BLATT vs. ECW on SciFi for November 7th, 2006

Well, it looks like not only has ECW become an afterthought for the WWE and Vince, but is also falling out of favor with everyone. This week we’ve got more live BLATT vs. ECW, straight from Michael Hayes’ writers block. The show is apparently so low on the list that the first ECW PPV is rumored to have a Smackdown! main eventer in the Extreme Elimination Chamber match. This is of course looking like it’s more and more likely because of Paul Heyman’s announcement about the final spot in the chamber. I’m still debating how much better ECW is than Velocity. I still am in love with the Paul London vs. Akio series of matches that were featured way back when.

If you haven’t heard, the WWE has announced a match line-up for the upcoming Extreme Rules DVD. It’ll be up on IPW soon.

Show opens with a video of last week’s main event of Test & the Big Show vs. RVD and Hardcore Holly.

CM Punk over Mike Knox by Anaconda Vice
Nice way to start the show. The crowd is hot for CM Punk, just as most of the ECW crowds have been. Kelly Kelly gets sent to the back before the match begins and we’re left without distractions for the match. This one is for a spot in the EECM at D2D. This is size vs. speed, which is different than CM Punk’s other matches where he basically steamrolled through his opponents. Mike Knox is draining the energy from this match. It’s very clear that one of these guys came up through the WWE farm system and one of these guys came up through the indies and Ring of Honor. Maybe the guy who applied the rear naked choke mid-match to visibly catch his breath will give you a hint. I’ll give Knox some credit for keeping the match semi-exciting towards the end.

CM Punk is heading towards the EECM and Mike Knox is heading towards mid-card obscurity. I’m not sure if they’re going to continue this feud after Punk just beat the hell out of Knox clean and in the middle of the ring. This is wrestling after all, so I’m not expecting this feud to end any time soon.

Elijah Burke and Sylvester Terkay are backstage making another “hey, we’re in ECW now!” promo. They might as well say “Michael Hayes? Why did you send us here? We didn’t even have one single feud on Smackdown! Yet.

Heyman’s music hits and he’s out to the ring with his security force with the Gorilla mask from last week. Thanks Paul, another reminder that my ECW is dead and gone. Don’t worry, it doesn’t hurt at all. He’s there to announce that he’s gonna fight with the Big Show against RVD and Hardcore Holly, and that next week we’re going to have an open challenge for anyone who wants a spot in the EECM. Whatever Paul.

Little Guido and Trinity are in the ring, which means we’re about to see a squash. Davairi’s music hits and that question is answered.

Nice shiny purple pants on Davairi. I guess he left his pants at home and took Sabu’s instead. I don’t know what you think you need to know about this match. Maybe you missed that I said that an ECW Original that isn’t the Sandman, RVD, Sabu or Balls Mahoney. That means he’s got the same chance that Justin Credible would have. There’s one guy that saw the writing on the walls. Post match Khali chokeslams Little Guido to add insult to insult. I wonder which is in worse shape, Khali’s knees or Big Show’s back?

So we’ve got Test and Dreamer for a spot in the EECM? Yeah, cause we’ve seen enough Tommy Dreamer lately to think that he’s got a chance to be in the EECW. Before we get to it though, we’re forced to sit through another promo for The Marine. John Cena has been growing with me a bit lately, but this crap week in and week out has made me want to hate John Cena. I think the WWE has aired more commercials for this movie during their shows than they put effort into that movie. If you don’t believe me, check out the Geekdrome review of The Marine from Johnathan London (brother of Paul London) in the October 30th episode.
