Ring of Honor News

The biggest news will be addressed in the upcoming shows portion as I take a look at this weekend’s shows, which look awesome, by the way. Additional news marks the return of BJ Whitmer slightly ahead of schedule. Whitmer injured his ankle at the hands of Jimmy Jacobs, and the two former tag champions will eventually meet in a match on November 25th. Matches between the two have been unbelievable featuring top rope powerbombs to the outside, both successful and unsuccessful, extreme violence, and top notch wrestling. This feud promises to last for a while.

Ring of Honor Results

Last weekend Ring of Honor ran a Midwest double shot in Dayton and Chicago. The undercard went as follows:

Ring of Honor World Champion “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson defeated Sal Rinauro.

Shingo continued his undefeated streak beating the maligned former Crown Jewel of the Embassy, Jimmy Rave.

Irish Airborne got a huge win over Jimmy Jacobs and Colt Cabana in a match that saw BJ Whitmer threaten the health and safety of Jacobs

Brent Albright made his debut in a loss to Chris Daniels and earned a booking the next night and in the future for his efforts.

Roderick Strong won a four corner survival over Tank Tolland, Chris Hero, and Mark Briscoe by making Hero tap out. This brought out Claudio Castagnoli who attacked Strong.

Aries came out to make the save and his match with Claudio was on. It resulted in a win for the real Starr of Ring of Honor.

Davey Richards beat Jay Briscoe and Delirious beat Matt Sydal to continue his momentum into his World Title shot in Boston.

The main event saw Homicide and Samoa Joe defeat Steve Corino and Adam Pearce. After the match Corino attacked Homicide and tried to smother him with a plastic bag. He was eventually saved by members of the RoH locker room.

Saturday in Chicago saw what looks to be an equally impressive card on paper, especially the main event.

Pearce and his man servant Shane Hagadorn beat Irish Airborne after some chicanery, skullduggery, and ballyhoo.

After putting Roderick Strong through a table Shingo continued his winning ways. This led to a confrontation between the two later in the show.

Jimmy Jacobs and Colt Cabana got a win over Jimmy Rave and Sal Rinauro. Rave continuing his frustration with loss dissolved the relationship with Rinauro. Also after the match Lacey offered Cabana a chance to join Lacey’s Angels, Cabana refused and tried to convince Jacobs to drop Lacey. Jimmy seemed convinced, but then attacked Cabana with Lacey’s heels only for BJ Whitmer to make the save.

Steve Corino beat Delirious using Hagadorn’s Top of the Class Trophy. Todd Sinclair then reversed the decision, but Cornette came back and informed the senior official that his job depended on him sticking with the original choice.

Christopher Daniels beat Austin Aries and Brent Albright defeated Trik Davis in the next two matches.

Matt Sydal defeated Jay Briscoe which brought out Mark Briscoe to attack Sydal. Davey Richards made the save leading to a match between the two which saw Davey come out on top. Defeating both Briscoes has led to a tag match between The Briscoes and Richards and Delirious at the show this Friday in Philly.

The main event saw Samoa Joe finally get a win against American Dragon in a match that finally didn’t end in a draw. As a result Joe will get a title match, if Dragon is still champion, inside a steel cage when RoH returns to Chicago for a double shot in December.

The cards really speak for themselves and need no direct hype. The big matches are of course the Six Man War involving Homicide, Joe, and BJ Whitmer making his return to active competition facing Steve Corino, and the Briscoes. It was two years ago that Joe teamed with the Briscoes to face Homicide and the Havana Pitbulls, so it is kind of interesting to see the sides reversed a bit.

The tag titles and World title are on the line as the Kings of Wrestling make their first defense. It will be a rematch against the men they took the belts from Austin Aries and Roderick Strong. Delirious will also get his third shot at the World Title. Will the third time be the charm, probably not, but the match should be good.

This will also be KENTA’s last weekend in RoH for quite some time. First he will team with Davey Richards against Aries and Strong, and in his final match for a while he will face Matt Sydal. Matt Sydal has been receiving and there is a decent chance that he will defeat KENTA, but again probably not.

The biggest match though ties in with the main part of the column.

A Huge Feud Draws to a Close?

Homicide and Steve Corino have been at odds with one another since basically the beginning of the company. The feuded started when Corino acted as Homicide’s partner. Homicide was disappointed with Corino’s performance, and fighting ensued. Next was the infamous riot in New York City for the first anniversary. Bitter Friends Stiffer Enemies saw Homicide shatter Steve Corino’s ear drum in a blood-filled match. The feud continued with the first no rope barbed wire match in RoH history. It may have actually been less bloody than the first encounter but there was violence a plenty. Corino got the win and stated that he had achieved all he needed to in Ring of Honor. Many thought that would be the end of the feud.

Corino made his return aiding CM Punk while he was feuding with Generation Next. Homicide immediately came out to confront his arch nemesis. No direct match resulted from this appearance of Corino, but the hatred was still very much in place.

Corino again departed, but made his return to aid Colt Cabana in his blood feud with Homicide. The Notorious 187 threatened Corino with draino and other violent punishments, most of which ended up causing more strife for Cabana. The two even got in the ring a few times, and nothing was settled.

All of this should change this weekend. They meet in the ring in tag team action on Friday and then on Saturday they face in a Fight without Honor. Ring of Honor has always delivered in these Fights without Honor and this will be no different. This has really been a feud without honor. This is a match I don’t think will end with a handshake, although stranger things have happened.

The match could rise to new levels of violence and bloodshed that Ring of Honor has never seen before. The winner of this match doesn’t much matter but I think odds point to Homicide. There is a chance that Corino will win due to Cornette’s recent power trip.

Now referring to the question mark, it seems that when Ring of Honor says a feud will end, something happens to prolong it. That could happen here. Many are speculating that this feud will never really end. We will have to see what happens on Saturday.
