Looking for a detailed recap? Trent Pusey’s got you covered over at Inside Fights.
Matt Hughes reappears on this show, and once again, he ends up looking like a smug bastard. But I suppose when you have his track record, you can afford to be. Still, I hope GSP beats his ass.
So the semifinals are set. For the middleweights, we’ve got Travis Lutter against Pete Sell in the only Blue/Grey matchup, and Patrick Cote versus Edwin Dewees in a battle of Guys Who Lost to Fratboy Leben. By virtue of the fact that they’re on different teams, I expect Lutter/Sell to be the better of the two. And by virtue of the fact that he’s Canadian, I’ll be rooting for Cote there.
Welterweights, we have Serra/Shonie 2, plus this week’s featured match, Din Thomas versus Chris Lytle.
Now, before we talk about the match, I have to say that sometimes, Dana White is so full of crap that I’m surprised he can look at himself in the mirror. He says he can’t pick a winner for this fight, yet I distinctly remember him picking Din Thomas to win the Welterweight title shot (and what amounts to $200,000). So his pick, therefore, is Din Thomas. Too close to call my ass.
Speaking of too close, that pretty much sums up the fight. 16 minutes of “sparring” showed us one thing – that training together for 4-5 weeks right up until your match versus each other is NOT a good thing. Din and Chris obviously knew each other’s strengths, and took pains to avoid situations that would allow the other to use those strengths. The result was some hits, a few takedowns, and not a real exciting match. You’d figure that these two wouldn’t just look at this as a title shot, but as a chance to impress the Almighty Dana White for employment down the road. I’m sure he was unimpressed. But hey, I’m sure BodogFight will take them.
Next week, it’s Serra vs Shonie. Hopefully we’ll see something that resembles action.
