct ratio to the inertia (resistance of object in motion to changes of motion) of the moving object. Only objects with kinetic energy below a certain as yet unmeasured value are permitted trough his field without any cancellation of inertia. The net effect of any object of greater inertia entering his null-field is that it loses its kinetic energy. Hence, a speeding bullet, a thrown knife, or a hurled punch is unable to strike him.

Because this kinetic energy-canceling property affects him as well as other objects in his field, the Aquarian cannot move faster than his null-field will allow. Therefore, his ability to leap is useless. However, since he can negate gravity’s influence on him, he can walk on air.

The kinetic and electromagnetic energies possessed by most other superhumanly powered beings also canceled within his field. Hence, those who possess superhuman physical strength would be unable to exercise it within his field, and those with energy-manipulating powers would also be unable to use them. The field does not take these innate capacities away; it simply prevents their use in his presence.

HISTORY: Wundarr was born on the planet Dakkam to the extremely humanoid-looking alien race native to the world. As an infant, Wundarr was placed inside a rocket and sent into space when his father incorrectly predicted a planet wide destruction. Sending the interstellar voyage in suspended animation, Wundarr eventually came within the gravitational influence of Earth and was bombarded by cosmic rays in Earth’s outer atmosphere. This radiation endowed him with certain superhuman physical powers. Crash-landing on Earth, Wundarr grew to maturity within the ship, having been released from suspended animation by the crash. Eventually he was set free by the Man-Thing. Due to his lack of experience and education, Wundarr acted mentally and emotionally retarded. For a brief time he was placed in the custody of the Thing, but Namorita “adopted” him shortly thereafter. Government agents learned of his superhuman abilities and illegal alien status and brought him to the government energy research facility, Project: Pegasus, for study.

Wundarr’s mild energy-dampening powers were used to probe the power object called the Cosmic Cube. In an accidental power overload, Wundarr’s mind and body were overwhelmed by the Cube’s energies. Consequently, Wundarr’s energy-dampening abilities were greatly heightened but his mind was shut down, as it was not yet able to cope with the influx of new power. In communion with the sentience of the Cosmic Cube, Wundarr gained great knowledge and a sense of purpose. Emerging from his coma, he renamed himself the Aquarian and set forth to use his new powers to bring peace and enlightenment to the world. He since helped the sentient life form in the Cosmic Cube metamorphose into its next state of being.

Jeff emails

Jim! WAZZZZUP!!!

Hey Jeff

Hey, about that question from the reader asking about Benjamin J. Grimm getting the smackdown from a bunch of heroes…I don’t remember anything specific to 10 or more years ago, as other than Benjy I don’t give a Wingless Wizard’s crap about the FF. But I did give it a brief try when Reed got stuck in Doom’s body and decided, with his inexplicable genius, it would be a good time to renew his vows to Susan. All the heroes were in the dark about Reed being Doom at the time and most of them freaked out when it was announced that Doom was going to marry Susan almost before Reed’s body was cold. I recall an issue where Ben went to Avengers Mansion with the intent to try and cool them out, but Captain America, Iron Man and Co. wouldn’t hear of it and the ridiculously contrived superhero Royal Rumble ensued. Ben pretty much held his own. I often wonder why Ben and Hulk don’t just take over the whole Marvel Universe…or did I just blow next year’s big even went Planet Hulk comes back to Earth? Bum-bum-BUUUMMM!!

Woah ok that‘s an FF issue. We thought it was Thing above. Let‘s see if I can find that one lol

Superhero-vs-Superhero melee = writer’s block. Just so everyone’s clear on that.
I’m off to drool over the fact that FREAKING HEIMDALL is in the Ultimate Marvel Alliance game. And then make fun of them for coming up with the Ultimate Unwieldy Game Title Ever. That doesn’t roll off the tongue. Why not call it Marvel Legends? And better yet, why not drop the Ultimate FROM EVERYTHING!! DEATH TO THE ULTIMATE CRAP! See? I haven’t forgotten. Coming soon to a Welcome To Your Nightmare near you.

Lol why don’t we blow up the Ultimate universe and just call the game Marvel Alliance or something

Peace out, True Believer!

Later Jeff thanks for the help.

Bah, you ignore me, I ignore you. See what happens to your next column buddy!

Cory emails

Hey fellas! Cory’s back! (as if I ever left). And away we go:

1- To all my game heads, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance is almost here, due out 10-24-06. Since it was previously mentioned, are you 2 guys gonna get it? The “playable” characters are: Blade, Cap/USAgent, Deadpool, Dr.Strange, Elektra, Ghost Rider, Human Torch, Iceman, Invisible Woman, Iron Man/War Machine, Luke Cage, Mr. Fantastic, Spider-Man/Scarlet Spider, Spider-Woman, Storm, The Thing, Thor/Beta Ray Bill, Warbird or Ms.Marvel, and Wolverine. Black Panther, Daredevil, Nick Fury, & Silver Surfer are “unlockable” characters. Hawkeye is a PSP exclusive, damn! Poor Hawkeye.

Damn I would make Hawkeye in all the games and playable. No need to unlock. I am getting the game myself. I know that.

Not I. I hated the gameplay of the two X-Men Legends games, and since this is based on the same engine, I really have no interest.

2- After an attack by the Hand results in the destruction of the couch in his apartment, Luke exclaims, “Do you know how many good times I had on that couch? I HAD THE BLACK CAT ON THAT COUCH!” CLASSIC! However, since committing to Jessica Jones in Alias #28, Luke has been completely faithful, and the two were married in New Avengers Annual #1. What women has Luke Cage had (pre-JJ)?

Hmm some we don’t know but here’s who we have:
Black Cat
Jessica Jones
Dakota North
She-Hulk
Misty Knight
There’s others I can‘t think of

3- What’s with this “Casualties of War” Civil War tie-in about? More deaths?

Likely it will cover most every death that happened in Civil War. I could be wrong but makes sense

4- Since that Venom in Mac Gargan, any idea on if & when the symbiote will return back to Brock? Also Marvel Comics recently announced that Spider-Man will be donning a black suit after the conclusion of Civil War. It is not yet clear if this marks the return of Spider-Man with the Venom symbiote or simply a similar looking costume. However, it is worth noting that the “Back in Black” event will precede the release of Spider-Man 3, which will prominently feature the symbiote and then Venom as villain. What ya think?

I’ll bet Brock is back in time for the new Spider-Man movie. After all he’s only in the hospital and not dead.

Yay, more comics fashioning themselves after other media (even though I do prefer the black costume). This probably wouldn’t bother me as much if the comic companies actually did something to try and turn the movie watchers and what not into comic readers. But apparently they’d rather just market everything for them instead of marketing things to them”¦

5- Now that I think about it, Maria Hill has a major role in this war as much as Tony or Reed. As S.H.I.E.L.D. Director, Hill is one of the leading enforcers of the Superhuman Registration Act, a task she carries out with absolute ruthlessness. One of such acts involved the blackmailing of Wonder Man into actively supporting S.H.I.E.L.D.’s crusade to hunt down the superheroes opposed to the Superhuman Registration Act. Hill also sent Kree supersoldier Noh-Varr, already brainwashed and altered with insect DNA, to capture the Runaways. They’re all guilty. Damn I miss Nick Fury!

Nick is helping Cap as we both know. Sort of shows how much he agrees with what’s going on and how Hill has really changed SHIELD.

6- During the escape in CW#4, besides Wiccan, what other anti-registration heroes were left behind?

We know Wiccan. Others missing: Ultra Girl, Speed and Hulkling from the bunker

7- But I’d love a general overview of characters with a home base outside of NY. Hmmm. Wolverine- Madripoor Ka-Zar- Savage Land Inhumans- Attilan Silver Sable – Symkaria

Wolverine as Patch you should say. I admit I missed all those above though. Thanks

8- DEBATE! The Xavier Protocols are a set of doomsday plans in the fictional Marvel Universe. They contain details on how the best way to kill each of the X-Men and other powerful mutants if they should lose control of their powers. Charles Xavier wrote them, and the list even included how to defeat himself. As revealed in Excalibur #100 (each Protocol is activated by the presence of a different combination of X-Men): Code 0-0-0 (Charles Xavier) : The use of anti-psionic armor against him, and how to build it. Code 0-2-1 (Wolverine) : Long range attack, sever the head, and place the head and body far apart. Note: This assumes Wolverine is without his adamantium skeleton. Code 1-3-9 (Cable) : Take advantage of the techno-organic virus that occupies his telekinesis powers, and letting the virus infect major organs. Note: After the purge of the virus from Cable’s body, this particular strategy no longer applies. So have the following codes ever been revealed? Or how would you guys take down the other X-Men? (I know Daron is salivating over Gambit’s)

Let’s see
Cyclops: Use a device to prevent him using his optic blast
Gambit: I’ll let Daron deal with him
Jean: Just kill her again lol
Beast: place him in a mental attack and then cage him
Storm: Use her claustrophobia against her.
Kitty: place her in a led confinement with no escape
Colossus: Do what they did in Uncanny 178
Archangel: You go after his wings. You basically take them out and you
Bishop: power overload.
Iceman: place him in a fire like room no escape
Psylocke: Lock her into a shadow realm
Rogue: Put her into a coma and force a collar on her to strip powers

I’d say with few exceptions you don’t even need a special plan as most of the X-characters don’t actually have a lot of defensive powers. There are lots of different ways to kill most of them. As for Gambit”¦I don’t know if I could pick just one. I’d love to write a full comic wherein I get to kill Gambit on each page”¦and a completely different way.

9- * Who has the most annoying accent in the Marvel Universe? Daron…do you care to answer this one, mon ami?

Daron go ahead

Do I even need to? It probably wouldn’t even be as bad if it stuck around from panel to panel”¦

10- Omega Flight. Speculation has been rampant as to the identity of the individual in the Guardian suit. Guesses have ranged from an expatriated Steve Rogers (Captain America) to a revived Omega the Unknown. Care to guess on this one? Cap with a powered suit? Naw, to Starkish.

I’ll guess actually Heather Hudson taking her husbands place again. The image is a throw off on her sex.

11- As of Amazing Spider-Man #535, Spider-Man has officially changed sides and is now against the Superhero Registration Act. So what now? Will he keep his red-gold or get the red-blue back?

I say he goes back to red and blue and goes to join Cap. After all the armor could be controlled by Stark

12- You know I didn‘t even think of Squirrel Girl. You are very correct that she doesn’t lose. She has a perfect record. So who has she fought & how does she do it? Is she really that good or is it a Marvel joke?

It’s more a Marvel joke really but here’s her history:
The original story (entitled “The Coming of Squirrel Girl!”) began with her ambushing Iron Man in a forest. She hoped to impress the veteran hero, wishing him to take her under his wing as his sidekick. The 14 year old mutant introduced herself and her pet squirrel (named Monkey Joe), and displayed her various abilities. Unimpressed, Iron Man politely declined, when suddenly the duo was attacked by Doctor Doom in a large aircraft. Doom captured and subdued Iron Man, and began to fly out over the ocean where he planned to dispose of Iron Man’s body once he killed him. Underestimating her, Doom left Squirrel Girl to her own devices. She devised a plan, and used her ability to communicate with squirrels through an open door as the ship passed over the forest. Hundreds of squirrels answered her call and flooded Doom’s ship, chewing through the wires, and swamping the evil dictator with their furry bodies. Doom exclaimed “Confound these wretched rodents! For every one I fling away, a dozen more vex me!” Iron Man was freed, they emerged victorious, and the two heroes went their separate ways.

Squirrel Girl’s first appearance was almost assured to be her last, given the silliness of the character’s concept, especially in the grittier and more grown up comic market trend of the early 1990s. She existed primarily as a matter of trivia, or an example of an extremely bad character, for the next decade. Her only known appearance during this time was as the pattern on a pair of underwear worn by the character Deadpool in issue 7 of his series.

In 2005, comic writer Dan Slott wrote a four-issue miniseries for the superhero team the Great Lakes Avengers. Created in 1989, this parody team was made up of enthusiastic heroes with bizarre and almost-but-not-quite useless abilities. They had appeared only a handful of times over their 16-year history, serving as comic relief. In commemoration of the team’s first starring series, the first roster changes were made, and the Squirrel Girl character was revived. Having relocated to New York City for some reason, she was fighting crime in Central Park, and encountered the GLA, who were on a membership drive, after saving them from muggers. In addition to appearing in the story, she also introduced each issue, usually providing a disclaimer or opinion piece about the contents of the series. Her side-kick squirrel, Monkey Joe, was also added to the team, and was used as a commentator on the series, appearing in a circle alongside the story to make comedic and smart-alec remarks. Alongside her new teammates, Squirrel Girl witnessed the death of Grasshopper, and became very frightened but was determined not to give up.

This miniseries satirized comic book deaths, and it had been announced that a team member would die in every issue. After Squirrel Girl made a fuss to ensure that Monkey Joe would be an official member of the team, he was killed in the third issue, apparently by Dr. Doom, who had come seeking revenge. In actuality, his killer was a rejected member of the GLA named Leather Boy in a variation of Dr. Doom’s costume.
In a fit of rage after the death of her friend, Squirrel Girl was able to help stop Maelstrom from destroying the world after assembling a squirrel army. Squirrel Girl found a new squirrel companion here, the only one of her “squirrel army” who had survived Maelstrom’s wrath, whom she named Tippy-Toe.

In the GLX-Mas Special (Dec. 2005), Squirrel Girl and Tippy-Toe managed to defeat M.O.D.O.K., Terrax and Thanos all by themselves. Uatu, the Earth’s Watcher, was on hand to confirm that the Thanos she defeated was the real thing, and not a clone or copy of any kind (an explanation that has sometimes been used to excuse some of Thanos’ more embarrassing performances over the years). After M.O.D.O.K. was defeated, Dum-Dum Dugan offered her a position at S.H.I.E.L.D., explaining that they had been watching her for some time, impressed by her effectiveness in defeating powerful supervillains. Squirrel Girl declined the offer, saying she was happy being with the GLX. (The team changed their name to the Great Lake X-Men at the end of their miniseries). Squirrel Girl was one of the 198 who retained their powers after M-Day.

She was a huge fan of the New Warriors, especially Speedball, on whom she had a crush. It is unknown if the Stamford Tragedy from Civil War #1 has changed her opinion of the New Warriors or Speedball, though it was revealed in Cable and Deadpool #30 that all of the Great Lakes Champions had registered under the Superhuman Registration Act the morning it was announced.

13- I have the belief that either Thor or Herc will eventually come to blows with Ares soon. Also thank God for the Civil War #5-7 being pushed back…though he never gave up, Cap’s gonna need time to heal from his recent @$$-whooping.

Well yes I agree This will come up. Now we wait for the real Thor and Ares to show up. Also Beta Ray Bill.

14- If “Women in Refridgerators” is a DC thing? What would the equivalent term be for Marvel?

Hmm Mutants named Maximoff? I‘m not sure there‘s one.

What? What the hell do the Maximoffs have to do with “women in refrigerators?” And yes, the literal version women in refrigerators is definitely a DC thing or more precisely a Kyle Rainer Green Lantern thing.

15- Sometime ago in Spider-Man, there was a hero dressed in black named “The Filler” or “The Tiller”, who the heck was he?

Um ok can you give me a little more information like issue numbers? This one has me.

Woohoo. Bonus points for confuzzeling the Jim.

16- In Wolverine now, what do you guys think about the revelation between Damage Control & Civil War now? All about the $$$ huh?

Heh. What about the Spider-Man one too. Stark is making a ton off this CW too. So business people are greedy SOBs not like we didn’t know that. Even in comics

17- About Moon Knights rogues, who was the hideous looking guy in like issue 2-3? The Clown from Spawn looking guy?

Bushman

Real name: Raoul Bushman

Abilities: none inherent peak human physical condition, carries many weapons.
History: Bushman was a former mercenary in the Sudan with Spector as his former right hand man. Bushman and his men came upon Dr. Peter Alruane and his daughter Marlene and attempted to kill both in order to steal the Egyptian gold Alruane had discovered. When Spector, disgusted by Bushman’s senseless murder, tried to save Alruane and his daughter, Bushman beat Spector and left him for dead. It was while lying near death that Spector encountered the spirit of Khonshu and adopted the identity of Moon Knight. In this new guise, Spector defeated Bushman and rescued the Alruanes and their discovered Egyptian gold.

Much later, Bushman would attempt revenge against Spector while he was in the states. Failing that, he set himself up as General and President for life in the African Republic of Burunda. He funded his campaign on coca plant cultivation (for cocaine production). Defeated by Moon Knight once again, Bushman was deposed from his position in Burunda. Still, later, Bushman would engage in a quiet assassination attempt on Russian ambassadors in an attempt to end Glasnost. He was defeated by Moon Knight and taken into police custody where he presumably remains.

Bushman is easily recognized by the white tattooed Death’s Head mask on his face and the steel fangs that he sometimes employs. When Bushman appeared in his undercover attempt to assassinate Russian ambassadors, the Death’s head tattoo seemed to be gone and it’s only remainder a dark, less conspicuous, manta ray-like design on the forehead.

18- About the Joe Q. smoking ban, does any of the former smoking characters actually now know that they don’t smoke? EX: “Eh, Logan. You want a cigar?” “Naw I quit”

Most likely Nick and Wolverine would recall and Thing too.

19- Top 10: 1-Hulk, 2- Hawkeye, 3- Thor, 4- Quicksilver, 5- Scarlet Witch, 6- Prof. X, 7- Magneto, 8- Firestar, 9- Dr. Strange, 10- Goliath (R.I.P). Didn’t we do this top 10 already?
