In Hindsight – The Ultimate Fighter 4: The Comeback – Episode 4-10

Shows

Once again, Trent Pusey’s got you covered over at Inside Fights with his full recap of the show.

Kayfabe note: The door to Serra’s dressing room showed two names – Serra and Chris Lytle. So that would explain why Chris was shirtless and in gear for the posedown.

I’m not sure who is the bigger ass – Marc Laimon because he’s the expert swimmer who never got into the pool, or Matt Hughes, because he’s a shit disturber. Laimon probably. At least we know that Hughes can back it up. I wonder if he’ll be this cocky after GSP knocks the farm boy on his ass?

Jorge Rivera lightens up the mood during Team No Wins’ training session by dressing as “Phonie” Carter. I hope that those weren’t actually Shonie’s trunks. Anyways, the fact that they’re just clowning around (literally) does not bode well for Travis Lutter when he fights Pete Sell.

Ladies and gentlemen, the inimitable Shonie Carter:

“Whatcha gonna do when you have a pink and blue polka dot 45 magnum pointed at you?”

Personally, I’d tell Shonie to get it looked at. I’m not sure what he’s talking about, but I don’t think it’s meant to be pink and blue with polka dots.

“Mr. International” Shonie Carter vs Matt “Da Terrah” Serra
Round 1

Matt started out strong, but Shonie got a belly-to-belly suplex on him and took control from there. The backfist was nice but Shonie ended up hitting Matt more with the forearm/elbow and there wasn’t as much force on it as he probably would’ve liked. Still, Serra was rocked from that shot and was probably lucky that the round was almost up at that point. I gave the round to Shonie, 10-9

Round 2
Shonie started to tire a bit in this round. Matt took advantage by taking him down a few times and staying busy trying to get a submission on the crafty Carter. My favourite part was Matt’s kick at the end which looked like it was straight out of Karate Champ. You know, the game from Bloodsport.

Anyways, it’s pretty unanimous that Matt won that round so it looks like we’re tied up going to…

Round 3
The final round resembles a chess match for about two minutes as both fighters are a bit tentative but eventually we get the same story – Matt goes for a takedown and Shonie tries to defend. Matt does take him down though, they get back up, and Matt gets a nice looking German suplex to earn some points and put Shonie behind. Again, Matt looks to finish but Shonie shows resilience by hanging in there. However Serra’s clearly more agreesive and it’s likely that he took the round and the win.

And sure enough, Matt gets an unanimous decision victory.

This was a much better fight than Thomas/Lytle in that both guys stayed busy once the fight hit the ground and they looked like they actually wanted to beat the other guy. Good job.

Next week, we get some hot, heavy, middleweight action between Pete Sell and Travis Lutter.
