Ranting in the UK – WWE Cyber Sunday

PPVs, Reviews

No I’m not dead I’ve just been really busy recently. Hope this was worth waiting for!

If you were hoping that WWE would present another lame duck show with an equally as bad main event then I guarantee that Cyber Sunday did not disappoint. Every year these interactive pay per views suck but at least the last two had great main events that made you think you hadn’t wasted all of your time. This year it was completely different with a mildly decent under card followed by some atrocious main bouts

The opener was Umaga Vs either Sandman. Kane or Chris Benoit with the fans getting to choose the opponent. Despite me voting Benoit 100 times, in hopes of a good match, Kane won by a landslide and proceeded to have his worst match with Umaga since their whole series began. These men seem to have anti chemistry with each other and forcing them together again and again to continue a feud no one cares about is ridiculous. Literally 1 minute of this atrocity was worth watching and that was the well worked ending sequence. Everything else was death. A thoroughly wretched opener in every way. In case you care it was Umaga who walked out with the win.
I’ll give it ½*

The show picked up considerably with the Cryme Time Vs Cade & Murdoch Vs Viscera and Hass Vs Highlanders match. I can’t really remember all the choices but basically they weren’t that different from each other. This match had all 8 guys in the ring at once so needless to say it was chaotic but in a good way. Cryme Time were the standouts as they hit a bunch of crisp spots and had the crowd rocking at the end. The saddest thing about this match though was how it highlighted the fall of C & M and Highlanders. WWE had a chance to elevate both teams within the past month or so but didn’t pull the trigger and as a result they’re floundering in the mid card with no direction or storylines. It especially rubs me about C & M because they could have really gained something from their feud with DX but instead they were buried and treated like a joke.
Anyway I’ll give this one ** as I found it fun and entertaining

Jeff Hardy defended his Intercontinental Championship against a choice of Johnny Nitro, Shelton Benjamin and Carlito. Not surprisingly Carlito won, and nearly too half the vote in the process. The match itself was very good despite a really nasty slow part in the middle. Outside of that it was all action and both guys seemed to have the exact connection that Kane and Umaga lack. The match just felt like it had a really good flow and both guys did a great job building to the finish. The best part was that I honestly didn’t know who was going over and I was really getting into the near falls. Hardy has been watchable since his return, much better than his TNA work, and Carlito just keeps getting better.
Good match, good psychology and a good finish earns this ***

Next up we have our MOTN as Edge and Randy Orton took on DX with the fans choosing the ref. the choices were Eric Bischoff, Vince McMahon and Coach. Despite the perplexing idea of the fans having to choose a heel to be the ref the match itself was excellent stuff. Tagging with Edge was an excellent thing for Orton as it meant he kept his chin locks to a minimum and concentrated more on beating the hell out of Shawn Michaels which is great for any heel. This match was also a very important one for Edge as he was carrying it throughout and did a fantastic job. Edge has been the only guy this autumn who’s had consistently good matches with anyone he’s put in there with and he continued the run of form here. A lot of credit would have to got to Michaels too as he did a world class job of playing face in peril.
Overall the match was great despite the screwiness at the end and did a good job of advancing the storyline. I’m going to give it ***1/2 because I was really digging it throughout.

Lita Vs Mickey James was boring so I fast forwarded through it on account of the fact that I don’t think you’ll lose sleep over me not reviewing it.

Sprit Squad Vs Flair and a legend partner was just awful. Fans could choose from SGT Slaughter, Dusty Rhodes and Roddy Piper. And boy I would like to apologise to Dusty for any fat jokes I’ve made about him recently because Piper clearly trumped him sporting a bear gut that made me fear he would go into labour during the hot tag segment. Piper won the vote and proceeded to stink up the ring with an equally as sluggish and unmotivated Flair. This match was so bad that it was actually happy when Flair and Piper won because it meant I wouldn’t have to watch it anymore.
I’m not going to rate it because honestly I can’t think of any part of it that deserved anything close to a star.

King Booker Vs John Cena Vs Big Show was just as bad. It was so bad that at times I actually forgot I was atching it and drifted off into my own little dream world. You may notice that this was the same as last months King booker main event offering. Seriously, the guy FUCKING SUCKS. I don’t care how many awesome promos or skits he does he just plain sucks. He’s the worst World Champion in the past 10 years. He has the potential to be better than this but he’s just too lazy to give a shit anymore and as a result, f*ck him. If he can’t be motivated when he has all that he has then screw him. He’s married to a good looking woman, is the most over he’s ever been, has a great gimmick, rarely jobs and has one of the most prestigious belts in wrestling. And here he is stinking up the ring. Big Show is injured and falling apart physically so I’ll be slightly more lenient. he can still have a good match and I respect him for going out there in his injured state. John Cena may not be great but at least he has fire and seems to be willing to improve. Booker just sucks. So of course he got to win this shite pit of a match. I could have done something more productive, like put the peel back on an orange or something, than watch this terrible match. I only kept watching because I wanted to review it and I might miss something. I didn’t.
Again I won’t rate this one more out of spite than anything else.

The Inside Pulse
Overall this show was really bad. Despite the fact that there was some good stuff here the main matches were such a dissapointment, aside from the awesome Edge/Orton Vs DX match, that i felt ripped off as a fan for actually wanting to see this show and getting my hopes up. Avoid this i’s not worth sitting through teh crap for the good stuff
