TNA At Ringside: No X Division Edition

Columns

Welcome back to ringside my friends. Before I start, I would like to wish my parents a Happy Birthday. Yes, my parents have the same birthday. Get this; they have the same Anniversary as well.

News & Shit

*BET is not just a TV channel

So TNA management has this bright idea to create a new stable that involves Ron Killings, Monty Brown, and Elix Skipper and to extend their bright idea, they are going to call the group BET, which of course stands for Black Efforts Trumped. I actually hope they go through with this stable. WWE has Cryme Tyme and it can’t be more of a satire than that. It also gives these three something to do and God knows that they all need something to do at this point in their career. Skipper and Killings are talented in the ring, Brown makes any promo interesting (good or bad), and together, they could take this and do something with it. No matter what you say, it can’t be any worse than what they’re currently doing.

*TNA looking to re-sign Sting

I honestly have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I am a Sting mark and it would be nice to see him do something that doesn’t involve Jeff Jarrett. On the other hand, Sting is only good in bunches and not for a full year. I guess as long as he stays away from Jarrett and he puts over talent like Joe and Christian, I don’t really have a problem with it.

All Over The Place

Are Bentley/Kazarian done jobbing yet? They could be a nice addition to the Tag Division or even the X Division yet every time they’re in a match, they job. I have no reason to care about them at this point as TNA doesn’t want me to care about them.

So because ICP is nothing but a bunch of clowns who look queer and spray faygo root beer named Faggy 2 Dope and Silent Gay who claim Detriot when they live 20 miles away, decided to no show the Impact tapings, TNA has decided to throw all of their tag teams into one match with the winner being the best”¦or something like that. While this match makes no sense to me as The Naturals should be facing Styles/Daniels at BFG, it’s A LOT better than Team 3-D vs. ICP, so I can’t complain too much now can I?

Holy shit, Jim Mitchell was allowed to talk. Anyone remember when TNA teased Joe/Abyss at last years Bound For Glory? Yeah, too bad it’s taken them a full year to actually pull the trigger on this feud and hell, it’s not even Joe vs. Abyss, it’s Joe vs. Abyss vs. Spike vs. Raven. Also, why the hell does Joe still have the belt? All the attention is on Joe with the belt and not on Sting vs. Jarrett, Career vs. Title. Again, I’m all for Joe having the belt but how about he actually wins the belt before he carries it around. I still don’t know what the hell TNA is doing with their main event scene, it seemed to clear up after last week but now, it’s even more complicated than before.

The Sting DVD actually looks like a decent buy. Again, I’ve been a Sting mark since 95 so this DVD might be worth picking up. If anything, I’ll download the damn thing.

I liked the footage of LAX attacking Styles. It gives them a reason not to have AJ on the show and it furthers the feud in a unique way. It also continues to show the gang mentality of LAX. They of course follow that up with a meaningless squash against some jobbers. I might be the minority here but I actually enjoy the promo work of Konnan. It’s not superstar level great but it’s a lot like JBL. Don’t take that the wrong way, JBL is much better on the mic than Konnan but back when JBL was Bradshaw, he couldn’t cut a promo to save his life. Well back when Konnan was K-Dawg or w/e and he tried to be a rap artist with Rey Mysterio, he sucked. A very good gimmick has fallen into his lap and he’s ran with it, so kudos to him.

Why the hell are Buff Bagwell and Lex Luger still on my TV screen? I honestly hope that Sting doesn’t re-sign Sting, that way I don’t have to put up with these two anymore.

So after months of “Don’t Fire Eric”, Eric gets fired. To make it worse, Shark Boy was the one who got the pin. When the hell was the last time Shark Boy won a match? Whatever, this can only lead to Eric Young coming back because we all know that in wrestling, no one is ever really fired.

I hate that Christian is involved with Jarrett (as I feel that being linked with Jarrett is the downfall of any heel in TNA) but I like that he’s not fully on his side, as evident by the promo. Thank God Christian is now heel, he looks like a whole new person with a whole new fire under his ass.

Aside from the randomness of Ron Killings, the main event was watchable but that’s to be expected with Daniels and Christian. I also liked that Jarrett stole the win (and the mic) from Christian, once again, showing that they aren’t on the same page and showing that Christian won’t be involved with Jarrett.

The ending brawl was to be expected and I guess it put a nice touch on things. I still don’t like Joe walking around with the belt and taking all the attention away from Sting/Jarrett but if it means Joe will be the champ by the end of the year, I can’t complain too much.

Overall it was a nice episode of Impact. It continued to build toward Bound For Glory and once again, that’s all you can ask. No X Division this week but that’s not really a bad thing considering the state of the division. I would have liked to see a video package or something of Chris Sabin or Low Ki though just to show that there’s still a match at the PPV. Hopefully the World Title Scene straightens out a bit next week and feuds become less intertwined with each other.

It’s Not WCW

So some retard on some site decided to make the following suggestion:

It was Starrcade of 1997, and Sting had made the amazing comeback to face the hated Hollywood Hogan. Bret Hart (who just joined wcw) as the special referee. Sting applied the Scorpion Deathlock and Hogan tapped and Bret signalled for the bell. In seconds wcw’s own Sting was being lifted up by WCW faces and he held the wcw world title high above himself as the nWo had fallen into defeat.

This is probably one of the only times WCW writers got it right and TNA should do the same thing with Kurt Angle

If anyone agrees with this, don’t order the PPV, and kill yourself because the whole Starrcade 1997 debacle was one of the many things that killed WCW. Instead of having Bret Hart come in and make an impact, he comes in and reminds everyone why he is in WCW in the first place and that is because WWF screwed him over.

But that was just the end of things. It started when WCW decided to build that PPV up for almost a year only to have Hogan win (there was no fast count my friends), not win, and then get screwed. Instead of doing a clean job to Sting, we needed over-booking to decide things. I’m not saying Jarrett has the ego of Hogan but at this point, I wouldn’t doubt it. If TNA follows this formula, the end is near.

Now I don’t know the whole story here and I am far too lazy to do research right now but maybe Brashear will do a special Great-ing Gimmicks on this story.
