Counterfeit Pennies: Taking TNA over Cyber Sunday

Columns

Undoubtedly, TNA’s Bound for Glory event was the biggest Pay-per-View of the year for a company whose time to strike is now. And with a move to prime time on November 16th as well as Kurt Angle vs. Samoa Joe on the horizon, TNA has suddenly become the most intriguing professional wrestling organization to keep an eye on right now.

While WWE throws its fans the proverbial bone with its super-hyped interactive marketing ploy known as Cyber Sunday on November 5th, all TNA has done is proactively lay the foundation to the most compelling wrestling feud in years.

Let’s put it this way: Would you rather see the Main Event at Cyber Sunday — John Cena vs. King Booker vs. Big Show in the much-ballyhooed Champion of Champions match (otherwise known as a triple threat sports entertainment match between three guys who have been in the ring with each other three times per week for the past two months), or Olympic Gold Medalist and former WWE Champ Kurt Angle against the undefeated talk of the industry — Samoa Joe (see Umaga for WWE’s Samoan rip-off) — in a wrestling match filled with freshness and revitalized intensity in both competitors?

In other words, voting only makes a difference when the cause is worth supporting, and I’d much rather let the TNA regime make decisions with two true diamonds than waste my efforts on Fool’s Gold.

This is the True Story of When The Miz became UNWATCHABLE: The Miz is undefeated? Really? That’s almost as bizarre as Mae Young birthing a hand or Triple H screwing a mannequin! Not to worry, though, I have a feeling this angle will last as long as Gail Kim’s WWE Women’s Title Run”¦

Note on Corporal Kirchner: With the saddening life losses of countless professional wrestlers over the past few years, it was good to see that Corporal (Michael) Kirchner is actually still alive and well. No punchline here, just genuine relief that we received news of a former wrestler who didn’t die this past week.

You don’t know how many other times I wish I could have reported that same news in this column”¦
