TV Babies: Gilmore Girls in trouble. Call to discuss…

Shows

I should’ve known I wasn’t going to be a big fan of Go Bulldogs! for two reasons:

1. I never have that much fun when we’re on the Yale campus. And even less fun at the Yale Daily News.
2. As we all know by now, I’m not a Lorelai-Christopher supporter. Should the couple have a name by now? Lorepher. Christelai. Nope, doesn’t work”¦

So it’s Parents’ Weekend at Yale. Lorelai’s clueless and could care less, but Christopher sees it as an opportunity to make up for years of neglect and indifference. Rory, a senior, is rightfully a bit surprised by the ‘rents attendance. But she’s busy running the paper anyway. Lorelai and Christopher are able to sneak in a lunch with their busy daughter, which turns into a drunken boondoggle with the entire Yale Daily News staff. Christopher sure knows how to throw that inherited money around. And Lorelai gets to trump Richard & Emily by taking Rory to the very same chic French restaurant they were planning on taking Rory for dinner. It’s Parents’ Weekend, not Grandparents’ Weekend!

Let’s talk about Lorelai for a moment. I’ve been watching Gilmore Girls since the pilot,
and this was without a doubt one of her worst performances. About 7% of what she said
was funny, and she had way too much to say – even for her. Even Christopher seemed annoyed. Note to writers: quit trying so hard. The Provost line wasn’t that funny the first time, let alone the fourteenth”¦

In Stars Hollow, Kirk is feeling suffocated by Lulu and decides it might be high time to cut her loose. Luke thankfully brings him to his senses, but that rant from Kirk about having no one to answer to (read: Lorelai) definitely got to him. I liked Luke’s scenes with April (and Lane’s as well). His date with the swimming instructor was quite painful, though. The highlight of the episode: Sookie’s brief fling with non-Jackson vegetables.

Near the end of Go Bulldogs!, Lorelai and Christopher are walking on campus together. And all I could think was: this show would have been boring if they had been together all along”¦

What did you guys think? Am I being too harsh? Next week won’t get any easier, judging from that teaser for The Proposal in Paris“¦
