2006/2007 TV Season Ratings Report – Week 2 (09/25/06 – 10/01/06)

News

More shows made their debut this week as the networks try to settle in for the Fall season. The CW also got going with all of their “hit” shows, so everything seems to be going good.

Except at FOX. It’s still hit or miss for its shows. They are messing around with their schedule and moving some of their new shows. Actually, all of their shows will be taking a break for Major League Baseball, but Happy Hour, which was supposed to have one more episode this past Thursday before the break, was taken off in favor of airing another episode of ‘Til Death. Neither comedy is doing that great in the ratings, but they are up against My Name is Earl and The Office along with Survivor and Smallville. FOX says that Happy Hour is NOT cancelled, though. They also decided to move the last new episode of Justice to this past Wednesday instead of this Wednesday. A repeat of House will fill their Wednesday night spot this week, but this is mainly due to the fact that Lost returns this Wednesday. So look for everything else to get KILLED by that! In addition to that, FOX also decided to cut the finale of Celebrity Duets, which occurred this past Friday, down to one hour instead of two since that show’s ratings has dropped off. Again, it had to face the return of Grey’s Anatomy, CSI, and Deal or No Deal, so no shocker there either. Happy Hour and Justice are still set to return in November after baseball. We’ll see if viewers come back to watch these shows again or not.

This week was all over the place. The first two days were split by all four of the major networks, CBS barely took control of Wednesday, and then Thursday, Friday, and Sunday were split again among the networks. What shows topped the charts this week and which network was consistent enough to win the week? Lets find out…

As you might imagine, all of the shows on The CW didn’t do that well compared to other networks. In fact, only America’s Next Top Model, Gilmore Girls, Smallville, and 7th Heavean were able to beat other shows on the other four networks. Of course, the shows they beat were all on FOX and it was all of FOX’s newest shows. Still, they did beat some FOX shows. Not enough to move them ahead of FOX for #4, though. The CW still has a LONG ways to go.

Grey’s Anatomy is again the #1 show on TV, but CSI cut into that lead greatly! In fact, CBS was able to take away some viewers and split the night with ABC. Actually, numbers were down all over the place this week. That is to be expected since last week was “premiere week” and now things seem to be settling down to where they should stay. As a result, CBS was able to regain the lead on ABC but it’s a tight race and this season is just getting started. NBC actually lost ground on those two networks this week. They are still there, though. In addition, I should congratulate Ugly Betty (ABC) for becoming the most watched new show this Fall! It barely beat out Brothers and Sisters (ABC), but I’m glad it did. So far it looks like ABC has the best new shows, but that could be up for debate later. For now, buckle up because another week of TV is staring right at you!

Sir Linksalot: Television News

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
