DCNV: Special Edition

News

BREAKING NEWS (or it is for us anyway)!

Excellent poster and even better ally Talowolf brings us this Wizard World Texas update. Enjoy his truths and stick around for my baseless criticism.

This year’s panel was kinda pitiful in my opinion. Only Bob Wayne showed up and I never can get over audience members asking story questions to the VP of Sales. But anyhoo…

1) The cover to JLA number 6 will be an Adam Hughes drawing of Black Canary. It’s the only cover I remember cause it was pretty gorgeous looking.

I concur. I even highlighted it in this week’s DCNV. Plug, plug.

2) Absolute Batman the Long Halloween will be out in April.

3) A statue based on the upcoming crossover of Batman and Spawn and a Fables statue with Bigby Wolf will both be out in June.

4) The prequel comics put out for Superman Returns will be collected in a trade soon.

5) A couple of new movies based on the Neil Gaiman properties of The Fountain and Project Stardust are in development.

It is wrong that I don’t really remember these at all?

6) There will be an updated version of the DC encyclopedia “eventually.” I tried to slip him Mathan’s e-mail, but was scared off by the people demanding All Star Batman and Robin info.

Thanks for giving it a shot, my friend. We’ll get our people on it straight away.

7) There won’t be any more Elseworld stories for the foreseeable future.

Hmm”¦interesting. Rumors I’ve heard indicate otherwise.

8) Absolute Sandman 2 will be out one year after Absolute Sandman number 1 hits. Number 3 doesn’t have a street date yet.

9) Two editions of Showcase will now be produced a month instead of just one. On a happy note, for DC, Wayne reported that Showcase was now outselling Marvel Essentials.

I don’t suppose that would have anything to do with the Showcases in question being the likes of Superman, Batman, or Green Lantern and the Essentials being Marvel Zombie, do you?

10) DC has no plans to put any collections on CD or DVD collections anytime soon, though they are pursuing more Web-based comics similar to Mega Tokyo.

What I’m really interested in seeing is DC expanding the online comics library they have. Putting up the first five issues of 52 was pretty smart and I’d love to see DC build on that.

Some subjects Mister Wayne would rather not talk about:

All Star Batman and Robin
The Watchmen movie
Any other DC “rumored” movies
Civil War
Kyle Rayner
Cassandra Cain
Character crossovers in other media, i.e. Bruce Wayne on Smallville.

I get most of these, but not all. Kyle Rayner? What’s so controversial about him these days?

He also took a show of hands on who wanted to see ongoing books of Secret Six and Frankenstein from 7 Soldiers. Many more supporters for Secret Six than Frankenstein despite my hard clapping and “wooing.”

That’s too bad. I like Secret Six, but I’d gladly sacrifice another Six mini or ongoing for the genius of a Frankenstein series penned by Morrison and drawn by Mahnke. Why can’t everyone just have the same exact opinions as me?

And…that’s about it. I was really missing Didio here if only so he could handle the more story centered questions.

Yeah, it’s odd there wouldn’t be at least one story guy there, but…who knows. Maybe WizardWorld Texas is not much of a deal.

In any case, there you go.

Thanks Talowolf. See you in the forums.
