Make Movement: Overxposed RAW

Columns

A DX heavy show will bring the steady ratings, no matter what you read from any of us about whether or not it’s the right decision to have a DX heavy show. Where is the rest of the talent on RAW? Oh, they are looking like clowns for the benefit of DX. I don’t remember that many jobbers on the roster before DX united, and I am a DX fan. I was thinking last night, I wonder what Charlie Haas makes to spend each week, not being taken seriously as a wrestler, to get paired with Viscera, to always get pinned by the faces. What is Charlie Haas offense anyway?

Remember when I said John Cena gets too much exposure? Well, he was barely on this week and the crowd was still divided on whether they like him as he fought Umaga of all people. Umaga should be the complete heel right now, but yet, some people hate Cena that much. I’m thrilled that we weren’t tortured to see more behind-the-scenes (the whole movie in a five minute package) of The Marine. I am truly amazed that the three biggest faces on RAW: Shawn Michaels, Triple H and John Cena are never actually on at the same time anymore. They no longer rescue each other, they might as well be on two separate shows.

When the talent does shine through, among the gags, Shawn Michaels worrying about him getting fat when he’s nervous and a two hour show mostly about tag teams getting destroyed, Jeff Hardy and Nitro put on a good TV match in their lonely IC division. It’s nice to know you can count on the IC guys to point on a good match, and it’s very nice to see a title actually change on TV for once. Yes, the WWE Tag Team belts changed to Edge and Randy Orton, because it’s all about keeping that belt warm for you know who. At least with the IC division, everyone’s in shape and there is more suspense about who could actually have the belt among Hardy, Nitro, Shelton and Carlito. I guess Chris Masters is back to being the Masterlock Challenge spot since he can’t take off with the audience beyond his entrance.

I felt this show was more enjoyable than last week’s because at least the content was lighter. There is nothing worse than watching Eric Bischoff getting on a power trip for two hours, with nothing to lighten the mood. With no Bischoff on TV this week, Eric will just attempt to bury Coach next week for being a idiot. I thought the content with Lita and Mickie James worked, good promo lines, more ‘how many ways can we tie Mickie James in a match’ handicap stipulations, as I hope leads to a No DQ match at Survivor Series. I’m really tired of Jim Ross telling us Mickie is taking medication to keep her from being loco. I like crazy Mickie, crazy Mickie is fun and unpredictable, fans liked crazy Mickie, even when they weren’t supposed to.

More teasing of the Spirit Squad as Kenny does his Owen Hart impression (Owen does it better of course but at least someone on the Spirit Squad has a character, and I don’t even like Kenny). This would have been a great night to debut Davey Boy Smith’s son on the roster if he’s still signed like I assume he is, but another missed opportunity by the WWE. And, unless I missed it, no mention of Eddy Guerrero’s one year anniversary of his passing. It’s hard to believe it’s been a year and I will always miss Eddy. Long live Latino Heat, we miss Eddy’s joy of performing, his smile, his amazing skills and the genuine love that illuminated from him when he performed for all of us. Thanks Eddy again for everything you still mean to those of us who still care about pro wrestling and your legacy.
