Random Reality – First Look at Keys to the VIP

Shows

What is one thing that men around the world have in common? What binds us in our manhood? The pursuit of women, of course. Sure, guys can say they are lucky with the ladies. They can call themselves “players”, but more times than not they end up going home home alone. It’s time to put up or shut up on Canada’s The Comedy Network.

A new show on The Comedy Network called Keys to the VIP will premiere on Tuesday, October 31 at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT and will air on Tuesday nights for 13 weeks. Keys to the VIP is all about the pursuit of women, and the men who think they have the “game” to get them. Each episode showcases the “skills” of two, young, so-called studs as they compete against each other in three hilarious rounds of pick-up challenges, in an attempt to demonstrate their superior seductive prowess in the real-life battlefield of big-city bars and night clubs. The challenges were shot using eight hidden microphones and three strategically placed hidden cameras. The challenges include getting the girl to buy all of their drinks (“The Reverse Gold Digger”), sharing a cab ride home with that “special” gal (“The Hitchhiker”), chalking up as many make-out sessions as possible (“Sunshine Round”), and keeping the conversation away from the girl and all about the player (“The Narcissist”), among others.

Back at the “VIP Lounge,” a panel of pick-up gurus by the names of Alen, Peachez, Sheldon and Chris observe the competitors in action while delivering their no-holds-barred thoughts on each performance. At the end of each episode, the panel picks a winner based on who demonstrates the most “game.” The champ is awarded “the keys to the VIP”, which is a VIP club experience complete with limo and bottle service at an exclusive night club.

To kick off the series, Comedy Network viewers have a chance to win a trip for two to Las Vegas – including return airfare, three nights at the Hard Rock Casino and limo service to and from the airport – by entering the Keys to the VIP “VIP Vegas” contest. To enter, viewers need to tune in to Keys to the VIP Tuesdays from Oct. 31 to Nov. 21 and look for a secret password in each episode. By entering the password at www.comedynetwork.ca, contestants will be entered into a random draw for a chance to win.

I saw the first episode, which is probably the only one I’ll get to see since I don’t live in Canada, and I thought it was extremely funny. I like the whole concept of the show and it’s definitely an unique idea. In the first episode, Mark a.k.a. “The Baron” and Kyle a.k.a. “The Terminator” battled it out in three different challenges that featured them trying to make random women laugh in three minutes or less (“The Laugh Factor”), initiating a conversation with a woman by insulting her shoes or outfit and still be able to get her number in 5 minutes or less (“Recovery”), and convincing girls that they are unemployed artists living at home with their parents and still being able to make out with them in the end (“Starving Artist”). This all took place in the Grass nightclub.

What I like about the show is that the 4 panelists made fun of the guys on the show. But still they ended up being impressed by how much “game” these guys had in the end. It’s also funny to see these guys in a real setting trying to pick up women. The reactions from the girls are real as well. You can tell these are not “staged” reactions like some other “dating shows”. That’s what I liked. And really this show is all supposed to be fun and games and the episode I saw was a fine example of this.

Of course, we really don’t know if Alen, Peachez, Chris, and Sheldon are as big of “players” as they say they are, but they sound like they know what they are talking about. We’ll just have to take their word for it, because they did end up making the show. It would be nice if we saw them in “action” more, but the show is still good regardless. The only thing that would make the show better is if it was airing in the United States as well. Yes, the guys seem too arrogant at times, but you can’t help but laugh at them. All male Canadians should love this show and seek it out on The Comedy Network.

Sir Linksalot: Reality Television

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
