In Hindsight – The Amazing Race, Episode 10-3

Shows

Money – I think that this is the first time in the Race that ALL teams were given no money, plus they were specifically told that they could not earn money through begging or selling items. Obviously, this was one of the “twists” that was meant to challenge the teams further.

Travel – The teams travelled to Hanoi, Vietnam from Ulan Bator, Mongolia. At the ticket agent, Tom and Terry were whining because Dustin and Kandice “cut” in line, but as far as I’m concerned, it was a fair move on the girls’ part, and it ended up not making a difference as all teams (again) were bunched up in Vietnam.

Roadblock: Sell Flowers – Really, a nothing task that allowed the teams to earn some money for this leg of the race.

Detour – Fuel or Fowl
Fuel seemed to be the easier option, as building the birdcage required a lot of diligence, while coal allowed for a bit more sloppiness. But most of the problems came from trying to find the Detour locations, and then finding the way out.

Duke and Lauren only did Fowl because they happened to come across it, and it seemed to take them a longer than the other teams.

Miscellaneous
– Duke and Lauren made a critical mistake in waiting for their “local tour guide” to get her luggage in order to take them where they needed to go. And the money crunch hit them because they went out of their way to drop their “guide” off before heading to the prison.
– Erwin and Godwin paying their respects in the prison was a very nice gesture, and karma rewarded them with a first place finish.
– The “friendship alliance” continued as Lyn/Karyn, Tom/Terry and David/Mary all encouraged each other throughout the leg.
– Tom and Terry must not have read the part about not riding motorcylces correctly, since Erwin and Godwin had specifically said “I’m sorry, but we can’t”. It not only cost them second place, it nearly cost them the race.
– David and Mary ended up losing two places due to forgetting their bag.
– “Guys this has got to suck” – Phil Koeghan, talking to Tom and Terry during their penalty time.

That’s all for this week.
