In Hindsight: Battlestar Galactica Episode 3-5, "Collaborators"

Shows

I’m finally caught up with BSG only to fall right back behind with a new episode tonight and me going to the Raptors home opener. My cousin’s got season tix, and sure they’re in the nosebleeds, but a free game is a free game. Also, I’m assuming that there’s a new episode tonight. I still haven’t figured out when Space/CITY shows BSG up here. And apparently, everyone that reviews this show on PTP (Closs, TMC, me) is from Canada, so we all have the same problem…

(Note: after I posted this, I figured out that it was Saturdays at 9pm – Kevin)

So the first four episodes (plus the webisodes, which better be included in the Season 3.0 set) were pretty heavy what with the occupation of New Caprica, the insurgents, the possible commentary about the occupation of Iraq and of course, Apollo (rim shot). Speaking of which, nice job sacrificing the newer, more modern Pegasus for the old, rickety Galactica. Yes, I know the show isn’t Battlestar Pegasus, but seriously, not smart, dude. Lay off the fried stuff.

Regardless, those were some intense, location-driven episodes, so it’s time to go back to the old sets and have a nice quiet “downtime” episode. Which starts out with Jammer getting boom tubed for his “crimes against humanity”. So much for quiet.

So this “Circle” is carrying out clandestine trials under the executive orders of the President, Tom Zarek, who is soon to be the ex-President when he resigns in favour of Roslin. In case your wondering, the Presidential shenanigans tie it with that of the Presidential shenanigans in 24, but Roslin somehow ends up back in power, so I say BSG wins. Back to the Circle. Six people – three Fleet members, three Caprica resistance fighters – look at a picture, some token evidence, and declare whether a person is guilty or innocent. To me, this is basically how I’d expect Cardassian justice to be meted out, prior to the show trial.

Anyways, this naturally comes to a head when Gaeta’s name is on the chopping block, and after Tyrol confirms that Gaeta was the Mole, everything is well and good. Well except that only Gaeta and the Circle know he was the Mole. Gaeta’s gonna get lynched at some point unless Roslin gives him a medal, pardons be damned.

But at least Zarek’s still a conniving bastard. You gotta love that.
