Hello everyone, my name is Kevin Wong a.k.a. “The Reality TV Guy Not Named Murtz”, and this is YOUR preview for The Ultimate Fighter 4: The Comeback, Finale.
The Finale was supposed to feature TUF 3 winner Michael Bisping taking on Eric Schafer, but apparently there were some visa issues getting Bisping into the country, so the fight is off. How you fail to get your fighter a visa when there is ample time to do so amazes me.
Anyways, the fight will be replaced on TV with one of the undercard bouts, so here we go:
Fight #1
Middleweights: Edwin “Bamm Bamm” Dewees vs. Jorge “El Conquistador” Rivera
Edwin’s a pretty good grappler, and Jorge hasn’t shown me a whole lot in terms of his ground game. He hasn’t shown me a lot in terms of his striking, either. Both guys are making their return to the Octagon after losing to Chris Leben. I don’t think Jorge can stop Edwin’s takedowns, but I’m not sure that Dewees can finish him. Still, Edwin’s fighting because he wants to fight. Jorge is fighting for the paycheck. Being a grinder might work in the cash games, but I’m thinking that Edwin’s treating this like a tournament.
Prediction: Edwin Dewees, Decision.
Fight #2
Lightweights: Rich “No Love” Clementi vs. Din “DinYero” Thomas
I’ll be honest – I wasn’t all that impressed by Clementi during his time on the show. However, I don’t expect the level of “respect” a.k.a. “Lay and Pray” we saw in the Thomas/Lytle match from Clementi, which should mean an exciting match from him and Thomas. Thomas has won 50% of his fights since 2005, so he should be hungry for a win. And to be honest, I don’t see Clementi beating him.
Prediction: Din Thomas, Submission R2
Fight #3
Welterweights: Chris “Lights Out” Lytle vs. Matt “The Terror” Serra
OK, hands up if you think Matt Serra is gonna win.
Yeah, I dind’t think so, either. Serra is good enough to be able to avoid any submission attempts, but I think that Lytle will pull out a victory in the end. This has the potential to be Rashad Evans boring.
Prediction: Chris Lytle, Decision.
Fight #4
Middleweights: Patrick “The Predator” Coté vs. Travis Lutter
As with Dewees/Rivera, we have a striker/grappler match, but if Coté has been training with Georges St. Pierre, he could have a decided advantage since GSP is also training to face a tough grappler. Some guy named Hughes. It’s cliché to say that it will come down to whomever imposes their will, but that’s what it will come down to.
Prediction: Coté by decision. What can I say? I’m Canadian, and biased.
Come back late Saturday/early Sunday as I post the inevitable email from Lei Tong telling me that I’m an idiot and the recap for the finale of The Ultimate Fighter 4.
