Make Movement: Lita Leaves (Bye!) and Painful Mistakes

Columns

I think I’m one of the few who, despite hating the Cryme Time gimmick, understood why Lita got the send off that she received during Survivor Series. Everyone’s crying foul and how she deserved better but let’s dissect this. Yes, Lita did contribute and helped pave the way for women’s wrestling today. Lita brought hot spots, a Luchador type style to the WWE’s Women Division. However, between her pairing with the Hardy Boyz and getting paired with Edge, she seemed to lose her passion for the business. She has in the last few years been one of the most careless wrestlers in the ring in regards to protecting and looking after her opponent in the ring. This could be for many reasons and I’m sure it has a lot to do with the fact that her private life became public knowledge and used in WWE storylines for the rest of her career. With both her and Edge doing a definite wrong in the business, and currently playing a heel, I didn’t feel her send off was anything surprising. Lita was not going to get a mini-Trish Stratus farewell tour, or get a farewell in her hometown of now, Atlanta. There was not going to be a standing ovation for her work over the years, more so anything, Lita has made her mark in the business as three things: 1)her great feuds with Trish Stratus (the last match she seemed to care about), 2)cheating on Matt Hardy with Edge, which was the best thing that could have happened to Edge’s career, and 3) Edge’s slutty girlfriend who had to exploit her sexuality in front of the world every week, long after their real life affair had ended. This is definitely the best thing to happen for all involved. Amy can have passion for her own personal projects, including her band and local acting away from the business. I do wish her the best because everyone deserves to have a life out of the business, no matter the mistakes they have made.

Now, what’s left holding the Women’s Division is current WWE Women’s Champion, (my) Mickie James and Victoria. I’m very glad they didn’t bury Victoria for yet another missed opportunity and I’m eager to see this feud if done properly. However, and I like Victoria, she has quite a track record herself for taking out other divas onto the injured list. I can’t fully blame Victoria though, it’s usually her intensity that has her pulling moves a lot more stiffer than most. The girls who have the guts (or foolishness) to go in the ring without proper, longevity training, need to be ready to take more than a pillow pushover type match. I hope the other girls are learning because I want the Women’s Division to survive, I know Mickie and Victoria can do a great job holding their own. May the battle of the two crazy bitches begins.

RAW in general was a mixed bag, it left a lot to be deserved following a pretty good Survivor Series. Watching Ric Flair in the beginning of the show, I wondered if he was planning to retire based on his body language. I also felt like many have expressed that the “Ric Flair special moment” with DX would have meant more if it happened last night and everytime Jim Ross (or any commentator for that matter) has to tell the viewer it’s a “special moment,” so often, then the “special moment” automatically loses it’s flavor. If anything, putting Ric Flair on at the beginning of the show (to set up the rest of the night obviously), was a reminder how hideous the angle he was involved with during Survivor Series. WWE pulled a TNA by having Simmons and Anderson thrown out so early on, and it was a complete misuse of “Damn!” and Double A. The fact that DX wouldn’t somehow get word at “their party” to make the save for the bloody, looked like he crawled out of a cage match, Ric Flair, is unrealistic. Apparently Flair has made no other impact on any other talent in the WWE roster to “make the save,” not even John Cena. I also guess we need to get used to the sound of “WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Umaga.”

You know things are bad when Jerry Lawler and Chris Masters are in feud together and Carlito has to once again go after Chris Masters. It’s horrible the holding pattern Carlito has been in the last few months. He could truly be the next Rock type star if they would ever let him truly have the ball. Instead, he’s built as the diva rescuer, Razor Ramon throwback. Cryme Time do a fantasy type reenactment of the Michael Richards embarrassment, where they confront and mug him. I don’t really understand why WWE decided to go there, maybe that’s Vince McMahon’s warped view of being a responsible citizen who cares about civil rights? Maybe I have to wait til the Tribute to the Troops for the WWE to feel like a real good show consistently again.

Always remember, for things to change, you have to make movement. Thanks for reading, have a happy Thanksgiving and for all the feedback, feel free to contact me anytime at Bam@4sternstaging.com.
