Richly Deserved: The Amazing Race Episode 10-7

Shows

I don’t think I’ve been this emotional about an episode of The Amazing Race since the family edition made Toronto their second-last destination.

It’s not often Mauritius is showcased to a North American audience and the island in the Indian Ocean where my dad’s side of the family hails from did itself very, very proud in this episode. I even thought about bending the rules of the Reality TV Honor Roll and giving Mauritius an honorary spot (It’s a contestant’s list, so I won’t).

I haven’t been there since 1974 when I was just seven years old. Perhaps I’ll have to start thinking about a return visit.

Was there any doubt this was going to be a non-elimination leg? Both detour tasks involved too much luck and you don’t want to see someone eliminated on that basis. Besides, there’s still a month to
go and we only have six teams.

Couple more things. Could they not have done a task involving sugar cane? And why was there no mention of Mauritius being “home of the dodo”?

So how did everyone do? Here we go.

DUSTIN AND KANDACE
They do tend to grate on me. They were almost mocking the teams they were in front of and I’m never going to be a fan of that. They were trying to get tickets for Tyler and James in front of Lyn and Karlyn so they deserved the confrontation they got. They were lucky the accident scene did not take too much time. Overall though, they executed the leg very well and are well deserving of first place. And they do look really hot in a bikini.

TYLER AND JAMES
First of all, I wish to thank them for coming the closest to the proper pronounciation of Mauritius (Mo-rish-us). They too tried to get under the skin of Lyn and Karlyn. They had a lot of problems on the roadways. They accused the Chos of aligning with weaker teams so they have an advantage at the end. But they were sharp enough to bail on the salt detour and go for the sail one. Their athleticism holds them in good stead for later in the race.

ROB AND KIMBERLEY
Last week I was wondering if they were given the same invisible editing as Kris and Jon (who finished second in TAR6. Really! I’m not pulling your leg). But this week, we saw the same Rob and Kimberley we saw earlier in the race. Not really that polite, and yelling and stressing out at each other. But somehow they manage to do a few things right and stay one of the more competitive teams in the race.

EDWIN AND GODWIN
The Chos insist they are stronger having the alliance with Lyn and Karlyn and David and Mary (The three teams now known as the Six Pack, not to be confused with the Sovereign Six from Big Brother 6). But they might have to realize at some point that those weaker teams can bring them down too. In any case, they’re great guys and should be there at the end.

LYN AND KARLYN
They can be quite sour, eh? But I still give Alabama credit for a decent leg in which at least they’re not last.

DAVID AND MARY
Last again. In a non-elimination leg, again. Hopefully the producers won’t mind hearing the same accusations they heard last season when B.J. and Tyler survived two non-elims and ended up winning. This team isn’t winning anything but our admiration. Even the teams not in an alliance with them, like them.

Next week, a team is forced to work with Dustin and Kandace. I think that kind of torture deserves a fast forward.
