Pancakes In the Age of Enlightenment: Week 8 AFC East

What’s your job like? Because, at my job, I leave my house at 7:45 AM, and get home at 8:15 PM. When I get home, I spout my thoughts on the AFC East. My life for you.

If you want proof that the AFC has passed the torch of being the dominant conference to the NFC, look no further than the fact that the New York Jets are 4-3.

The Jets have a winning record despite having the 19th ranked offense in the league, and the 30th ranked defense. Fortunately for them, they have had a schedule that set meetings with crapcakes like the Titans, Bills, and Dolphins (not to mention the NFC’s Lions).

Can the Jets make the playoffs? They have dates left with the Browns, Texans, Packers, Bills, Dolphins, and Raiders. That could easily be 6 more wins right there, which would give them 10, and would mean they could make the playoffs without beating a team in the same area code as .500 all year. Hell, Leon Washington might run for 120 yards every week against that group of teams.

I’m really looking forward to Monday’s Pats/Vikings game. The Pats are clearly one of the 3 best teams in the AFC, and they’ll be meeting a team that just might be one of the 3 best in the NFC.

People forget, that were it not for a Chester Taylor fumble late in a game where the Vikings were beating the Bears and in position to run the clock out, the Vikings would be 5-1, and would be have to be in the discussion about who the best team in the league is.

The Pats are in prime time back to back weeks. After the Monday night tilt in Minnesota, the face the Colts in Foxboro on Sunday Night the following week.

There’s alot of good places to point fingers in Miami. Mine is pointing at Ronnie Brown.

The #2 pick in the 05 draft has now played in 22 NFL games. He has 1371 yards to show for it. That’s an average of 62.3 yards per game. Granted, next to Cedric Benson he looks like Red Grange, but running backs have short shelf lives. They need to produce right away, because tomorrow is not promised to people who have 300 pound linemen trying to drive them into the soil 20-25 times every Sunday. Brown’s clock is ticking.

The Bills will be shuffling around their offensive linemen this week. The right tackle is moving to left tackle. The left tackle is moving to left guard. A new right tackle is being brought off the bench. JP Losman is staying right where he is though. In a semi-related note, today marks the 94th anniversary of the rearranging of the deck chairs on the Titanic.

That’s your AFC East update for this week. Tomorrow’s a Happy Friday, and I will give you a look at the NFC North.
