Reality Dish Presents Yo Momma Week – Friday – Josh Clinton Interviews Sam Sarpong

Features, Interviews, Shows

To finish off a successful YO MOMMA WEEK on RealityDish.com, I had the chance to interview one of the co-hosts of the show yesterday. He’s my favorite host on the show, but it’s not the most famous one. So I wanted to learn more about him and more about the show. Here is how my interview with Sam Sarpong went down…

Josh Clinton You’ve done some modeling, acting, and some music in the past. What did you do first?

Sam Sarpong: I started acting first. And then in 1997 I did a campaign for Tommy Hilfiger and that lasted for 6 years.

JC: Between Music, Acting, and Modeling, which do you like to do the most?

SS: I like doing it all for different reasons. I like doing music to inspire people, and I like acting so I can be in different roles and play different people.

JC: Do you have a favorite actor that you admire the most?

SS: Will Smith. I like how his whole career started and progressed.

JC: How did you get on Yo Momma?

SS: I was already working with MTV on a documentary series for them, and they needed a co-host for the show. So I went and auditioned and got the job.

JC: So far this season, we have seen that you went to Brooklyn and Manhattan. What about Queens, Staten Island, and the Bronx? Did you go to the other boroughs of New York City in this season?

SS: Yeah, we went all over the place.

JC: How long did it take to film this season?

SS: It was around 3 months, on and off.

JC: What’s it like working with Wilmer?

SS: He’s really cool. He’s down-to-earth and very humble about his fame. He’s always thinking of the next thing to accomplish, which I admire a lot. So it’s great to work with him.

JC: Was there any differences between the Los Angeles contestants and New York City contestants?

SS: New York was more creative. They saw the first season in Los Angeles and they knew what the show was all about. They were more familiar with the jokes and knew that had to be better this year. So they were more creative.

JC: Do you have a favorite “yo momma” joke yourself?

SS: Not really. Not just one, but I like the really creative ones.

JC: Do you, Wilmer, and Jason tell “yo momma” jokes to each other?

SS: We don’t really tell them to each other. We do reminisce with each other about our favorite “yo momma” jokes, though.

JC: Is there a moment or joke on the show that sticks out the most to you?

SS: The one joke I remember the most is the one from last season, where a guy said, “I was going to talk about yo momma, but I’ll let you. Here’s some chapstick.” And then he drops some “chapstick” to the ground, but it’s really deodorant because the other guy’s lips were so big. That was really creative.

JC: Do you have a favorite person that has been on the show so far?

SS: I liked the “Best of Los Angeles” winner last week. His name was Harp, and he’s not the traditional trash talker that you expect to find on this show. We mostly go to the hoods to find these people. And for him to win it all, it shows that anyone can win. Anything is possible.

JC: What is the future of the show? Will there be a new season somewhere else?

SS: There will be a third season that is going to be set in Atlanta. That starts shooting in January.` So it will be out sometime next year.

JC: What’s next for you besides Yo Momma?

SS: I have a few movies coming out including a boxing movie called Consequences. I really enjoy acting a lot.

Sir Linksalot: Yo Momma

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
