The Weinstein Company is hard at work attracting directors for a number of projects. Harvey and Bob Weinstein are in talks with Lasse Hallström to direct Rain in Spain, a potential starring vehicle for Penélope Cruz, says Variety.
The company is also bringing on board Danny Boyle to direct Solomon Grundy, based on the Dan Gooch novel.
Other upcoming films set to go before the cameras for the studio include Untitled Rob Marshall Musical, which begins shooting this spring, and the Denzel Washington-helmed Great Debaters, which heads into production in February.
“Debaters” marks Washington’s second time at directing; the first was Antwone Fisher. His follow-up is based on the true story of a professor at historically black Wiley College in East Texas.
Anthony Minghella’s The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency will shoot in South Africa next spring.
The Weinstein Company also has hired Rob Zombie to direct a remake of John Carpenter’s Halloween.
And it is no surprise that Dimension will release a sequel to Scary Movie 4 – the Company’s most successful movie financially speaking. Another spoof waiting in the wings is Superhero!.
