Papa Roach '… To Be Loved' by Guns N' Roses & Wrestling Fans

Press release posted at Pulse Wrestling.

Has anyone else heard this new Papa Roach single? Not that it was ever my favorite band or anything, but they seem to have pulled an AFI and suddenly decided that they were no longer dark and bleak, instead joining the realm of jangle-rock a la White Stripes and The Killers. More amusingly is the recurring lyric in the song, “Taking it back to a hardcore level”. “To Be Loved” is about as hardcore as Good Charlotte is goth.

Yes, the poppy garage sound is the current style. Ask Avenged Sevenfold all about it. (They’re a metal band! They swear!) Many artists in years past have changed to keep up with the times and succeeded, such as Madonna or U2. And truth be told, Papa Roach does this happy sound much better than they rightfully should. It’s not great, but it does the trick.

Now we have Guns ‘n’ Roses touring with these fellows. Guns ‘n’ Roses, a band who matured slightly during their heyday, yet whose newer songs sound like it’s time to repeat the early 1990s all over again. What is there to say when a crappy band like Papa Roach is progressing their career much better than legends like Guns ‘n’ Roses? I certainly don’t want to tell Axl to take lessons from these yahoos, yet it almost seems like the right thing to do. If only he would have taken Opeth on the road with him. Now there are some lessons the ol’ braided man could learn. Perhaps the WWE wouldn’t show interest in his music, but the rest of us would.

So I suppose this is a congratulations to Papa Roach for scoring a whole pile of winnings in the music business lottery, with the only loser being artistic creativity and the suffering of those who show up for the opening act.
