The Canadian Press is reporting that Matt Hughes earned $130,000 for his UFC 63 win. His opponent, BJ Penn, earned $50,000 for the fight. The real winner of the night seems to be Jens “Little Evil” Pulver, who reportedly earned $30,000 for his loss to Joe Lauzon. Lauzon earned $6,000 for the upset win. UFC 63 drew 9,300 to the Arrowhead Pond, for a gate of $1,496,067, according to the CSAC.


Heath “Texas Crazy Horse” Herring has signed a four-fight contract with World Fighting Alliance. His first fight will be on December 9th at the Aladdin Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. This will be Herring’s first fight in the U.S. in seven years. No opponent has been announced as of yet. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson is also expected to be on the WFA card.

The Fight Network announced yesterday the signing of Randy “The Natural” Couture as lead anchor for the channel’s MMA coverage. “The Fight Network is going to be big and I am very excited to be a part of it,” said Couture in a prepared statement. “The television channel looks amazing, and the other places that Mike (Garrow) and Sandy (Winick) are looking to take the brand over the coming months and years is very encouraging to me, which is why I accepted this duel role of ambassador and analyst with The Fight Network, as it allows me to continue to stay connected with the sport that I love in a whole new way.”

I would be very excited about this news if anyone actually carried The Fight Network. They’re on, what, three cable systems in the United States? I must have thirty-seven Fox Sports channels between DirecTV and Insight Cable, but no TFN.


HERO’S has announced that Kestutis Smirnovas will replace Kazushi Sakuraba at their October 9th fight card. Sakuraba had to pull out of his scheduled semi-final fight with Yoshihiro Akiyama due to injury.

UFC named Rachel Campbell as their new Octagon Girl on Monday night during its UFC Octagon Girl Search special on Spike TV. Campbell received a one-year contract with UFC and a sponsorship deal with Xyience.


Rachel will make her debut at next week’s Ortiz vs. Shamrock III card on Spike TV.


Last week’s episode of The Ultimate Fighter drew a 1.3 overall rating. It was the same overall rating that the show drew on the 21st. So far TUF 4 has been the least-watched season of the series to date.

Spike TV is set to premiere a new UFC show, Inside the UFC, on Thursday, November 9th. Inside the UFC will be a weekly magazine show hosted by Joe Rogan.
